CONNECT direct deposit to Cash App - is it reliable for DEO payments?
Hey everyone! I'm thinking about switching my unemployment direct deposit from my regular bank to my Cash App because my bank has been charging me ridiculous fees. Has anyone here used Cash App to receive their DEO benefits? I'm wondering how long the deposit typically takes to show up after claiming weeks. My regular bank usually takes 2-3 business days after I claim, but I heard Cash App might be faster? I'm a little nervous about changing my payment method in CONNECT since I really can't afford any delays right now. Just want to know if it's reliable and if there are any issues I should be aware of before making the switch. Thanks!

i use cash app and it WORKS but its not faster than reglar banks. takes bout the same time, 2-3 days after DEO processes ur weeks. make sure u enter the routing/acct # EXACTLY right in CONNECT or itll reject it. double check everything!!

•Thanks for the info! Did you have to verify anything special with Cash App before you could receive government deposits? I've only used it for friend payments before.

I would strongly advise against using Cash App for unemployment benefits. While it technically works, there are several drawbacks to consider: 1. Cash App has limited customer service if something goes wrong with your payment 2. There's no FDIC insurance protection like traditional banks offer 3. If your account gets locked or flagged, accessing your funds can be difficult 4. Some users have reported delays specifically with government deposits If bank fees are your concern, I'd recommend looking into credit unions or online banks like Capital One or Ally that offer fee-free checking accounts. They're more secure for receiving government benefits and have better support systems if issues arise.

•Totally agree! My cousin used Cash App for her benefits last year and when there was a problem, she couldn't get anyone on the phone to help. Took almost 3 weeks to sort out. NOT worth the stress when you're already dealing with unemployment!

I've been using Cash App for my DEO payments since December and honestly it's been fine. The money usually shows up around 48hrs after I claim my weeks, which seems pretty standard. The direct deposit works the same as any bank - you just need to make sure you use the correct routing and account numbers from your Cash App account. One thing to know is that sometimes the first deposit can take a little longer (mine took 4 days the first time), but after that it's been consistent. I like that I can instantly transfer to my regular bank if needed (for a small fee) or use the Cash Card for purchases. Just make double sure your account details are entered correctly in CONNECT because fixing payment issues with DEO is a NIGHTMARE.

•This is good advice. One additional thing to be aware of - if you ever need to call DEO about payment issues, they sometimes give Cash App users a harder time because it's not a traditional bank. I had to speak with three different agents when I had a delayed payment before finding someone who understood how Cash App works. If you're having trouble getting through to a DEO agent (which is common), I've had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a system that gets you connected to a live DEO agent without the endless busy signals. Saved me hours of frustration when I had payment issues. Their video shows how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj

•Your payment delay likely has nothing to do with your bank choice - if it's showing as pending in CONNECT, that means DEO hasn't released the payment yet. This usually happens when there's an adjudication issue or identity verification that needs to be resolved. You should check your CONNECT account for any action items or call DEO directly to ask about the hold-up.

OH MY GOD DON'T DO IT!!!! I tried Cash App last year and my payment got STUCK somewhere between DEO and Cash App for TWO WEEKS!!! Neither one would take responsibility and I was on the phone for HOURS trying to figure it out. Cash App kept saying it was DEO's problem and DEO said once they send it, it's not their problem anymore. I finally had to go back into CONNECT and change to regular bank direct deposit. NEVER AGAIN.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! After reading your experiences, I think I'm going to look into a fee-free online bank instead of Cash App. The potential headaches just don't seem worth it, especially since it sounds like the deposit timing is about the same anyway. I really appreciate all the advice!

•That's a wise choice. If you're looking for recommendations, Chime and Varo are popular alternatives to traditional banks with no monthly fees and they work seamlessly with DEO direct deposits. Many of them also offer early direct deposit features that might get your unemployment payments a day earlier than traditional banks.

I've been using Cash App for my DEO payments for about 4 months now and it's been mostly reliable. The timing is pretty consistent - usually shows up within 2-3 business days after claiming, same as most banks. One tip: make sure you screenshot your routing and account numbers from the Cash App banking section before entering them in CONNECT. I've seen people make typos and then have to wait weeks to fix payment issues with DEO. The main downside is customer service if something goes wrong, but honestly DEO's customer service isn't great either so it's kind of a wash. If you're really worried about fees, I'd also suggest looking into Chime or other online banks that don't charge monthly fees but have better support than Cash App.

•That's really helpful advice about screenshotting the routing and account numbers! I didn't think about that but it makes total sense - one wrong digit and you're stuck waiting forever to fix it with DEO. Thanks for sharing your experience, it's reassuring to hear from someone who's been using it successfully for several months.

I switched to Cash App for my DEO payments about 2 months ago after my bank started charging me $12/month maintenance fees. Overall it's been working fine - deposits come through in 2-3 days just like everyone else is saying. A few things I learned: - Make sure your Cash App account is fully verified before switching (ID, SSN, etc.) - The routing number is always 073923033 but your account number is unique to you - First payment took 4 days but every one after has been exactly 2 business days - You can set up notifications so you know immediately when it hits The biggest downside is definitely the customer service issue others mentioned. When I had a question about a deposit, it took forever to get help. But honestly, for saving $144/year in bank fees, it's been worth it for me. Just triple-check those account numbers when you enter them in CONNECT!

•This is really detailed info, thanks! I'm curious - when you say "fully verified," did you need to upload documents or was it just the basic info? I've had my Cash App for a while but only used it for small payments between friends, so I'm not sure if there's additional verification needed for larger government deposits.

•@Morgan Washington For the full verification, I had to upload a photo of my driver s'license and provide my SSN. Cash App also asks for your full legal name and address. The process was pretty quick - took about 24 hours to get approved. I think you need this level of verification to receive direct deposits over a certain amount I (believe it s'$1000/week .)Better to do it before you switch your DEO payments over so there s'no delays!
