Confused about conditional payments during EDD eligibility interview wait - only got paid for 1 week out of 3?

I'm totally confused about how these conditional payments work while waiting for an eligibility interview. My husband lost his construction job in January and applied for UI benefits right away. He certified for three weeks (ending 2/1, 2/8, and 2/15) and they all showed as pending. Then last week, he got a message in UI Online saying they're doing conditional payments while he waits for his eligibility interview (scheduled for March 10th). But they only paid him for the week ending 2/1! The other two weeks (2/8 and 2/15) are still showing as pending. I thought conditional payments were supposed to cover everything while you wait? Will the system automatically release payment for those other weeks once they've been pending for 2 weeks, or do we need to call? This is so stressful since we're relying on this income right now.

The conditional payment system is super inconsistent lately. From what I've seen, EDD is SUPPOSED to release payment for all weeks that have been pending for more than 14 days while you're waiting for an eligibility interview. But the system doesn't always work the way it should. Has your husband continued to certify for weeks after 2/15? Sometimes that triggers the earlier weeks to process.

Yes, he certified for 2/22 this past Sunday but that's still pending too. Do you think we need to call EDD to get those weeks released or just wait it out?

I had almost the exact same situation in January! The conditional payment system is designed to pay benefits while EDD determines eligibility, but it doesn't always process all weeks at once. Here's what happens: 1. The system flags some weeks for conditional payment (usually the oldest pending week first) 2. Other weeks sometimes stay pending until either: - Your interview happens and they make a determination - The system processes more conditional payments (which can take 1-2 more certification cycles) In my case, they paid my first pending week as conditional, then the next two weeks processed as conditional about 10 days later without me doing anything. I'd recommend waiting until after your next certification before calling.

Thank you for explaining! That gives me some hope that the system might process the other weeks soon. His next certification is in 6 days, so maybe we'll wait until then before trying to call.

Call them!! I waited 3 weeks for my conditional payments and nothing happened until I called. The rep told me there was a glitch in my account that was preventing the system from automatically processing my conditional payments for all weeks. She fixed it while I was on the phone and I got paid for all my pending weeks within 24 hours.

This is exactly why the EDD system drives me CRAZY! Why does it take calling them to get things working properly? The whole point of conditional payments was supposed to be to get people money while they wait, but then you have to call to actually make it happen. Ridiculous.

i think sometimes the 2 wk counter starts from different times for each week u certify. so the 2/1 week hit 14 days first and got paid but the others haven't hit their 14 day mark yet from whenever edd counts from (not always when u certify

That's interesting, I hadn't thought about that. Maybe the 14-day counter starts from different points for each week. That would explain why only one got processed so far.

If you need to reach EDD, I'd recommend using Claimyr. I was in the exact same boat with conditional payments not processing correctly, and I spent days trying to call with no luck. Claimyr connected me to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes when I was getting busy signals for days. The rep fixed my conditional payment issue immediately. You can check out how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km or go to claimyr.com. Saved me so much frustration!

Thanks for the tip! If the remaining weeks don't process after the next certification cycle, we might give that a try. Been trying to call for days with no luck.

This whole conditional payment thing is SO confusing. When I had my eligibility interview scheduled, I was in pending for 5 weeks and they only paid me for 2 of them conditionally. The EDD rep told me during my interview that sometimes their system puts a hold on weeks where there might be a potential issue (like if your husband reported any earnings or didn't do enough job searches or answered a question differently than previous weeks). After my interview was complete and I was approved, all my remaining weeks switched to paid within 48 hours. So if his interview is March 10th and it goes well, the other weeks should get resolved then at the latest.

That's reassuring to hear that your remaining weeks got paid after your interview. He answered all the questions the same way each time and did his job search activities, so hopefully the interview goes smoothly. March 10th seems so far away though!

My brother went thru this last month. EDD is doing a weird thing where they're only conditionally paying SOME weeks even though they're supposed to be paying ALL weeks that are pending more than 14 days. When he called, they said there's a "secondary review" happening on some weeks that prevents conditional payments. It's complete garbage and they're making their own rules up as they go along!!! The system is broken!

0 coins

That "secondary review" thing happened to me too! The rep never could explain what it actually meant, just that certain weeks get flagged for extra verification. The whole system needs to be completely rebuilt.

One more thing to check - login to UI Online and make sure the weeks that are still pending don't have any message about "excessive earnings" or any other issues flagged. Sometimes if you reported any income for those weeks (even a small amount), it can prevent conditional payments from processing automatically.

Just double-checked and there are no messages or flags on any of the pending weeks. He hasn't had any earnings since being laid off in January. It's just strange that only one week got the conditional payment treatment.

anyone else notice the edd website is down like every saturday night?? maybe thats when they update the system for conditional payments

0 coins

YES! Always down for "maintenance" when people actually have time to deal with their claims. Not a coincidence IMO.

Update us after your husband's next certification cycle! I'm curious if certifying again will trigger those other weeks to process as conditional payments. That's what happened in my case back in December.

0 coins

Will do! He'll be certifying again this Sunday, so I'll post an update next week to let everyone know if that triggered anything to change with the pending weeks.

I'm going through something similar right now! Filed in late January and have been waiting for my eligibility interview (scheduled for next week). I had 4 weeks pending and they only released conditional payment for 2 of them - the oldest and newest weeks, but left the middle two still pending. It makes no sense! From what I've gathered reading through all these comments and my own research, it seems like EDD's conditional payment system is basically broken right now. Some people get all their weeks paid conditionally, others get partial payments, and some get nothing at all even after the 14-day rule. I'd suggest waiting until after Sunday's certification to see if that triggers the other weeks, but if not, definitely call. The system clearly isn't working as intended and sometimes it takes a human to manually push things through. Good luck with the March 10th interview!

This is so frustrating to hear that it's happening to other people too! The fact that they paid your oldest and newest weeks but skipped the middle ones makes absolutely no sense. It really does seem like their system is just randomly deciding which weeks to pay conditionally. Thanks for sharing your experience - it helps to know we're not alone in dealing with this mess. Hopefully both of our interviews go smoothly and get everything sorted out!

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Filed in early February and have been waiting for my eligibility interview (scheduled for next week). Had 3 weeks pending and they only released conditional payment for 1 week - the very first one. The other two are still stuck in pending status even though they've been there for over 2 weeks now. What's really frustrating is that when I called EDD (after being on hold for 3 hours), the rep told me that conditional payments are supposed to be automatic after 14 days, but then said sometimes there are "system delays" that prevent it from happening. When I asked what causes these delays, she couldn't give me a clear answer. I've been reading through different forums and it seems like this partial conditional payment issue started happening more frequently in the last few months. Some people theorize it's related to EDD's system updates, but who knows. The lack of consistency is what makes it so stressful - you never know if you'll get paid or not even when you qualify for conditional payments. Hoping your husband's interview goes well and clears everything up! At least there's light at the end of the tunnel with that scheduled date.

It's so maddening that EDD reps can't even explain their own system! The fact that you waited 3 hours just to be told there are mysterious "system delays" with no real explanation is exactly what's wrong with this whole process. It really does seem like these partial conditional payment issues ramped up recently - I wonder if it's related to some backend changes they made that they're not telling anyone about. The inconsistency is the worst part because you can't even plan or know what to expect. Thanks for sharing your experience and good luck with your interview too!

I'm in a very similar situation and it's driving me crazy! Filed in mid-January after being laid off from my retail job, and I've had 4 weeks pending for my eligibility interview (scheduled for March 15th). EDD released conditional payment for only 2 of my weeks - the first and third weeks I certified for, but weeks 2 and 4 are still sitting in pending status. What's really confusing is that all my weeks were submitted the exact same way, with the same job search activities and no earnings reported. There's literally no difference between them that would explain why some got conditional payments and others didn't. I tried calling last week and after 2.5 hours on hold, the rep basically told me the same thing others have mentioned - that conditional payments should be automatic after 14 days but sometimes there are "technical glitches" that prevent it. She couldn't manually release the other weeks and said I'd have to wait for my interview. The whole system feels completely random right now. I've seen people in Facebook groups reporting the same issue - getting partial conditional payments instead of all their pending weeks. It's like EDD's system is playing some kind of lottery with our benefits. Really hoping this gets resolved after our interviews because the financial stress is overwhelming!

Your situation sounds exactly like what my husband is going through! It's so frustrating that there's no rhyme or reason to which weeks get the conditional payments. The fact that they paid your 1st and 3rd weeks but not 2nd and 4th makes it clear this isn't following any logical pattern - it really does feel like a lottery system. I'm starting to think there might be some major bug in their conditional payment processing that they're not acknowledging. The "technical glitches" excuse is getting old when it's affecting so many people in the same way. Hopefully both our interviews next week will clear up all these pending weeks once and for all!

I'm going through this exact same nightmare right now! Filed in late January and have been waiting 3 weeks for my eligibility interview. Had 5 weeks pending and they randomly paid me for 2 of them conditionally - weeks 1 and 4, but left 2, 3, and 5 still pending. It makes absolutely zero sense! What's really infuriating is that I called EDD twice and got two completely different explanations. First rep said conditional payments are processed in batches and the other weeks would come "soon." Second rep said there might be flags on certain weeks preventing conditional payment but couldn't tell me what those flags were or how to resolve them. I've been tracking this issue on social media and it seems like EDD's conditional payment system has been completely broken since their last system update in January. Some people get all weeks paid, others get random weeks paid, and some get nothing at all despite meeting the 14-day requirement. The stress of not knowing which weeks will get paid (or when) while bills are piling up is honestly worse than just having everything pending. At least then you know where you stand! This partial payment lottery system they've created is cruel. Really hope your husband's March 10th interview clears everything up. Please keep us posted on how it goes!

This is absolutely insane - getting two completely different explanations from EDD reps just shows how broken their internal communication is! The fact that they can't even agree on what's causing the conditional payment issues or how to fix them is mind-blowing. Your experience with weeks 1 and 4 getting paid while 2, 3, and 5 stay pending is the perfect example of how random this has become. I'm starting to think they have some major backend system corruption that they're either not aware of or not admitting to. The "batch processing" and "mysterious flags" excuses are just ways to avoid saying "we don't know why our system is broken." Thanks for sharing your experience and tracking this on social media - it's helpful to know this is widespread and not just isolated cases!

I'm experiencing the exact same issue and it's incredibly frustrating! Filed in early February after losing my restaurant job, and I've been waiting for my eligibility interview scheduled for March 12th. Out of 4 pending weeks, EDD only released conditional payment for the very first week - the other 3 are still stuck in pending despite being there for over 2 weeks now. What's really bothering me is the complete lack of transparency from EDD about how their conditional payment system actually works. The 14-day rule seems to be more of a suggestion than an actual policy at this point. I've seen so many people in the same boat - getting random weeks paid conditionally while others remain stuck. I called twice and got completely different responses each time. One rep said the system processes conditional payments in "waves" and to wait another week. The other rep mentioned something about certain weeks needing "additional verification" but couldn't explain what that meant or why some weeks would need it while others don't. The financial stress of not knowing when (or if) these pending weeks will get resolved is overwhelming. I'm hoping the interview next week will clear everything up, but it's frustrating that we have to wait that long when conditional payments were supposed to bridge this gap. Keep us updated on how your husband's March 10th interview goes!

This whole situation is just heartbreaking to read about - so many of us dealing with the exact same broken system! The "waves" and "additional verification" explanations you got are just more examples of EDD reps making up answers because they clearly don't understand their own system. It's outrageous that we're all having to wait for interviews to get basic conditional payments that should be automatic. The fact that your restaurant job loss happened in February and you're still dealing with this mess shows how badly EDD is failing people who need help the most. I really hope your March 12th interview goes smoothly and gets all your weeks released. This whole thread has been so helpful in showing that we're not alone in this nightmare - thank you for sharing your experience!

I'm dealing with this exact same conditional payment nightmare right now and reading through all these experiences is both validating and infuriating! Filed in mid-February after getting laid off from my tech job, and I have my eligibility interview scheduled for March 18th. Out of my 3 pending weeks, they only paid me conditionally for the middle week - not the first or most recent one, which makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever. What really gets me is how EDD keeps saying conditional payments are "automatic" after 14 days, but clearly their system is completely broken. I've called three times and gotten three different explanations: system glitches, batch processing delays, and some mysterious "verification holds" that no one can actually explain. The worst part is the unpredictability. You can't budget or plan when you don't know if you'll get paid for weeks that should qualify for conditional payments. It's like they're running some kind of random number generator to decide which weeks get paid! I'm documenting everything for when I hopefully get through to a supervisor who can actually fix this mess. Connor, I really hope your husband's March 10th interview resolves everything. This whole thread shows just how widespread this problem has become - EDD needs to acknowledge that their conditional payment system is fundamentally broken and stop giving people the runaround!

Miguel, your experience with them paying only the MIDDLE week is probably the most bizarre pattern I've seen yet! At least with others getting first weeks or random combinations, there was some kind of logic you could try to guess at, but paying just the middle week defies any reasonable explanation. The fact that you've called three times and gotten three completely different answers really shows that even EDD staff have no clue how their own system works. Documenting everything is smart - hopefully when you do get to a supervisor they can actually see the pattern of how broken this has become. It's honestly shocking that a system designed to help people during unemployment is causing this much additional stress and confusion. Thanks for sharing your experience and adding to the evidence that this isn't just isolated cases but a massive systemic failure!

I'm going through the exact same conditional payment mess and it's absolutely maddening! Filed in late January after my hospitality job ended, and I've been waiting for my eligibility interview scheduled for March 14th. Out of 4 pending weeks, EDD randomly decided to pay me conditionally for weeks 1 and 3, but left weeks 2 and 4 still pending with no explanation. What really drives me crazy is that I called EDD last week and the rep told me that conditional payments are processed by an "automated system" that sometimes has "temporary delays." When I asked why the delays would affect some weeks but not others from the same claim, she couldn't give me any logical answer - just kept repeating that the system "processes in its own timeframe." The inconsistency is the worst part. Reading through all these comments, it's clear that EDD's conditional payment system is completely broken right now. Some people get all weeks paid, others get random selections, and the explanations from reps are all over the place. It feels like they're just making stuff up because nobody actually understands how the system works anymore. Connor, I really hope your husband's March 10th interview clears up those pending weeks. This thread has been so helpful in showing that we're definitely not alone in dealing with this broken system. The financial stress of not knowing which weeks will get paid (or when) while waiting for interviews is honestly cruel. EDD really needs to fix this mess!

Amara, your situation with weeks 1 and 3 getting paid while 2 and 4 stay pending is exactly the kind of randomness that shows how broken this system really is! The "automated system with temporary delays" explanation is just corporate speak for "we have no idea why our system is malfunctioning." It's incredibly frustrating that EDD reps keep giving these vague non-answers when so many of us are dealing with the same issue. What really bothers me is that this conditional payment system was supposed to make things EASIER for people waiting for interviews, but instead it's created this whole new layer of stress and confusion. At least when everything was just pending, you knew where you stood. Now we're all playing this horrible lottery wondering which weeks will randomly get paid. I'm definitely going to mention this thread and all these similar experiences during my husband's interview on March 10th. Maybe if enough of us document how widespread this problem is, EDD will finally acknowledge that their system needs serious fixing. Thanks for sharing your experience - it really helps to know we're not going crazy and this is happening to so many people!
