EDD Overpayment Issue: Owed Difference Between Disability and Unemployment?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment benefits. I was on disability for a few weeks while also receiving unemployment. Now I'm being told there's an overpayment issue, but I think I'm actually owed the difference between disability and unemployment for those weeks. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice on how to approach this when I finally get through to someone?

Ugh, the system is so messed up! I had a similar issue last year. Make sure you have all your dates and documentation ready when you talk to them. It's gonna be a headache, but stay persistent!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait for the callback?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still way better than trying to call yourself!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your documentation: disability claim info, unemployment claim info, and any correspondence you've received. 2. Calculate the exact difference you believe you're owed. 3. When you get through to an agent, explain calmly that you were on both disability and unemployment, and you believe there's been a miscalculation. 4. Ask them to review your case specifically for the weeks where the two benefits overlapped. 5. If the agent isn't helpful, politely ask to speak with a supervisor or to have your case escalated for review. 6. Keep detailed notes of every conversation, including dates, times, and agent names. 7. If you don't get resolution over the phone, consider submitting a written appeal. Remember, stay calm and persistent. The system is complicated, and mistakes happen. Good luck!

have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember or state senator? Sometimes they can help cut through the red tape.

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main line, try calling right when they open or just before they close. Sometimes you can catch a break in the queue.

Am I the only one who thinks the whole system needs a complete overhaul? 🤔 It's 2023, why is this still so complicated?
