EDD SDI claim issues: Can't reach anyone by phone, need advice
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my disability claim through EDD. Has anyone else been dealing with this? I've been trying to get through to someone on the phone for days but no luck. Any advice on how to handle this or what I should do next? I'm starting to get really worried about my benefits.

If you're still having trouble getting through EDD, I would recommend utilizing a service like Claimyr. While it does cost, many have found it a worthwhile investment to get through the clogged bureaucracy. However, it's important to weigh the cost and remember that persistence with traditional methods can also yield results without the fee. Also, contacting your local representatives or legal aid, as mentioned previously, can provide further assistance without additional costs.

Hey OP, what kind of disability are you dealing with? I'm on SDI for a back injury and it took forever to get approved. If it's similar, I might be able to give you some specific advice.

I have a chronic illness that flares up unpredictably. It's been really hard to work consistently because of it. Any advice would be appreciated!

Ah, gotcha. For chronic conditions, make sure you have really detailed documentation from your doctor. Like, super specific about how it affects your ability to work. That helped me a lot. Also, be prepared for them to possibly request an independent medical exam. Don't stress if they do - it's pretty standard for some claims.

Also, make sure your doctor is available to respond to any EDD requests quickly. The back and forth can delay things.

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main line, try calling some of the other EDD numbers (like the employer line or tech support). Sometimes they can transfer you to the right department. It's not guaranteed, but worth a shot!

Does anyone know if this actually works? I'd hate to waste more time on hold.

OMG I'M IN THE SAME BOAT!!! 😭😭😭 It's so frustrating. I've been calling every day for two weeks straight. This is seriously affecting my mental health at this point.

Hang in there! We're all in this together. Have you tried reaching out to any support groups? Might help to talk to others going through the same thing.

Thanks for the support. It's just so hard not knowing when or if I'll get my benefits. Bills are piling up and I'm running out of options.

I completely understand. The stress is real. Maybe try some breathing exercises or meditation to help cope with the anxiety?

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money, ya know?

I used Claimyr and it actually did work. I was hesitant at first because of the cost, but in my case, it was worth the expense just to get through and have some peace of mind.

Y'all ever wonder if there's just like one person working at EDD? 😂 How else could it be THIS bad? Maybe we should start a GoFundMe to hire them some help lmao

I haven't heard about any changes. Do you know where I could find more info on that?

Try checking the EDD website or maybe google "California disability benefits changes 2023" or something like that. Sorry I don't have more specifics!

I think there were some minor policy adjustments recently, especially after all the COVID-related claims. Definitely worth checking the official EDD site periodically.

Friendly reminder to everyone: BE CAREFUL what info you share online about your claim. I've heard stories of people getting their benefits delayed because of social media posts. Stay safe out there!

Has anyone had luck with the online portal? I've been trying to upload some additional documents but keep getting error messages. Is it just me or is their website from like 1995? 🤦♂️

Omg yes! I thought it was just my computer. Tried on my phone too and still nothing. EDD needs to get with the times fr

Try using a different browser. For some reason, it works better on Firefox for me. Also, make sure your files aren't too big - they have a size limit.

Also, sometimes clearing your cache or trying incognito mode helps with these older systems.

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is a total nightmare rn. I've been trying to get through for weeks. It's like they don't want us to actually get our benefits 🙄

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through. Also, keep hitting 0 or # during the automated message - sometimes that'll get you to a real person faster.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

Anyone else notice how the EDD website is always "down for maintenance" at the most inconvenient times? 🙄 It's like they're trying to make this as difficult as possible.

For real! I swear it's intentional. They probably can't handle all the claims so they just shut it down 😂

Ugh, yes! I tried to certify at midnight last Sunday and the site crashed. Had to wait until Tuesday to finally get through. So annoying.

lol good luck. EDD is a joke. I've been waiting 6 months for my claim to be processed. Might as well start looking for under-the-table work at this point 🤡

PSA: If you're really desperate, you can try contacting your local news station. Sometimes they do stories on people struggling with EDD and it can light a fire under them to resolve your case. Worth a shot if you've tried everything else!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, emails, and attempts to contact EDD. 2. Check your online account daily for any updates or messages. 3. If you haven't already, file an appeal if your claim was denied. 4. Reach out to your local state representative's office. They often have liaisons who can help with EDD issues. 5. Consider contacting legal aid if you're really stuck. Some offer free assistance with disability claims. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The system is overwhelmed, but you have rights and deserve your benefits.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping better records. Do you know how long the appeal process usually takes?

Appeals can take anywhere from 30 to 90 days, unfortunately. But don't let that discourage you. Keep pushing!

Guys, I know it's frustrating, but remember the EDD workers are probably overwhelmed too. My cousin works there and says it's absolute chaos. Not excusing the bad service, just saying maybe direct your anger at the higher-ups and politicians who underfund these programs.

Fair point. It's easy to forget there are real people on the other end. Still doesn't make the waiting any easier tho 😕

Nah, I'm tired of making excuses for them. We pay taxes for this service. If they can't handle it, they need to fix the system. Period.

This whole system is rigged against us, I swear. They make it so complicated on purpose so people just give up. Don't let them win! Keep fighting for what you deserve! 💪
