EDD not releasing pending certifications after interview - does 14-day rule apply?
I'm stressing out over my EDD situation right now. I have TWO certifications stuck in pending status after certifying. I already completed my eligibility interview last week regarding some issues with my claim (I accidentally reported my hours wrong when I worked part-time for a few days). The interviewer seemed understanding but I haven't received any official determination letter yet. Someone at work told me that if EDD doesn't make a decision within 14 days after an interview, they're supposed to conditionally release at least one of my pending payments while they continue investigating. Is this actually true or am I getting my hopes up for nothing? I'm falling behind on bills and getting really worried. Has anyone had experience with this 14-day conditional payment release thing?

The 14-day conditional payment policy does exist, but it's not automatic and doesn't apply in all situations. After an eligibility interview, EDD is supposed to make a determination within 14 days. If they don't, you can sometimes get conditional payments while they continue investigating, but only if your case meets certain criteria. It usually doesn't apply if there are potential overpayment issues or if they suspect willful misrepresentation (even if it was just an honest mistake).\n\nYour best bet is to call EDD directly to check on the status of your determination and ask specifically about conditional payments. Be prepared to explain that it's been over 14 days since your interview with no determination.

Thank you for explaining! The interviewer didn't mention anything about willful misrepresentation - I really did just make an honest mistake on my timesheet. The problem is I can't get through to anyone on the phone. I've been calling the main number every day this week and either get disconnected or told they're at maximum capacity. Is there another number I should try?

3 weeks?? That's so stressful. Did you have to keep certifying during that time? I'm worried if I certify again this Sunday it'll just be another pending payment added to the pile.

This is so true! The same thing happened to my sister last month. She waited for what felt like forever after her interview.

If you're having trouble reaching EDD on the phone (which is incredibly common), I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to an EDD representative without spending hours redialing. I was in a similar situation with pending certifications after an interview and couldn't get through for days. Used their service and got connected to an agent who was able to check my claim status and explain the holdup. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km\n\nOnce you do get through to someone, specifically ask about conditional payments and mention that it's been over 14 days since your eligibility interview with no determination. Have your interview date ready for reference.

Thank you for this suggestion! I hadn't heard of Claimyr before. I'll check out the website and video. At this point I'd try anything to get this resolved - the stress is really getting to me.

Just to clarify something important - make sure you continue certifying for benefits every two weeks, even while your previous certifications are pending. If your claim is eventually approved, you'll only get paid for weeks you properly certified for. Missing certifications creates even more complications that can delay your payments further.

Yes, I've been making sure to certify on time! I was just worried that adding more pending certifications would somehow complicate things, but I'll definitely keep certifying every two weeks no matter what.

i had 3 pending certifications and then suddenly they all paid out at once!! no warning just woke up and money was on my card lol. sometimes their system is just slow. maybe check ur ui online account for any notifications or messages they might have sent about ur interview?

This happened to me too! I think sometimes their system batches payments. I was pending for almost a month and then boom - three payments at once. Was a huge relief since I was about to miss a car payment.

I've been checking my UI Online account multiple times a day and there's nothing new - no messages, no determination letter, nothing about the interview results. Just the pending certifications staring back at me. I hope they suddenly process everything like what happened to you both!

The conditional payment after 14 days isn't guaranteed, but it is part of their policies. In my experience, you need to specifically request it though - they won't automatically do it. When I had a similar situation last year, I had to call and explicitly ask the representative to check if I qualified for conditional payments while my eligibility issue was being resolved.\n\nThe key is getting through to someone who knows what you're talking about. Some representatives aren't familiar with all the policies. If you get someone who seems confused by your question, politely thank them and try calling again to speak with someone else.\n\nAlso, check your UI Online inbox and make sure you haven't missed any requests for additional information. Sometimes they need documents or clarification before they can move forward with your case.

I'll definitely ask specifically about conditional payments when I finally get through to someone. I've been checking my UI Online inbox multiple times daily and there's nothing there requesting additional info. The interview seemed to go well, so I'm confused about why it's taking so long to get a determination. I'll keep trying to call and hopefully get through to someone knowledgeable.

wait does edd mean unemployment or disability?? i always get them confused lol

EDD (Employment Development Department) handles both unemployment insurance (UI) and state disability insurance (SDI) in California, but they're different programs. This discussion is about unemployment benefits specifically - the ones you claim when you lose your job or have reduced hours, not when you're unable to work due to disability or illness.

My situation was eerily similar! I had an interview about misreported hours and then my certifications got stuck in pending. After my interview, I actually printed out all my timesheets and faxed them to EDD with a cover letter explaining the honest mistake (included my claim number on everything). Don't know if it helped, but my pending payments switched to paid about 5 days after I sent the fax. Might be worth trying if you have documentation to support what you told them in the interview.

That's a great idea! I do have my timesheets that show the hours I accidentally misreported. Where did you find the fax number to send these to? And did you reference your interview date in your cover letter?

I used the general EDD fax number (1-866-215-9159) and wrote
