EDD payment shows 'paid' but not 'issued' in payment history - debit card timing question
So I certified for my weeks on Sunday night, and when I checked my UI Online account yesterday it showed 'paid' for those weeks. Great! But when I look at the payment history, there's no 'issued' payment showing up yet. Is this normal? I'm a first-time claimant so I'm still waiting for my EDD debit card to arrive in the mail. The customer service rep told me it would take 7-10 days after payment is issued, but now I'm not sure if the payment has actually been issued if it's not showing up in the payment history. Should I be concerned that something's wrong with my claim? And is that 7-10 day timeframe for the card still accurate? The whole waiting game is making me super anxious since rent is coming up.

This is totally normal. There's a delay between when your certification shows as 'paid' and when it actually appears as 'issued' in the payment history. It usually takes 24-48 hours for the payment to process and show up as issued. Since you're a first-time claimant waiting for your card, yes, the 7-10 business days timeframe is still accurate from when the payment is issued (not from when it shows as 'paid'). The Bank of America/Money Network system that handles the debit cards is separate from EDD's certification system.

•Thank you! That's a huge relief. Do you know if I can track when the card is mailed out? Or do I just have to wait and hope it shows up?

•That's good to hear! Was the card balance updated right away once you got it? Or was there another waiting period?

Don't panic yet! The EDD system is NOTORIOUSLY slow to update the payment history. Your money is likely already being processed even though the status hasn't changed. The worst part of this whole process is the waiting and lack of transparency. I remember when I first filed last year, I checked my account LITERALLY every hour like some kind of crazy person. Just a waste of energy. BUT if you don't see the 'issued' status change by Friday, that's when you might need to start calling to check what's up. The 7-10 day timeline for the card is pretty accurate though - mine came on day 8.

If you're worried and want to check on your payment status, good luck getting through to EDD. I spent TWO WEEKS trying to reach someone after my payment got stuck in a similar situation. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - saved me hours of redial hell. Once I got through, the rep was able to confirm my payment was processing normally despite not showing as 'issued' yet.

•Thanks for the tip. I'll wait a couple more days as others suggested, but if nothing changes I might try that service. The anxiety of not knowing what's happening is the worst part!

The EDD system is BROKEN by design! I had the same issue but it took THREE WEEKS to get my card because they kept sending it to my old address despite me updating my info online. Then they blamed ME for not calling them when their own website says not to call about card issues!!! Absolutely ridiculous. The whole thing needs to be rebuilt from scratch. One thing you should do right now - double check your address is 100% correct in both your EDD account AND with Bank of America/Money Network. Even a tiny mistake can cause huge delays.

•Oh no, that sounds terrible! I'll double check my address is correct in both places.

My husband has been on unemployment since February and his first payment took 3 days to go from paid to issued, but now they happen same day usually. The card took exactly 9 business days to arrive. You can actually call Bank of America/Money Network directly to check if your card has been mailed yet - their customer service is MUCH better than EDD's. Their number should be in your EDD paperwork.

•That's super helpful! I didn't realize I could call Bank of America directly to check on the card status. I'll try that tomorrow.

Just to follow up on what others have said - once your payment does show as 'issued' in your payment history, you can also register for the Money Network mobile app or website before your physical card arrives. This lets you see when funds are deposited, though you obviously can't use the funds until you have the actual card. Some people find this reduces anxiety because at least you can see the money is there waiting for you.

•Great tip! I'll download the app now so I'm ready to set it up as soon as the payment is issued. And thank you everyone for the reassurance - I feel much better knowing this delay is normal. Will update if/when I get my card!

Hey there! I'm dealing with almost the exact same situation right now - certified on Sunday, shows "paid" but still waiting for it to update to "issued." Reading through all these responses has been super helpful and reassuring! I'm also a first-time claimant waiting for my card, so the uncertainty is definitely nerve-wracking. It's good to know that the 24-48 hour delay between "paid" and "issued" is totally normal. I'm going to try calling Bank of America directly like Javier suggested to check on my card status - that seems like a much better option than trying to get through to EDD. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•@Oliver Schulz Glad this thread helped you too! It s'so stressful being in the same boat, but at least we know we re'not alone. The Bank of America tip seems like a game-changer - I had no idea we could contact them directly. Definitely going to try that tomorrow morning. Keep me posted on how it goes for you! Maybe we can compare timelines since we re'both going through this at the same time.

I went through this exact same thing about 6 months ago! The delay between "paid" and "issued" had me panicking too, especially as a first-time claimant. Mine took about 36 hours to update to "issued" status, and then the card arrived exactly 7 business days later. One thing that really helped my anxiety was setting up text notifications through the EDD website - you'll get alerts when your payment status changes. Also, once you do get your card, make sure to activate it right away and set up your PIN. The funds should be available immediately once activated. Hang in there - the waiting is definitely the hardest part, but it sounds like everything is processing normally for you!

•@Amina Toure Thank you so much for sharing your timeline! It s'really helpful to hear from someone who went through this recently. I didn t'know about the text notification option - I m'definitely going to set that up right now. It would be such a relief to get an alert when the status changes instead of obsessively checking the website every few hours. And good tip about activating the card immediately - I ll'make sure to do that as soon as it arrives. Your experience gives me a lot of hope that mine will follow a similar timeline. Really appreciate you taking the time to share the details!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Certified Sunday night, shows "paid" but still waiting for "issued" status. As a newcomer to unemployment, this whole process is so confusing and stressful. Reading everyone's experiences here has been incredibly reassuring though - sounds like the 24-48 hour delay is completely normal and I just need to be patient. I'm definitely going to try calling Bank of America directly to check on my card status like several people suggested. It's such a relief to know I'm not the only one dealing with this anxiety! The lack of real-time updates from EDD makes everything feel so uncertain. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines and tips - this community is a lifesaver for first-time claimants like me who have no idea what to expect.

It s'amazing how many of us are going through the exact same situation right now - there s'definitely comfort in knowing we re'not alone in this confusing process. I was literally refreshing my EDD account every hour yesterday until I read everyone s'responses here. The Bank of America tip seems like such a smart move - I had no idea we could bypass EDD entirely for card status updates. If you do call them, please let us know how it goes! I m'planning to call tomorrow morning too. Fingers crossed both our payments update to issued "status" soon and our cards arrive within that 7-10 day window everyone mentioned. This waiting game is brutal but at least we have this community to help us through it!
