EDD eligibility decision timeline - confused about which interview's 7-10 day waiting period applies

So I just had two separate EDD phone interviews and now I'm totally confused about timing. First interview was on 11/15 where the interviewer said they needed to contact my ex-employer and told me to wait 7-10 business days for eligibility decision. But then I got scheduled for a second interview on 11/21 about correcting my final paycheck date and amount. This interviewer ALSO mentioned waiting 7-10 business days for my new Money Network card to arrive (my old one expired) IF I'm found eligible. I'm getting anxious because rent is due soon and I need to know: which interview's 7-10 day timeline should I be counting from? The first or second one? Has anyone dealt with multiple interviews like this before getting a decision? Is there any way to check my eligibility status online while I wait?

The most recent interview is the one that matters. The 7-10 business days starts from your second interview (11/21). Each time they collect new information, the clock essentially resets because they're updating your case. If you check your UI Online account, you might see a notification when a determination is made, but not always. The notification system is hit or miss.

Thanks for clarifying! I've been checking UI Online obsessively but don't see any updates yet. Does it usually take the full 10 business days? That would be around Dec 5th which is after my rent is due... getting nervous about timing.

go off the 2nd interview date 100%. i had this exact situation happen in january and ended up waiting almost 3 weeks from my 1st interview before realizing the 2nd one is what mattered!! so frustrating how they dont explain this clearly!!!

3 weeks?! Oh no, that's way longer than I can wait. Did you try calling them at all during those 3 weeks?

The waiting period restarts after your most recent interview. The second interviewer collecting information about your final paycheck is part of the eligibility determination process. They need this information to calculate your correct benefit amount. In my experience, while they say 7-10 business days, I've found they often make determinations faster, especially when the case is straightforward. Keep checking your UI Online account daily - once a determination is made, you'll see your claim status change from "pending" to either "paid" or "disqualified." If 10 business days pass after your second interview with no update, then it's definitely time to call EDD for a status check. Just be prepared for long hold times trying to reach a representative.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I'm hoping it's straightforward - I was laid off due to downsizing, worked at the company for 3 years, and all my wage information should be verifiable. Fingers crossed they approve it quickly.

I went through something similar last month. Had two interviews and waited FOUR WEEKS with no decision!! Finally broke down and tried calling EDD directly but you know how that goes - constant busy signals and disconnections. Was about to give up when I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep I spoke with told me my claim was actually approved but there was a system glitch that prevented the notification from going out. Got my Money Network card 3 days later! Might be worth checking if you're getting close to that rent deadline.

Yeah it definitely worked for me! Saved me hours of redial frustration. The rep I got was actually helpful too - she even expedited my card delivery.

Why does everyone say Money Network card now?? I thought EDD still used Bank of America?? Did I miss something??

EDD switched from Bank of America to Money Network for all new claims starting July 2024. If you had an active claim before then, you might still have a BofA card, but all new claims get the Money Network card now. The transition was announced earlier this year.

Ohhhh that explains it! I haven't had to file since 2023. Thanks for explaining!

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! I had THREE interviews for my claim and each time they told me "7-10 days" but it took TWO MONTHS to get approved. They hope you'll just find a job and stop pursuing your rightful benefits. CALL THEM EVERY DAY until you get an answer. The squeaky wheel gets the grease with EDD. Don't listen to people saying "just wait" - BE PERSISTENT!!!! Their "timeline" is total BS.

That's honestly terrifying to hear. I can't wait 2 months - I'll be evicted! I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning when they first open. Did you just use the regular customer service number?

YES call RIGHT when they open at 8am. And keep calling back if you get the "too many callers" message. Sometimes took me 20+ attempts but I eventually got through. The regular number works but ask for a Tier 2 specialist when you get someone - the first-level reps can't do much.

UPDATE: I just checked my UI Online account and my status changed to "paid"! They must have processed it faster than the 7-10 days they quoted. So relieved! Now just waiting for that Money Network card to arrive. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

That's great news! If you need the funds urgently before your card arrives, you can also set up direct deposit through UI Online. Go to "Payment Methods" and select "Change Payment Method" to enter your bank account information. This would apply to future payments though, not the one that's already processing.

Oh that's really helpful - I'll set up direct deposit right now so I don't have to wait for the card for future payments. Thank you!

Congrats on getting approved! That's such a relief when you see that status change to "paid." For anyone else still waiting - I had a similar experience where they quoted 7-10 days but it actually took 12 business days. The key thing I learned is that weekends and holidays don't count as "business days" so make sure you're calculating correctly. Also, once your status changes to "paid," the Money Network card usually arrives within 5-7 business days via regular mail. If you're in a rush, you can call Money Network directly to see if they offer expedited shipping for a fee.
