Can't find my EDD account number on UI Online - where is it located?

I'm totally confused trying to find my EDD Customer Account Number (CAN) on the UI Online website. I need it to verify my identity with a representative over the phone, but I've been clicking around for 30 minutes and can't locate it anywhere in my account. I've checked under 'Profile', 'Contact Information', and even 'Claim History' but nothing shows my account number. Is it hidden somewhere specific on the website? Or do I have to wait for some paper document to arrive in the mail? Any help would be really appreciated!

they dont put it on the website for security i think. check ur original paperwork when u applied or look at any letters they sent u, usually has it at the top

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately I applied online and opted for paperless communication. I haven't received any physical mail from them yet. Is there any other way to get my account number without waiting for mail?

Your EDD Customer Account Number (CAN) isn't displayed in your UI Online account for security reasons. You can find it on any correspondence EDD has sent you, including your award letter, determination notices, or any other official EDD mail. If you've gone paperless, check your UI Online inbox for PDF documents - the number is usually in the top right corner of official notices and starts with a specific format like X-XXXX-XXX. If you can't find it anywhere, you'll need to contact EDD directly to request it. Just be prepared for identity verification questions when you call.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I found an eligibility notice in my UI Online inbox and you're right - the account number was right at the top. I completely overlooked those PDFs. Really appreciate your help!

Same thing happened to me last month!! The account number is weirdly NOT on the website interface at all. Check your inbox messages like the other person said.

Just to add one more option - if you received your EDD debit card (the Money Network card), sometimes the account number is referenced in the materials that came with it. Also, if you're trying to reach an EDD rep but can't get through, I recently used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected right away instead of dealing with busy signals all day. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. It saved me hours of frustration when I needed to verify some information about my claim.

is claimyr legit tho?? im always paranoid about giving info to third party sites for unemployment stuff

THE EDD SYSTEM IS SO STUPID!!! Why would they NOT put your account number somewhere on the actual account website?? This is the kind of nonsense that makes dealing with unemployment so frustrating. They expect you to keep every piece of paper they ever sent you just to find basic information that SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE ONLINE IN 2025! I've been dealing with these idiots for months and every simple thing is made complicated.

When I was on unemployment last year, I had the exact same problem. I ended up having to wait for my next certification confirmation to come through email, which had my account number on it. If you've already certified at least once, check those emails too. The account number format is usually something like X-XXXX-XXX or XX-XXXXX (I forget exactly). Also, if you've set up direct deposit, sometimes the confirmation notice for that has your account number on it. Hope that helps!

That's a great tip about checking the certification confirmation emails - I'll look there too. I have set up direct deposit so I'll check that confirmation as well. Thanks!

my sister had this same problem last week lol. she ended up just calling EDD and they verified her identity another way and then told her the account number over the phone. took like 2 hours on hold tho

For anyone else finding this thread later - there are exactly four places where you can find your EDD Customer Account Number: 1. UI Online inbox documents (award letters, determinations, etc.) 2. Any physical mail from EDD (top right corner) 3. The paper that came with your Money Network debit card 4. Your benefit year award notice (specifically) The account number is intentionally not displayed in the regular UI Online interface for security purposes, so you'll need to look at actual correspondence from EDD.

Thanks for summarizing this so clearly! This will definitely help others. I wish EDD would just put this information clearly on their website to save everyone the confusion.

I ran into this exact same issue when I first started my claim! It's so frustrating that something as basic as your account number isn't visible in the main dashboard. I eventually found mine in the "Determination" letter in my UI Online inbox - it was in a PDF I had totally ignored because I thought it was just generic info. Pro tip: if you're having trouble finding the right document in your inbox, look for anything with "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award" or "Monetary Determination" in the title. The account number is usually right at the top in a format like "Customer Account Number: 1234-567-8901". Once you find it the first time, I'd recommend screenshotting it or writing it down somewhere safe for future reference!

That's such a helpful tip about the "Determination" letter! I was scrolling through my inbox looking for anything that seemed important but honestly skipped over some of the more official-sounding documents thinking they were just boring legal stuff. Your suggestion to screenshot or write it down is really smart too - I can already tell I'm going to need this number again in the future. Thanks for the specific document titles to look for!

Just went through this exact same headache a few weeks ago! The UI Online interface is honestly terrible for finding basic info like this. I ended up finding my account number in the "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award" PDF in my inbox - it was literally the first document they sent me but I had completely overlooked it because it looked so official and boring. One thing I learned is that if you're ever on hold with EDD and need your account number quickly, they can actually verify your identity using other methods (SSN, address, etc.) and then give you the account number over the phone. Saved me from having to dig through documents when I was in a time crunch. But definitely save it somewhere once you find it - you'll need it again!

This is so helpful to know about the phone verification option! I was worried that without the account number I'd be completely stuck if I needed to call them. It's reassuring to know they have other ways to verify identity. I'm definitely going to save my account number once I find it - seems like it comes up pretty regularly when dealing with EDD. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I just want to echo what everyone else is saying - this is such a common problem and it's ridiculous that EDD makes it so hard to find basic account info! I went through the same exact thing when I first needed to call them. For what it's worth, I found mine in the very first email notification I got after applying - it was titled something like "Unemployment Insurance Application Received" and had my account number buried in the middle of all the text. I had completely glossed over it because it just looked like a generic confirmation email. One more tip: if you use Gmail or another email service with good search, try searching your email for "Customer Account Number" or just "Account Number" - that's how I eventually tracked mine down when I couldn't find the right document in my UI Online inbox. Good luck!

That Gmail search tip is genius! I never would have thought to search my regular email for EDD stuff since I assumed everything important would be in the UI Online inbox. Just tried searching "Customer Account Number" and found it in one of those early confirmation emails like you mentioned. It's crazy how they bury such important info in what looks like throwaway confirmation messages. Thanks for that search suggestion - definitely saving that trick for future reference!

This thread is so helpful! I had the exact same issue a couple months ago and spent forever looking for my account number. What worked for me was checking the very first document in my UI Online inbox - it was called "Unemployment Insurance Claim Filed" or something similar. The account number was right there at the top but I had totally missed it the first time I looked. One thing I'd add is that if you're still having trouble finding it, try logging out of UI Online completely and then logging back in. Sometimes when you first log in, they show you a summary page with more details that you might miss if you're already logged in and navigating around. Also, the account number format is usually like "1234-567-890" with dashes, so if you're scanning documents, look for that specific pattern. Hope this helps someone else avoid the same frustration!

0 coins

That's a really good point about logging out and back in! I never thought about how the initial login screen might show different information than when you're already navigating around inside the account. And you're absolutely right about looking for that specific number format with the dashes - it's so much easier to spot when you know exactly what pattern to look for. I was just randomly scanning text looking for anything that seemed like it could be an account number. Thanks for those practical tips!

Adding to all the great advice here - I just went through this same frustrating experience last month! What finally worked for me was checking the "Payment History" section in UI Online. Even though it doesn't show the account number directly on that page, when I clicked on one of my payment records, it opened a detailed payment notice PDF that had my Customer Account Number at the very top. I think the key thing everyone's pointing out is that EDD hides this number from the main interface but includes it on basically every official document they generate. So whether it's award letters, determination notices, payment confirmations, or even those automated "we received your certification" emails - they all seem to have it somewhere. It's just a matter of digging through the paperwork! Definitely agree with others about saving it once you find it. I put mine in my phone's notes app so I'd never have to go hunting for it again. The whole system could be so much more user-friendly if they just displayed it somewhere obvious in the account dashboard.

That's a great tip about checking the Payment History section! I never would have thought to look there for account information. It makes sense that the detailed payment PDFs would have all that info - I was just looking at the summary pages. Totally agree about the system being more user-friendly too. Like, why not just have a simple "Account Info" tab that shows your basic details including the account number? Seems like such an obvious thing to include in an online account portal. Thanks for sharing that payment history tip - definitely going to remember that one!

I just wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this thread! I was having the exact same problem and this conversation literally saved me hours of frustration. I found my account number in the "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award" PDF in my UI Online inbox, just like several people mentioned. It was sitting right there the whole time but I had completely overlooked it because the document title made it sound like generic paperwork. The Gmail search tip was also clutch - I searched "Customer Account Number" in my email and found it in multiple places I never would have thought to check. It's honestly ridiculous that EDD makes something so basic this hard to find, but at least now I know where to look. Screenshotted it and saved it in three different places so I never have to go through this again! For anyone else dealing with this - definitely check those official PDF documents in your UI Online inbox first. The account number is usually right at the top in a format like "Customer Account Number: XXXX-XXX-XXXX". Thanks again everyone for all the helpful suggestions!

So glad this thread helped you out! I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now and was getting super frustrated trying to navigate the UI Online site. Reading through all these responses has been a lifesaver - I never would have thought to check those PDF documents in the inbox or use the Gmail search trick. It's honestly mind-boggling that EDD doesn't just put the account number somewhere obvious on the main dashboard. Like, it's YOUR account number for YOUR account! Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and tips. Definitely going to try the "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award" document first and then work through the other suggestions if needed.

This is such a common issue and honestly one of the most frustrating things about the UI Online system! I went through this exact same problem when I first needed to call EDD about my claim. What worked for me was checking the "Inbox" section in UI Online and looking specifically for any document with "Award" or "Determination" in the title - those PDFs almost always have your Customer Account Number right at the top. If you've been doing paperless communication like me, also check your regular email inbox for any EDD notifications. Sometimes they include the account number in confirmation emails that you might have overlooked. The format is usually something like "1234-567-8901" with dashes, so that pattern is easier to spot when you're scanning through documents. One thing that really helped me was using my email's search function to look for "Customer Account Number" or "Account Number" - found it in several places I never would have thought to check! Once you find it, definitely save it somewhere safe because you'll probably need it again for future calls or verification. The whole system could be so much better designed, but at least there are ways to track it down if you know where to look!

This is such great advice about using the email search function! I never would have thought to search for those specific terms. I've been struggling with this same issue and was getting so frustrated clicking around the UI Online interface looking for something that apparently isn't even there. It's honestly crazy that they hide such basic account information - like, if I'm logged into MY account, why can't I just see my account number somewhere obvious? Thanks for the tip about the document titles with "Award" or "Determination" too - that gives me something specific to look for instead of just randomly opening PDFs hoping to find it. Definitely going to try the email search first since that sounds like the quickest way to track it down!

I just went through this same exact situation last week! The UI Online interface is so counterintuitive when it comes to finding basic account info. What finally worked for me was going to the "History" tab and then clicking on "Claim Summary" - there's a downloadable PDF there that has your Customer Account Number right at the top along with all your claim details. Also, if you've ever received any text message notifications from EDD (like when they confirm your weekly certification), sometimes those texts include your account number at the end. I found mine that way completely by accident when I was scrolling through old messages. The whole system is honestly designed like they don't want you to find your own information! But once you locate it, I'd recommend taking a screenshot and maybe even writing it down somewhere physical as a backup. You'll definitely need it again if you ever have to call their customer service line. Hope this helps save you some time and frustration!

That's a really helpful tip about checking the "Claim Summary" PDF in the History tab! I completely missed that section when I was looking around. And wow, I never would have thought to check old text messages for the account number - that's such a random place for them to include it but totally makes sense that they would. You're so right about the system being designed like they don't want you to find your own info - it's like they deliberately make everything as confusing as possible! Thanks for sharing those specific locations, especially the text message tip. That could be a real lifesaver for people who can't find it anywhere else.

I literally just dealt with this same frustrating issue yesterday! It's honestly ridiculous that EDD doesn't just display your account number somewhere obvious in the main account dashboard - like why is finding basic account info such a treasure hunt? What finally worked for me was going into my UI Online inbox and looking for the very first document I received after filing my claim. It was titled something like "Unemployment Insurance Claim Confirmation" and had my Customer Account Number right at the top in the format XXX-XXXX-XXX. I had completely ignored that document initially because it looked like just a generic "we got your application" message. Also, pro tip: if you use your phone to access UI Online, sometimes the mobile version displays information differently than the desktop site. I actually found it easier to spot the account number in the PDF documents when viewing them on my phone screen versus my computer. Once you find it, definitely save it in multiple places! I put mine in my phone contacts under "EDD Account Info" and also took a screenshot. You'll need this number basically every time you interact with EDD, so having it easily accessible will save you from going through this headache again. Good luck!

That's such a great point about the mobile vs desktop version potentially displaying things differently! I never would have thought to try switching between devices to see if the same information shows up better on one versus the other. And I love your tip about saving it in phone contacts under "EDD Account Info" - that's such a smart way to make sure you can find it quickly when you need it. You're absolutely right that you end up needing this number for basically every interaction with EDD, so having it stored somewhere easily accessible is genius. Thanks for sharing the specific document title to look for too - "Unemployment Insurance Claim Confirmation" is way more helpful than just "look for official documents." This whole thread has been such a lifesaver for anyone dealing with this common but super frustrating problem!

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now and was getting so frustrated trying to find my EDD account number. It's honestly mind-boggling that they don't just put it somewhere obvious on the main dashboard - like, it's literally YOUR account number for YOUR account! I'm going to try the suggestions about checking the "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award" in my UI Online inbox first, and then use the Gmail search trick for "Customer Account Number" if I can't find it there. The tip about looking for the XXX-XXXX-XXX format is really helpful too since I'll know exactly what to scan for. It's so reassuring to know that I'm not the only one who's struggled with this - the UI Online interface really is terribly designed when it comes to basic account information. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and specific tips about where to find it. Once I track mine down, I'm definitely following the advice to screenshot it and save it in multiple places so I never have to go through this headache again!

You're definitely not alone in this struggle! I went through the exact same frustrating experience a few months ago. The Gmail search trick is honestly a game-changer - I found my account number in like 3 different emails I had completely forgotten about. Also, don't feel bad about the UI Online interface being confusing - it's genuinely terrible design that they hide such basic info from the main dashboard. It's like they want to make everything as difficult as possible! Once you find your number, I'd also suggest writing it down somewhere physical as a backup to the screenshot, just in case. You'll probably need it again for future calls or verification, so having multiple ways to access it will save you tons of time later. Good luck with your search!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been dealing with this exact same issue for the past hour and was starting to think I was going crazy. It's absolutely ridiculous that EDD doesn't display your account number anywhere on the main UI Online dashboard - like, why make finding basic account info so unnecessarily complicated? I'm going to start with checking my UI Online inbox for those "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award" and "Determination" documents that everyone mentioned. The tip about using Gmail search for "Customer Account Number" is brilliant too - I never would have thought to search my regular email for EDD stuff since I assumed everything would be in the UI Online system. It's honestly so frustrating that they hide this information "for security reasons" but then put it on every single document they send you. Like, if I'm already logged into my verified account, why can't I just see my own account number? The whole system feels deliberately designed to waste your time. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and specific tips - this thread is going to save me so much frustration!

0 coins

I totally feel your frustration! I went through this exact same nightmare about a month ago and was convinced I was missing something obvious. The "security reasons" excuse is such BS when you're already logged into your own verified account - it's like they're trying to protect you from yourself! I ended up finding mine in one of those early confirmation emails from when I first applied, buried in a wall of text that looked like generic legalese. The Gmail search trick really is clutch though - try searching for variations like "CAN:" or "Customer Account" too since sometimes the formatting is slightly different. Once you find it, definitely save it everywhere because dealing with EDD is already stressful enough without having to play hide-and-seek with your own basic account info every time!

This whole thread is such a lifesaver! I literally just created my UI Online account yesterday and was already panicking about not being able to find my account number anywhere on the site. Reading through everyone's experiences makes me feel so much better - at least I know I'm not just completely missing something obvious! I'm definitely going to check my UI Online inbox first for those award/determination documents that everyone keeps mentioning, and then try the Gmail search trick if that doesn't work. It's honestly insane that in 2025 you can't just see your own account number in your account dashboard - like what kind of backwards security logic is that?? Thanks to everyone who shared specific document titles and search terms to look for. I'm bookmarking this thread because I have a feeling I'm going to need to reference it again. The EDD system sounds like a complete nightmare to navigate, so having all these workarounds in one place is incredibly helpful for newcomers like me!
