PA UC direct deposit to CashApp card - payment stuck on 'total payment' status

Hi everyone, I'm having an issue with my PA unemployment payments. I set up my direct deposit to go to my CashApp card about 3 weeks ago (switched from the Money Network card because of all the fees), but I still haven't received anything. When I check my claim status online, the payment type says "total payment" but no money has hit my CashApp card. Has anyone else used CashApp for their UC payments? Is there something special I need to do? My weekly claims are all showing as accepted, so I don't understand the holdup. Getting desperate as rent is coming due soon!

Really?? They didn't mention anything about holds when I set it up. Did you eventually get your money or did you have to call someone?

I've been using CashApp for my PA UC payments for about 6 months now. The first payment can take longer to process - up to 5-7 business days. After that initial payment, mine typically arrive 2 days after the payment date showing in the system. One thing to check: make sure you entered your routing and account numbers exactly as they appear in your CashApp banking details. Even one digit off will cause the payment to be rejected and returned to UC, which causes significant delays.

Thank you! I double-checked my routing and account numbers in the UC portal and they match what's in my CashApp. Maybe it is just the first payment delay. Did you notice if the payment status said "total payment" for a while before it actually arrived?

Yes, "total payment" status just means the payment has been processed on PA UC's end, but it doesn't mean the money has actually been transferred to your account yet. The banking system can take additional days to complete the transfer, especially for the first payment to a new account. If it's been more than 7 business days, you should definitely contact PA UC.

This happened to me too but it was with chime not cashapp. took FOREVER to get my first payment it was like 9 days!!! But after that it was fine came in 2 days. The uc website is so confusing bc it says payment issued but then nothing shows up for days

I had similar issues with direct deposit to my CashApp card last year. The "total payment" status means PA UC processed the payment on their end, but there's still processing time for the banks involved. For CashApp specifically, they often hold unemployment deposits for "verification" - this is something they don't advertise but it's in their terms of service. After trying for weeks to get through to both PA UC and CashApp customer service with no luck, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to a PA UC agent in about 30 minutes. There's a demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent confirmed my payment was sent but explained that some financial institutions like CashApp have longer hold times for government payments. After that conversation, I switched to direct deposit to my regular bank account and haven't had issues since.

is claimyr legit? seems sketchy to pay to talk to unemployment

It's definitely legit - they don't handle your claim or anything, they just help you skip the phone queue. I was desperate after two weeks of constant busy signals. Since PA UC doesn't offer callbacks like some states do, it was worth it for me to finally speak to someone.

I HATE THE UC SYSTEM!!!! Ive been having payment problems for MONTHS and each time i call its busy busy busy. They make it IMPOSSIBLE to talk to a real person when theres issues. "total payment" status has shown on my account for over a week before money actually hit my account before. The system is designed to make you give up i swear

It's so frustrating! I'm trying to remain calm but it's hard when bills are due. Did you have to call to fix the problem or did it eventually resolve itself?

Mine eventually went through but took like 9 days total. BUT i had a friend who had to call because turns out her payment was getting sent back due to "verification issues" with her bank account number. UC never notified her, she only found out by finally reaching someone on the phone.

There are a few things to understand about the PA UC payment process: 1. "Total payment" status means PA UC has released the funds, but it doesn't mean your bank has received or processed them yet. 2. First-time direct deposits to a new account typically take 5-7 business days (not calendar days) for processing. 3. Some financial services like CashApp, Chime, and other online banking platforms have their own processing timelines for government payments, which can add 1-3 additional business days. 4. If it's been more than 10 business days since your payment status changed to "total payment," you should contact PA UC directly as there may be an issue with your banking information. In my experience helping people with UC claims, alternative financial services like CashApp often have longer processing times for government deposits compared to traditional banks. This isn't unique to PA - it's common across unemployment systems nationwide.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! It's been 8 business days now, so I'll give it a couple more days before panicking. I might look into switching to my regular bank account for future payments if CashApp continues to be slow.

I didn't use Cashapp but I had my UC payments going to my Venmo debit card last year. Same thing happened - said "total payment" but nothing showed up. I called PA UC and they said the payment was returned because Venmo rejected it. Had to switch to a regular bank. Might be same issue with Cashapp?

That's concerning! Did PA UC automatically resend the payment or did you have to request it again? I'm worried about having to start the whole process over.

they had to reissue it after i gave them new bank info. took about 2 weeks total to get the money :

Just checking back - has your payment arrived yet? If not, I would definitely try to contact PA UC directly. While "total payment" status usually means things are processing normally, there's always the possibility of a technical issue that needs to be addressed, especially with non-traditional banking options like CashApp.

It finally came through this morning! Took 9 business days total. Thanks everyone for your help - I'm going to switch to my regular bank account for future payments to avoid this stress next time.

Glad to hear your payment finally came through! For anyone else dealing with this issue, I'd recommend setting up direct deposit with a traditional bank account from the start. I've been using my local credit union for PA UC payments and they consistently arrive within 2-3 business days after the "total payment" status shows up. CashApp and similar services are convenient for everyday use, but they often have additional security holds and verification processes for government payments that can cause these delays.

This is really helpful advice! I'm new to the PA UC system and was considering using my CashApp card for convenience, but after reading through this whole thread I think I'll stick with my regular bank account. It sounds like the traditional banks are much more reliable for government payments. Thanks for sharing your experience with the credit union - that 2-3 day timeline sounds way better than the 9+ days people are experiencing with CashApp.

As someone who works in banking, I can confirm what others have said about CashApp and similar fintech services having longer processing times for government deposits. They often use intermediary banks to process ACH transfers, which adds extra steps and potential delays. Traditional banks have direct relationships with the Federal Reserve for ACH processing, which is why they're typically faster. For anyone still waiting on payments, you can also check your CashApp activity to see if there's a pending deposit - sometimes it shows up there before it hits your available balance. If you're in a tight spot financially, many local food banks and assistance programs don't require you to wait for income verification, so don't hesitate to reach out for help while waiting for your payment to clear.

Thank you for the banking industry perspective! That explanation about intermediary banks vs direct Federal Reserve relationships makes so much sense. I had no idea CashApp used extra steps for ACH processing - that definitely explains why people are seeing these delays with government payments specifically. The tip about checking the CashApp activity for pending deposits is really helpful too. And you're absolutely right about not hesitating to reach out for assistance while waiting - financial stress is real and there's no shame in getting help when you need it.

For anyone still dealing with CashApp delays, I'd suggest calling CashApp customer service directly too (not just PA UC). I had a similar issue last year where my first unemployment deposit was held for "verification" for almost 2 weeks. When I finally got through to CashApp support, they told me that government payments over a certain amount automatically trigger additional review for new accounts or accounts that haven't received government deposits before. They were able to expedite the verification process once I explained the situation. The number is on the back of your card, and while the wait times can be long, it's worth calling both CashApp and PA UC to make sure there isn't a hold on their end that's causing the delay.

This is really valuable information! I didn't realize that CashApp had automatic verification holds for government payments over certain amounts. That explains why some people are experiencing much longer delays than others - it probably depends on their payment amounts and account history. Calling CashApp directly is definitely smart advice since they can at least tell you if there's a hold on their end. It's frustrating that they don't proactively notify users about these verification processes, especially when people are depending on these funds for essential expenses. Thanks for sharing the tip about the customer service number being on the back of the card too!

This whole thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm currently dealing with a similar situation where my PA UC payment has been stuck on "total payment" status for 6 days now with my CashApp card. Reading everyone's experiences, it sounds like I just need to be patient since it's my first payment to this account. I'm definitely going to call both PA UC and CashApp if it doesn't arrive by the 10 business day mark like others suggested. For future payments, I think I'll switch to my regular bank account to avoid this stress - the 2-3 day timeline with traditional banks sounds much more reliable than waiting over a week with CashApp. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and advice, especially the banking industry insights about intermediary processing. It really helps to know this is a common issue and not something wrong with my specific claim!

You're definitely on the right track! I'm new to this community but have been reading through everyone's experiences and it's really reassuring to see how helpful people are here. The 10 business day rule seems to be the magic number based on what everyone's shared. I'm also considering switching from my online banking app to a traditional bank for UC payments after seeing all these delays people are having. It's frustrating that these fintech companies don't clearly explain their government payment policies upfront - would save everyone a lot of stress! Hope your payment comes through soon and thanks for summarizing everything so well for others who might be dealing with the same issue.

I went through this exact same situation about 4 months ago when I switched from the ReliaCard to CashApp for my PA UC payments. The first payment took 11 business days to show up! I was panicking because like you, rent was due and I couldn't get through to anyone on the phone. What I learned is that CashApp has a "first government deposit" verification process that they don't really advertise - they basically hold the funds while they verify it's legitimate. After that first payment though, all my subsequent payments have arrived within 2-3 days. If you're at 8-9 business days now, I'd give it until day 12-13 before really worrying. But honestly, after going through that stress, I switched back to direct deposit with my regular bank and haven't had any issues since. The peace of mind is worth it when you're already dealing with unemployment stress!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation. The 11 business days is actually longer than what most others have reported, so that gives me hope that even if mine takes a bit longer, it will eventually come through. I had no idea about CashApp's "first government deposit" verification process - it's so frustrating that they don't communicate this clearly to users, especially when people are depending on these funds for essential expenses like rent. Your point about the peace of mind with regular banks really resonates with me. The convenience of CashApp isn't worth the stress and uncertainty when you're already dealing with unemployment. I think I'll definitely be switching to my traditional bank account for future payments once this first one clears. Thanks again for the detailed timeline and advice!
