EDD amended award letter shows old employer income - still at max WBA but first payment delayed a month
Just got an amended UI award letter in the mail that's got me a bit nervous. EDD apparently found income from an employer I worked for 2 years ago that I didn't include in my application (honestly wasn't trying to hide anything - I just don't have access to those old pay stubs anymore). The letter shows my weekly benefit amount is still the same since I was already at the max benefit ($550). Should I be worried about this amended notice? Will it delay my claim processing? I filed almost a month ago and still haven't received my first payment. My UI Online account shows everything as "pending" with no clear explanation why. Is this normal for first payments? How much longer should I expect to wait before I start panicking?

dont worry bout it if ur still getting the max $$. EDD just has to do the paperwork thing when they find unreported wages. happens ALL THE TIME

•Thanks, that's a relief. Any idea why my first payment is taking so long though? It's been almost 4 weeks since I filed.

The amended award letter itself shouldn't be a problem since it didn't change your WBA. However, the fact that you've been waiting almost a month for your first payment is concerning. First payments typically take 2-3 weeks if everything is in order. Have you completed your certifications properly? Did you receive any notifications about needing to verify your identity or schedule an eligibility interview? These are common reasons for delays.

•I've certified for 2 weeks already and both show as pending. I didn't get any messages about identity verification or interviews in my UI Online inbox. Should I call them to find out what's going on?

This EXACT same thing happened to me last month!!! They found some random job I did in 2021 and sent me an amended letter. I freaked out thinking they were going to cancel my claim but nothing happened. Still getting my payments just fine. But yeah waiting a month for first payment isn't normal. Mine took like 10 days tops.

The amended award letter is routine and nothing to worry about, especially since your WBA wasn't affected. EDD regularly cross-references wage data with tax records and updates accordingly. As for your payment delay, at this point you should definitely contact EDD. If both certifications are stuck in pending for a month, there's likely an issue that needs resolving. It could be anything from identity verification to a potential eligibility issue that needs clarification. Unfortunately, reaching EDD by phone can be extremely difficult due to high call volumes. I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an EDD representative quickly. They basically call EDD for you and connect you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration when my claim was stuck. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Thank you! I'll check out that service. I've been trying to call for days but either get a busy signal or the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. Had no idea there were services to help with that.

EDD is the WORST at communication!!! They probably flagged your account for something stupid and didn't even tell you. The amended award letter is probably unrelated to the delay. When they found my old wages, they just sent the letter and nothing changed. BUT you need to call them ASAP!!! A month is TOO LONG to be waiting for your first payment unless there's a specific issue. Don't waste more time - call them tomorrow morning at 8:01am exactly when they open!

•i agree with this 100%. my brother had similar issue and turns out they needed to verify something random but never sent a notice. one phone call fixed everything and he got paid 2 days later!

I had something kinda similar happen back in January. Got an amended notice because I forgot to report some 1099 work (oops). But my payments still came through ok since I was already at the max. For your payment issue though, have you checked if your EDD account shows a "Stop Payment Alert"? That happened to me and it was because I accidentally answered a certification question wrong.

•I don't see any stop payment alerts. Just says pending for both weeks I certified. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion though!

The amended award letter is normal procedure and nothing to worry about since your WBA didn't change. However, waiting a month for your first payment indicates there's likely an issue requiring attention. Here are some possible reasons for the delay: 1. Identity verification pending (ID.me) 2. Employment history verification needed 3. Eligibility interview required but not yet scheduled 4. Potential issue with your certifications 5. System flag requiring manual review At this point, I strongly recommend calling EDD directly. Be prepared with your claim information and explain that you've been waiting a month with no payment and no communication about any issues. The sooner you address this, the faster you'll get your benefits. Try calling right at 8:00 AM when they open or use one of the contact assistance services if you're having trouble getting through.

•Thank you for that detailed explanation! I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning. I just checked my UI Online account again and everything still says pending with no messages or alerts about any issues. It's so frustrating not knowing what's going on.

Just checking back - were you able to contact EDD about your delayed payment? If so, what did they say was causing the hold-up?

•Thanks for following up! I was finally able to get through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. Turns out EDD had flagged my account for an eligibility interview because of the amended wages, but they never sent me a notification about it. The rep scheduled an interview for next week and said my payments should process after that. At least now I know what's happening!
