EDD missed scheduled unemployment benefits call - How to reach a real person?
Has anyone else had EDD miss their scheduled appointment? I'm so frustrated. I was supposed to have a call about my unemployment benefits claim, but they never called me. Now I'm stuck wondering what to do next. It's like they don't even care about us. Anyone have advice on how to actually get through to a real person there?

Honestly? Pure luck. But I called at exactly 8:01 am and somehow got through. Maybe try that?

Guys I just saw on twitter that EDD is planning to upgrade their system next month. Hopefully that'll fix some of these issues 🤞

Source? Last time they "upgraded" it made everything worse for like 3 weeks

Plot twist: EDD is actually run by a bunch of hamsters on wheels, and sometimes they fall off. That's why appointments get missed. 🐹🎡

Nah, hamsters would be more efficient. I'm thinking it's more like a bunch of sloths on vacation 🦥🏖️

Maybe it's a combination of both? Hamsters and sloths working together in chaos.

Has anyone tried faxing? I know it sounds ancient, but I heard some people have had success getting attention that way. Might be worth a shot if nothing else is working.

Here's what you need to do to get this sorted out: 1. Document everything: Write down the date and time of your missed appointment, any confirmation numbers you have, and a brief summary of your claim. 2. Try calling again: Yes, it's a pain, but keep trying. Early morning (right when they open) or late afternoon tend to have shorter wait times. 3. Use the online portal: Sometimes you can reschedule or leave a message through your EDD online account. It's worth checking. 4. Contact your local representative: If you're getting nowhere, reach out to your state assembly member or senator. They often have staff dedicated to helping with EDD issues. 5. Be persistent: Unfortunately, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Keep trying different methods until you get through. 6. Prepare for your call: When you do get through, have all your info ready. Be clear about the missed appointment and ask what specific steps you need to take to move your claim forward. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system is overwhelmed, but don't give up. Your benefits are important and you deserve answers. Good luck!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely try calling early tomorrow morning. Do you know what time they usually open?

They open at 8am Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. Set your alarm and be ready to dial right at 8!

Great advice! I'd add: if you do get through, ask for a direct number or extension for follow-up. Sometimes they'll give you one to avoid the main queue next time.

I feel your pain, OP. I've been dealing with EDD for 6 months now. It's like trying to nail jello to a wall. Hang in there and don't give up!

Jello might be easier, honestly. But you're right, persistence is key.

In case anyone needs more info: Claimyr, the service mentioned earlier, offers a useful way around long wait times with EDD. While it costs $20, it helps avoid the frustration of trying to reach EDD on your own. You only pay if you actually get connected to an agent. However, it's important to weigh this cost against the potential benefits — it might not be ideal for everyone. Sometimes, trying traditional methods like calling when EDD opens or using their online portal for re-scheduling might suffice. Always evaluate what works best for your situation.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call

Yeah, I was skeptical at first too. But after wasting hours trying to get through myself, it was worth it. They only charge if you actually get connected to an agent

It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to do anything. Just got a call when an agent was ready

Unpopular opinion: maybe if people stopped trying to game the system, EDD wouldn't be so overwhelmed and could actually help those who really need it. Just saying. 🤷♂️

I'm not saying everyone is cheating, but fraud is a real issue. It hurts all of us in the long run.

Anyone else feel like they're cosplaying as a telephone operator from the 1950s trying to get through to EDD? "Hello, operator? Yes, I'd like to place a call to the year 2023 where government services actually work." 📞👵

pro tip: if u get through to someone who seems clueless, politely ask to be transferred to a tier 2 specialist. they usually know whats up

Hey, former EDD employee here. The missed appointments usually happen due to system glitches or overbooked schedules. It's not an excuse, but just to give you some insight. Best bet is to keep calling and ask to speak with a Tier 2 specialist when you get through.

Sure! Always have your claim number ready, be polite (I know it's hard when you're frustrated), and if possible, use UI Online to upload any documents they might need. It can speed things up a lot.
