EDD payment showing 'paid' but Direct Deposit to Cash App not received - how long to wait?

Finally got some good news when my EDD claim status changed from pending to paid yesterday! I set up direct deposit to my Cash App account when I first filed about 3 weeks ago. Now I'm wondering how long it typically takes for the money to actually hit my Cash App after the status changes to paid? It's been about 24 hours and nothing's shown up yet. Is there something else I need to do, or should I just keep waiting? This is my first time using unemployment and choosing direct deposit instead of the debit card. Anyone have experience with direct deposit to Cash App specifically? Starting to get a little anxious since rent is due soon.

direct deposit usually takes 1-3 business days after it says paid. weekends dont count as business days tho. cash app should be the same as a regular bank but i used my credit union account not cash app

Thanks! Good to know about the business days thing. I'll try to be patient for another day or two then.

Direct deposit to traditional banks typically takes 1-2 business days after the claim shows 'paid' status. However, with Cash App and similar financial technology services, there can sometimes be additional processing time. A few important points: 1. EDD sends the payment in the next business day batch after status changes to 'paid' 2. ACH transfers typically take 1-3 business days to process through the banking system 3. Cash App specifically may have additional holding periods for government deposits If you don't see the deposit by the third business day after the 'paid' status appeared, I would recommend contacting both EDD and Cash App to verify there are no issues with your account information. Sometimes there can be formatting issues with the account or routing numbers that cause delays.

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll definitely wait the full 3 business days before panicking. Do you know if there's a way to double-check that my Cash App account/routing numbers were entered correctly in the EDD system?

NOBODY SHOULD USE CASH APP FOR EDD!!! My cousin tried this and had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS for weeks!!! The EDD system is set up for traditional banks not these app things. Get a real bank account or just use the EDD Money Network card they give you its 100X EASIER!!!!

That's not entirely accurate. I've been using Cash App for my EDD payments for months without any issues. The key is making sure your account is verified and that you've correctly entered the routing and account numbers. Cash App is a legitimate financial service with FDIC insurance through their partner banks.

Has anyone else noticed that the direct deposit takes WAY longer now than it did back in 2023? I swear it used to go through like overnight sometimes and now it's consistently taking 2-3 days minimum. My last payment said 'paid' on Tuesday morning and didn't hit my account until Friday afternoon. So frustrating when bills are due!

OMG yes! I thought it was just me! It's definitely slower now for some reason. My theory is they're processing more claims or they cut staff or something.

If you're still waiting after 3-4 business days, you might want to try reaching EDD directly to verify your banking information was entered correctly. Getting through to EDD can be challenging though. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) when I had a similar issue with my direct deposit not showing up. They got me connected to an EDD representative who confirmed there was a typo in my account number which was causing the delay. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km But definitely give it the full 3 business days first, as many have mentioned. Cash App should work fine as long as all the information was entered correctly.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely check out that service if I can't get through on my own after waiting a few days. I'm hoping it comes through tomorrow since today would be business day 2.

by the way does anyone know if cash app reports to the irs??? my friend said edd payments might be taxed differently if they go through cash app instead of a normal bank?????

EDD income is taxable regardless of which financial institution receives your direct deposit. The payment method doesn't affect taxation - Cash App, traditional banks, or the Money Network card all work the same way for tax purposes. EDD will send you a 1099-G form in January showing your total benefits for the tax year, which you'll need to report on your tax return. Cash App isn't changing how your unemployment benefits are taxed.

UPDATE: The money just hit my Cash App account this morning! So that was exactly 3 business days after the status changed to paid. Thanks everyone for the help and advice. For anyone else using Cash App for EDD direct deposit, it does work, just be patient!
