EDD Fax number (1866-215-9159) not working for claim documents - anyone else having issues?

I've been pulling my hair out since 7 AM trying to fax my claim documents to the EDD number 1866-215-9159. Every attempt ends with either a busy signal or the fax just doesn't go through. I've tried from two different fax machines (office and FedEx store) with the same result. Is this number even working anymore? Has anyone successfully faxed anything to EDD recently? I'm getting really nervous because my deadline to submit these verification documents is tomorrow and I don't want my claim to be disqualified over this technical issue. Any suggestions on alternative ways to send the documents or a different fax number I should try?

That fax number has been having issues for weeks. I successfully sent docs last month but had to try at really odd hours (like 11pm) when fewer people were trying. Another option is to mail the documents with tracking to their processing center, though that takes longer. Make sure to keep proof you attempted to send it before the deadline - take screenshots of failed fax confirmations or get a receipt from FedEx showing you tried. You can also try uploading documents directly through UI Online if they're for a regular unemployment claim - look under 'Upload Documents' in your account menu.

Thank you! I didn't even think about trying at odd hours. I'll try tonight around 11pm like you suggested. I checked UI Online but couldn't find where to upload these specific documents (they're for income verification). Do you know if EDD accepts documents by email? I'm just so worried about missing this deadline.

Wow, 6am Sunday?? That's crazy but good to know. I'm willing to try any hour at this point. Did you get a confirmation page when it finally went through?

Call them directly and explain the fax issues. They might give you an extension on the deadline or provide an alternate submission method. The EDD systems are notoriously unreliable, but they usually make adjustments if you can prove you've been trying to submit on time. Document all your attempts with dates/times, and take screenshots of any error messages. I had a similar issue and they gave me a 3-day extension once I could get through to a rep.

Good luck calling EDD directly! I spent 4 days trying before I found out about Claimyr.com - it got me connected to an actual EDD agent in under 30 minutes when I had the same fax issue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep I spoke with gave me an alternate fax number that actually worked AND noted in my file that I had been trying to submit before the deadline. Saved my claim from being disqualified honestly.

It's definitely not working consistently though. The system gets overloaded at peak times - if you happened to fax during a low-volume period, you got lucky. I've spoken with EDD reps who confirmed the fax system has limited capacity and frequently gets backed up, especially near filing deadlines when volume is highest.

This is why I HATE dealing with EDD!!! Their systems are always breaking down when you need them most. I had the EXACT same problem with that fax number last month when I was trying to submit my appeal documents. I ended up having to DRIVE TWO HOURS to an actual EDD office and hand-deliver my paperwork because I couldn't risk missing my deadline. If you're close to an office, that might be your safest bet at this point. Make sure to get a receipt and the name of who you give it to!!!!!

Unfortunately the closest office is almost 3 hours away from me, so that would be really hard to do by tomorrow. Did you try any other submission methods before resorting to driving to the office?

I work at a legal aid organization that helps people with EDD issues, and the fax problems are a common complaint. Here's what I recommend: 1. Try faxing during off-hours (midnight-6am) 2. Call EDD and request an extension due to technical difficulties 3. If your documents are for identity verification, try using ID.me instead 4. Send documents via certified mail with return receipt AND keep the tracking info 5. Document all your failed attempts (screenshots, receipts from fax services) The key is to have proof you attempted to comply with the deadline. Under EDD regulations, they must consider technical difficulties on their end as a valid reason for late submission. Keep detailed records of every attempt, including dates, times, and error messages.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'm going to try faxing tonight during the off-hours you suggested. I've been keeping screenshots of all my failed attempts, so that's good to know. If it still doesn't work by morning, I'll try calling to request an extension. These aren't identity verification docs - they're income verification for my benefits calculation.

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with EDD (finally reached them after using Claimyr's callback service). The rep confirmed they're having issues with that fax number and gave me an alternative number to use: 1-916-464-XXXX. She also said they're aware of the technical problems and are automatically extending deadlines by 5 business days for anyone trying to fax documents this week. Hope this helps someone else!

Thank you so much for sharing this! That's a huge relief to hear about the automatic extension. I'll try the alternate number you mentioned right away. Did they mention if this is a temporary issue or something ongoing with their fax system?

Ugh I remember when I had to deal with this last year. So my brother in law works for a company that does something with fax machines (i forget what exactly) and he told me that those toll free fax numbers often get overwhelmed because they can only handle like 5-10 faxes at once. So when hundreds of people are trying to fax their stuff all day it just keeps getting busy signals. I ended up mailing my stuff in but got penalized for being late even tho it wasnt my fault! Maybe try one of those online fax services instead of a real fax machine? Just a thought.

SUCCESS UPDATE: After many failed attempts, I finally got through! For anyone facing the same issue - I took everyone's advice and tried faxing at 1:15am (when I got up to use the bathroom lol) and it went through immediately. I also called using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above and got a confirmation from a rep that they received my documents and made a note about all my previous attempts. Thank you all SO MUCH for your help! What a stressful experience.

Excellent! Make sure to save the fax confirmation and the name of the rep you spoke with. I recommend taking a screenshot of your UI Online account in a few days when it shows they received your documents, just for your records. Glad it worked out!

So glad to see this got resolved! I'm bookmarking this thread because the advice here is gold. The off-hours faxing tip and the Claimyr service recommendation are game-changers. I've been dreading having to deal with EDD fax issues myself, but now I have a roadmap if it happens. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to submit required documents, but at least there are workarounds. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions!

Totally agree! This thread should be pinned somewhere for future reference. I'm dealing with a disability claim right now and was dreading the document submission process, but now I feel way more prepared. The combination of trying off-hours, using Claimyr to get through to a rep, and keeping detailed records of all attempts seems like the winning strategy. It's honestly shameful that EDD's systems are this unreliable in 2025, but I'm grateful for communities like this where people actually help each other navigate these bureaucratic nightmares.

This thread is incredibly helpful and should definitely be saved for reference! I'm currently dealing with EDD for the first time and was absolutely panicking about their fax system after hearing horror stories. Reading through everyone's experiences and solutions gives me so much more confidence. The key takeaways seem to be: try faxing during off-peak hours (especially late night/early morning), use services like Claimyr to actually get through to a human, document EVERYTHING with screenshots and receipts, and don't be afraid to ask for extensions when their systems fail. It's frustrating that we need these workarounds, but I'm so grateful for communities where people share real solutions instead of just complaining. Ethan, congrats on getting your docs submitted - that must have been such a relief!

Yes, this thread is a goldmine of practical advice! I'm new to dealing with EDD and honestly terrified after reading so many nightmare stories online. But seeing how everyone here actually helped each other solve real problems gives me hope. The step-by-step strategies people shared - especially the off-hours faxing, keeping detailed records, and using services like Claimyr - are exactly what newcomers like me need to know. It's crazy that we have to become experts in workarounds just to submit basic paperwork, but at least we don't have to figure it out alone. Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their experiences - you're literally helping people keep their benefits!

As someone who's been lurking in this community for months trying to gather courage to deal with my own EDD claim, this thread is exactly what I needed to see. I've been putting off submitting my documents because I was so intimidated by all the horror stories about their systems not working. But seeing how everyone here actually problem-solved together and got Ethan's issue resolved gives me real hope. The practical tips about trying during off-hours, using Claimyr, and keeping detailed records are so much more helpful than the generic advice you get from official sources. It's honestly heartwarming to see strangers on the internet genuinely helping each other navigate such a stressful bureaucratic mess. I'm finally going to tackle my own document submission this week armed with all this knowledge. Thank you all for creating such a supportive space!

I totally understand that intimidation factor - I was in the same boat just a few weeks ago! This community really is amazing for breaking down these overwhelming processes into manageable steps. One thing I'd add to all the great advice already shared: if you're still nervous about the fax process, consider calling ahead during business hours (using Claimyr or just being patient with hold times) to confirm they actually need those specific documents and ask about any alternative submission methods. Sometimes they can email you a secure upload link or tell you about other options that aren't widely advertised. Good luck with your submission - you've got this! And don't hesitate to come back here if you run into any issues.

Wow, what a journey this thread has been! I just went through something very similar last week with a different set of documents, and reading through all these solutions makes me wish I'd found this community sooner. I ended up spending three full days trying that same fax number with zero success, then finally stumbled across the off-hours strategy on my own around 2 AM - worked like a charm! The Claimyr service mentioned here is absolutely worth the small fee if you need to talk to an actual person quickly. One additional tip I'd add: if you're using a FedEx or UPS store for faxing, ask them to try sending during their slowest hours (they usually know when that is) and some locations will actually attempt multiple sends for you if the first few don't go through. It's ridiculous that we need all these workarounds in 2025, but I'm so grateful for communities like this where people actually share real solutions that work!
