EDD 'Qualification' status with 'Auto Payment' reason but money not showing up in my account

I'm feeling super confused right now. I checked my UI Online account this morning and under Claim Activity it shows 'Qualification' status and 'Auto Payment' under reason. I was expecting the money to hit my account today (it usually deposits around 9-10am), but it's now almost 6pm and nothing's there. This is my 3rd certification period and the first two payments came through without any issues. Does 'Qualification' mean something bad? I thought it was a good thing but now I'm worried. Has anyone else had this status but still got paid? How long should I wait before panicking? I really need this payment to cover my rent due in 3 days.

' Qualification is actually a good status - it means'they ve determined'you re qualified to receive benefits. 'The Auto' Payment means the system has triggered an automatic payment to your account. There are a few reasons why you might not see it yet: 1. Bank processing delays - some banks take 24-48 hours to post EDD deposits 2. First deposit to a new account can take 1-3 business days longer 3. If'you re using the Money Network card, sometimes'there s a delay in funds appearing in the app vs. being available'I d give it until tomorrow afternoon before getting too worried. The status in your account confirms'they ve approved it for payment, which is the hardestpart!

Thank you so much for explaining! I'm using direct deposit to my credit union and usually it's super fast. Do holidays affect the timing? There was a holiday last week, maybe that's delaying things? I'll try to be patient until tomorrow.

The EDD system is BEYOND FRUSTRATING. They show these statuses that don't match what's actually happening and expect us to just wait around starving while they take their sweet time. 'Qualification' should mean QUALIFIED TO GET PAID, not 'qualified to wait another 3 days wondering if you'll make rent.' I've had 'Auto Payment' take up to 5 days before. The whole system is designed to stress you out! They should call it 'Maybe Payment If We Feel Like It.

5 days?! Oh my god, I can't wait that long! My landlord is already mad at me for being late last month. Do you know if there's any way to speed it up?

Unfortunately not unless you can somehow get through to an actual EDD rep, which is basically impossible. I spent TWO WEEKS calling hundreds of times before I finally got through. The system is deliberately broken.

I had a similar situation when I was on unemployment last year. The money would sometimes show as processed in the system but take an extra day to hit my account. This usually happened when there were a lot of claims being processed at once or around holidays. Your benefits are almost certainly coming, just delayed a bit. If you need to reach EDD to confirm (which might give you peace of mind), I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an agent when I couldn't get through the normal way. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. It was worth it when I was freaking out about a payment delay that ended up being an easy fix once I actually talked to someone.

I might try that service if the money doesn't show up by tomorrow afternoon. Getting pretty desperate at this point! Thanks for the suggestion.

Just wanted to add that if you use direct deposit, the 'Qualification' status with 'Auto Payment' reason simply means your payment has been authorized and is in process. The EDD system runs payment batches at specific times, and depending on when your certification was processed, it may be in the next batch. Bank processing times then add another layer of delay. If your payment doesn't appear by the day after tomorrow, that's when I'd recommend contacting EDD. Your UI Online account should update to show 'Paid' with a date once the money has been sent from EDD's side.

Did you check if your certification was for a normal week or if you had any earnings to report? Sometimes when you report earnings, it takes a day or two longer to process because they have to calculate the partial payment. If your dashboard shows the proper payment amount and 'auto payment,' it's definitely coming. The EDD computer systems run on ancient technology and sometimes payments get delayed because the system is overloaded, especially on Mondays when most people certify.

I did have some part-time hours this period - about 12 hours total. Maybe that's what's causing the delay! I reported everything correctly but didn't think about that causing a delay. That makes me feel a bit better.

Great to hear! Glad it worked out for you. The EDD system can be nerve-wracking when you're depending on that money.

Lucky you! Mine usually takes 3-4 days even with 'Auto Payment'. The EDD system is SO inconsistent.

So glad to see your update that the payment came through! This is exactly why I always tell people not to panic too quickly with EDD delays. The system is slow and clunky, but when it shows 'Qualification' and 'Auto Payment' like yours did, the money is almost always on its way. The fact that you had part-time earnings probably did add to the processing time since they have to calculate the partial payment amount. Your story will definitely help other people who find themselves in the same scary situation!

This is such a relief to read! I'm actually going through something similar right now - my certification shows the same status but no payment yet. Your experience gives me hope that I just need to wait a bit longer. It's so stressful when you're counting on that money! Thanks for sharing the update, it really helps newcomers like me understand what's normal with EDD delays.

I'm so glad everything worked out for you! This thread is really helpful for understanding EDD payment timing. I'm new to the system and was wondering - when you reported those part-time hours, did it reduce your payment amount or just delay it? I might have some freelance work coming up and want to know what to expect when I report those earnings. Also, does anyone know if the delay is longer the first time you report earnings vs. subsequent times?

Great questions! When you report part-time earnings, EDD uses a formula to calculate your partial benefits - basically they subtract a portion of what you earned from your weekly benefit amount (not dollar for dollar though, there's usually some earnings you can keep). The delay seems to happen because their system has to do these calculations instead of just issuing your full weekly amount. From what I've seen in this community, the first time you report earnings it might take an extra day or two, but once the system has processed earnings for you before, subsequent times are usually faster. Just make sure to report everything accurately - even small amounts of freelance work - because they will eventually find out and it's better to be upfront!

Thanks for posting this - it's so helpful to see the whole journey from panic to resolution! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now where my UI Online shows 'Qualification' and 'Auto Payment' but no money in my account yet (it's been about 18 hours). Reading through all these responses really helps calm my nerves. The part about reporting earnings causing delays makes total sense - I also had some gig work hours to report this certification period. It's crazy how stressful the EDD system can be when you're relying on these payments for basic expenses like rent. Definitely bookmarking this thread for future reference!

I'm in almost the exact same boat! Just certified yesterday and have the 'Qualification'/'Auto Payment' status but nothing in my account yet. Like you, I also had some gig work to report this period (about 8 hours of DoorDash), so reading everyone's explanations about earnings causing processing delays is really reassuring. It's so nerve-wracking when you're depending on that money - I've been checking my bank account every hour! This thread is definitely a lifesaver for understanding what's normal vs. when to actually worry. Fingers crossed both our payments show up soon!

This thread is incredibly helpful! I'm brand new to the unemployment system (just filed my first claim last week) and seeing all these different experiences with payment timing is really educational. It sounds like 'Qualification' + 'Auto Payment' is actually a good sign, even when the money doesn't show up immediately. The explanations about part-time earnings causing processing delays make so much sense - I'll definitely keep that in mind when I certify for the first time next week. It's reassuring to know that payment delays of 1-2 days seem pretty normal, especially when you have earnings to report. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps newcomers like me understand what to expect from this confusing system!

Welcome to the EDD world! Your attitude is great - being prepared and understanding what's normal versus what's concerning will save you a lot of stress. One tip for when you certify: keep detailed records of any work you do and earnings you receive, even small amounts. The EDD system is pretty good at cross-referencing with tax records eventually, so it's always better to report everything upfront. Also, don't be surprised if your first payment takes a bit longer than subsequent ones - there seems to be extra verification that happens with new claims. This community is really helpful when you have questions, and threads like this one show that most payment "delays" that seem scary end up resolving within a day or two. Good luck with your first certification!

What a rollercoaster this thread has been to read! I'm so glad your payment came through @Lydia Santiago - there's nothing worse than that sinking feeling when you're depending on unemployment benefits and they don't show up when expected. For anyone else reading this who might be in a similar situation, this is such a perfect example of how the EDD system works (or doesn't work smoothly). The key takeaways seem to be: 1) 'Qualification' + 'Auto Payment' is actually good news, 2) reporting part-time earnings definitely adds processing time, and 3) payment delays of 24-48 hours are unfortunately pretty normal. I've been on unemployment for about 6 months now and have learned that the EDD system runs on its own timeline. Banking delays, system processing batches, earnings calculations - there are so many variables that can add a day or two to when you actually see the money. The anxiety is real though, especially when rent is due! This thread will definitely help other people going through the same stress.

This thread has been such a lifesaver to read through! I'm completely new to the unemployment system and honestly had no idea what any of these statuses meant. Seeing @Lydia Santiago go from panic to relief really shows how confusing the EDD system can be for newcomers. The explanations about part-time earnings causing delays are especially helpful - I m'doing some freelance work while job hunting and was worried about how to handle reporting that. It s'both frustrating and reassuring to know that payment delays are so common. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it really helps those of us who are navigating this system for the first time!
