Can't find my EDD customer account number for baby bonding PFL claim - where is it on the letter?
I'm trying to set up my online account for my baby bonding PFL claim but I'm totally stuck because I can't find my customer account number! The EDD sent me some paperwork after I filed, but I'm staring at these letters and have no clue where the account number is located. Is it the same as my claim ID? There's a bunch of different numbers on these forms and I don't want to guess wrong and mess up my claim. This is my first time applying for baby bonding leave and I'm already feeling overwhelmed with the paperwork. Can someone please point me to exactly where on the EDD letter I should be looking? Thanks!

The EDD Customer Account Number (EDDCAN) should be on the top right corner of most correspondence from EDD. It's typically a 10-digit number starting with the first letter of your last name followed by 9 numbers. If you're looking at your claim approval letter for baby bonding, check the section that says "For Department Use" or sometimes it's labeled as "EDDCAN" directly. It's different from your claim ID or SSN.

•Thank you! I just checked the letter again and found it at the top right like you said. I totally missed it because I was looking for something that said "account number" specifically. Really appreciate the help!

Is this for the SDI Online account setup or something else? Because when I did my baby bonding last year, I got SO confused about this exact thing! I kept looking for an 'account number' when actually what I needed was my EDD Customer Account Number (EDDCAN) which is different. Also, double check if you already have an account from pregnancy disability - they use the same account for both!!! I spent days trying to create a new account when I already had one from my disability claim before the baby was born. The system doesn't tell you this clearly which is SO FRUSTRATING!!

•Yes! It's for the SDI Online setup! I didn't have pregnancy disability though, this is just for baby bonding. But that's really good info to know that they use the same account for both. The EDD website is so confusing!

•Glad it helps! Yeah the EDD website is THE WORST. I literally cried trying to figure it out while holding my newborn at 2am. Fun times!!!

my sister just had a baby and went through this whole process. she said the account number should be right after where it says EDDCAN on your letter. congratulations on your baby btw!

Just to provide some additional clarification: Your EDD Customer Account Number (EDDCAN) is what you need for creating or accessing your SDI Online account. It's the 10-digit identifier (letter + 9 numbers) on your claim documents. This is different from: - Your Claim ID (which is just for that specific claim) - Your Social Security Number - Your welcome letter confirmation number The EDDCAN is used for all your EDD claims, so keep it somewhere safe for future reference. For your baby bonding claim, you'll use this same account to certify for benefits every two weeks and check your payment status. Make sure you're also checking your physical mail and EDD inbox regularly, as they often send time-sensitive notices requiring action.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I found it and got my account set up. Do I need to certify for baby bonding every two weeks like unemployment? I thought it was just approved and then they pay you.

•Yes, for baby bonding PFL you do need to certify, but it works differently than unemployment. You'll typically receive a certification form after your claim is approved, and then again every two weeks during your benefit period. The form is simpler than unemployment certification - you're mainly confirming you're still bonding with your child and not working. If you've elected to take your 8 weeks of bonding time continuously, you'll have fewer certifications than if you're taking it intermittently.

If you're still having trouble finding your EDD account number or setting up your online access, try calling the EDD directly. I know getting through to them can be a nightmare - I spent 3 days trying to reach someone when I had issues with my baby bonding claim transition. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5. It really helped me get my account issues sorted quickly when I was desperate for answers about my claim status.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I already found it on the claim approval letter, but good to know it's on multiple documents.

The EDD is THE WORST at making anything clear!!!! When I did my baby bonding claim back in January they sent me THREE different letters with THREE different numbers and NOWHERE did it clearly say which one to use for the online account. I ended up trying all of them until one worked. Their system is designed to make us fail I swear.

One more thing to note about your EDD Customer Account Number: you'll need this for all future interactions with EDD, not just your current baby bonding claim. If you ever need to file for disability, unemployment, or another PFL claim in the future, you'll use the same EDDCAN. I recommend storing it somewhere secure but accessible, like in a password manager or in your important documents file. And since you mentioned this is your first time filing for baby bonding, make sure you understand that the 8 weeks of PFL can be used all at once or split up (intermittently) within the first 12 months of your child's birth. You'll need to specify this on your claim form, and if you choose intermittent leave, you'll need to provide a schedule of your planned leave dates.

•Thank you for the additional advice! I'm planning to take the 8 weeks continuously starting next month. I didn't realize I could split it up - that's good to know for the future. I've saved my EDDCAN in my password manager now.

Just wanted to add that if you're having trouble locating your EDDCAN on the paperwork, sometimes it helps to look for it under different names. I've seen it labeled as "Customer Account Number," "EDD Account Number," or just "Account Number" on different forms. Also, if you have the EDD mobile app, once you do find your EDDCAN and get logged in, it's way easier to use than the website for checking your claim status and payment info. The app actually works pretty well compared to their terrible website! Good luck with your baby bonding claim - it's such a wonderful benefit to have that time with your little one.

•This is really helpful! I didn't know about the mobile app - I'll definitely download that once I get my account fully set up. And you're right about the different labels for the account number, that's probably why I was so confused initially. I was looking for something that specifically said "EDDCAN" but it might have been under one of those other names. Thanks for the tip about the app being better than the website - the EDD website has been such a pain to navigate!

I went through this exact same confusion when I filed for baby bonding PFL last year! The EDD paperwork is so overwhelming, especially when you're already dealing with a new baby. Just wanted to echo what others have said - the EDDCAN is usually in the top right corner of your correspondence, and it's that 10-digit number starting with a letter. One thing that helped me was taking a photo of that number and saving it in my phone since you'll need it multiple times throughout the process. Also, don't stress too much about the online account setup - once you get past that initial hurdle, the rest of the process is much more straightforward. Congrats on your new little one!

•Thanks for the encouragement! Taking a photo of the number is such a smart idea - I wish I had thought of that earlier instead of constantly having to dig through the paperwork every time I needed it. You're right about the online setup being the hardest part. Now that I have my EDDCAN and got logged in, everything else seems much more manageable. It's reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same confusion! The whole process definitely feels less overwhelming when you know other parents have successfully navigated it too.

I had this exact same issue when I filed for my baby bonding claim a few months ago! The EDD Customer Account Number is definitely confusing to find at first. Like others mentioned, it's usually in the top right corner of your letters, but I also want to add that if you received multiple pieces of mail from EDD, check ALL of them because sometimes the EDDCAN is more prominent on one letter than another. I found mine clearest on the "Notice of Computation" letter rather than the initial approval letter. Also, pro tip: once you find it and get your SDI Online account set up, bookmark that login page because the EDD website is a maze and finding the login again can be just as frustrating! Hope this helps and congratulations on your new baby!

•This is such great advice about checking all the letters! I actually did receive multiple pieces of mail and you're absolutely right - the EDDCAN was much clearer on my Notice of Computation than it was on the first letter I looked at. And yes, bookmarking the login page is brilliant because I've already gotten lost on the EDD website trying to find it again. Thanks for the tip and the congratulations! It's so helpful to hear from other parents who've been through this process recently.
