EDD unemployment payment schedule: weekly or biweekly on Money Network card?
I'm really confused about when I'll actually receive my unemployment payments on the Money Network card. Some people told me it's weekly, but others are saying it's every two weeks? I certified for benefits for the first time yesterday and I'm trying to budget properly. Can someone clarify if EDD loads payments weekly or biweekly once you're approved? And do they load it immediately after certification or is there a processing delay? Thanks!

EDD pays biweekly in California, not weekly. You certify for two weeks at a time, and payments are loaded onto your Money Network card after the certification is processed. Usually takes 24-48 hours after certification if there aren't any issues with your claim. So if you certified yesterday, you should see your payment tomorrow or the day after at the latest.

•Thanks for clarifying! I was getting so confused because my neighbor said she got weekly payments. I'll check tomorrow then. Do you know what time of day they usually process the payments?

THE SYSTEM IS COMPLETE GARBAGE!!! I certified every 2 weeks like clockwork for 6 months and payments would show up randomly. Sometimes 1 day after certifying, sometimes 3-4 days after. ZERO CONSISTENCY!!! One time they put me on pending for NO REASON and I couldn't get anyone on the phone for 3 WEEKS!!!

•FINALLY got through after calling 47 TIMES in one day. Started at 8:01AM and kept redialing until 1:30PM when I finally got in the queue. Then waited ANOTHER 2 hours on hold!!! Complete joke of a system.

•This is correct. California EDD specifically pays biweekly (every two weeks), but some other states do have weekly payment schedules. The confusion often comes from people in different states sharing information online. In California, you certify for two weeks at a time, and payments are processed for both weeks together, typically within 24-48 hours after certification if there are no pending issues with your claim.

When I was on unemployment last year I certified every two weeks but they would sometimes split the payment so I'd get money for the first week before the second week which made it seem like weekly payments. Might be what's causing the confusion?

•Oh that's interesting! That might explain why my neighbor thought she was getting weekly payments. Did you ever have your payments delayed?

•Yeah, sometimes there were delays. It wasn't super consistent. You get used to the system eventually, but it can be frustrating at first for sure.

If you need to contact EDD about payment issues (which trust me, eventually you will), I highly recommend using Claimyr.com. I wasted days trying to get through on my own but their service connected me to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Completely worth it when you're facing payment delays and need answers right away.

•Yes, it actually works. I was skeptical at first but I was desperate after trying for three days straight to reach someone. The service put me in the callback queue and I spoke with a rep who fixed my pending payment issue the same day.

To fully answer your question: 1. In California, EDD pays biweekly (every two weeks) 2. You certify for two weeks at a time 3. Payments typically process within 24-48 hours after certification if there are no issues 4. Funds are loaded to your Money Network card or sent via direct deposit depending on your preference 5. The first payment sometimes takes a bit longer (3-5 days) as they're setting up your payment method 6. You can log into UI Online to check payment status under "Payment Activity" 7. If your payment status says "Paid" but you don't see it on your card yet, allow 24 hours for it to transfer As for timing, there's no specific time of day when payments post. The system processes them in batches throughout the day.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'll check the payment activity section. Is there a way to set up notifications when payments are processed?

•Yes! Log into UI Online, go to Profile, then Contact Information. You can set up email and/or text notifications for payment updates. The Money Network app also has its own notification system for when funds are deposited to your card.

One important thing no one has mentioned: Make sure you complete your certification fully and accurately. If you make mistakes or if the system flags any of your answers, your payment can get stuck in "pending" status. Double-check all your work search activities are properly documented if required for your claim type.

•Thanks for the tip! I did list my work search activities carefully. Is there any way to check if my certification had issues, or will it just show as pending?

Last year I had a NIGHTMARE scenario where my payments randomly changed from biweekly to these weird split payments where I'd get different amounts on different days. Called EDD and the rep had NO IDEA why it was happening. System is completely broken and nobody there knows how to fix anything!!! When you DO get paid, immediately transfer the money out of that card to your bank account!
