Anyone getting accurate EDD claim processing times? 2-week timeline realistic?
I just submitted my new UI claim last Friday after getting laid off from my warehouse job (after 3 years - ugh). The confirmation page said processing takes approximately 2 weeks, but I'm getting anxious about bills coming due. For people who've filed claims recently in 2025, how long did it ACTUALLY take from application to approval? Are they sticking to that 2-week timeline or should I expect delays? My last experience with EDD was back in 2021 and it took over a month! Really hoping things have improved since then...

Filed in January and got my approval in exactly 15 days. Was surprised how accurate their estimate was tbh. The key was making sure I had ALL my employment info ready. My coworker who filed a week after me had to submit additional docs and his took almost 4 weeks. Make sure you're checking your UI Online inbox daily and responding to any requests immediately.

•That's really helpful, thanks! Did you have to do the ID.me verification too or was that already done from before?

•If you're having trouble reaching an EDD rep by phone, try Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in the same boat last month - calling for days with no luck. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Turns out my claim had a simple flag that needed to be removed. Once I finally spoke with someone, it moved to paid status within 48 hours.

The 2 week thing is BS!!! Mine took 3.5 weeks and I had to call them daily. They kept saying "we're processing a high volume of claims" which is what they ALWAYS say. BTW make sure you start your certifications on time even if your claim is still pending!!

•This is actually important advice about certifying on time. Your claim approval and certification are separate processes. Even if your claim is pending approval, you should still certify for benefits every two weeks as scheduled. If you wait until after approval to certify, you'll only get paid from when you started certifying, not from when you were eligible. The EDD system will show your certification schedule in UI Online regardless of claim status.

I filed my claim three weeks ago and just got approved yesterday. So about 3 weeks total for me. The interesting thing is that my UI Online account still showed "pending" until suddenly changing to "paid" yesterday morning. I never got any notification that I needed to provide additional info or anything. My advice is to be patient but check your UI Online account at least once a day. Also, make sure you've registered for your Money Network card in advance!

•That's good to know! Did you do anything special to make it go through or did it just happen automatically?

•It just happened automatically. I think having all my employment info correct from the start helped. One thing I did do was upload my last paystub through the document upload section, even though they didn't specifically ask for it. Not sure if that helped but it couldn't hurt.

my cousin filed in march and got approved in 10 days but then i filed in april and its been 3 weeks and nothing... i think it depends on if your employer responds quickly or not?? not sure tho

EDD claim processing times can vary significantly based on several factors: 1. Whether your identity has been previously verified through ID.me 2. If your employer responds promptly to EDD's verification request 3. Whether there are any eligibility issues that require manual review 4. If your work history is straightforward or complex (multiple employers, out-of-state work) 5. General claim volume at the time of filing The 2-week estimate is based on claims with no issues. In my experience assisting clients, about 60% of straightforward claims are processed within 2-3 weeks. Claims requiring additional review can take 4-6 weeks. I recommend checking your UI Online account daily, responding immediately to any communication, and ensuring your contact information is current. If you reach the 3-week mark with no movement, that's when I'd suggest trying to contact EDD for a status update.

•Thank you for such a detailed explanation! This makes me feel better about the timeline. I worked for the same employer for all 3 years and my separation was clearly due to layoffs, so hopefully mine will be straightforward. If I don't see any movement by next week, I'll try calling.

My cousin filed for unemployment and it took like 5 weeks but that's because he had worked in Nevada for part of his base period. Something about interstate claims taking longer. Where did you work before?

•I've only worked in California, so hopefully that means mine will be processed faster than your cousin's!

For most claimants who have straightforward employment histories and clear separation reasons (like layoffs), the 2-week processing time is fairly accurate in 2025. The EDD has made significant improvements to their automated systems compared to the pandemic era. However, certain factors can extend this timeline: 1. If you've received any severance pay that needs review 2. If your employer contests your claim 3. If you've had multiple employers during your base period 4. If there are wage discrepancies between what you reported and what's on record One tip: after you file your claim, you should receive a "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Claim Filed" (DE 1101 form) within about 10 days. This is a good indicator that your claim is processing normally. If you don't receive this within 10 days, that could indicate a delay.

•I did get a severance package (4 weeks of pay). Should I be expecting a delay because of that? I reported it on my application.

•Reporting your severance was absolutely the right thing to do. Yes, this might add some processing time as the EDD will need to determine when your benefits should begin relative to your severance period. Typically, they'll delay the start of your benefit payments until after your severance period ends, but they should still process and approve your claim in the meantime. Your UI Online account should show your claim status even while you're in the severance period.

Quick update from my experience - I mentioned earlier that my claim was approved after 3 weeks. I just wanted to add that the first payment hit my Money Network card exactly 2 days after approval. So make sure you've set up that Money Network account as soon as you get the notification! The card takes about a week to arrive in the mail, but you can start using it electronically through their app before the physical card arrives.

•Thanks for coming back to share this! I'll make sure to set up the Money Network account right away once I get that notification.

Just wanted to add my recent experience - filed my UI claim on March 15th after being laid off from my retail job. Got approved yesterday (March 28th) so exactly 13 days, which was actually faster than their 2-week estimate! I think what helped was that I had all my documents ready and my employer didn't contest it. The key things I did: checked UI Online daily, responded to one request for additional wage verification within 24 hours, and started my certifications immediately even while pending. Already set up my Money Network card too. Seems like if you have a straightforward case with no complications, they're actually meeting or beating their timeline estimates in 2025. Hope this helps ease some anxiety!

•This is so encouraging to hear! I filed on Friday (just like you mentioned in your timeline) and I'm hoping for a similar experience. Did you have to do the ID.me verification or was that already set up from before? Also, when you say you responded to the wage verification request within 24 hours - was that through the UI Online message center or did they email you separately?

Just wanted to share my recent experience as another data point! Filed my claim on March 22nd after being laid off from my tech support job. Got my approval notification this morning (March 29th) - so exactly 7 days! I was honestly shocked because I was expecting the full 2 weeks. My situation was pretty straightforward though - single employer for 2+ years, clear layoff documentation, and I had already done the ID.me verification last year when I helped my sister with her claim. I think having that ID verification already done might have sped things up? Also made sure to upload my final paystub and layoff letter right when I filed, even though they didn't specifically request them yet. Currently waiting for my Money Network card info to set that up. Seems like 2025 processing times are much better than the horror stories from 2020-2021!

•Wow, 7 days is amazing! That gives me so much hope since I just filed last Friday too. I'm kicking myself now because I didn't think to upload my layoff letter and final paystub right away like you did. Do you think it's too late to upload them now through the document section? Also, I haven't done ID.me verification yet - did you have to do anything special for that or does it just prompt you automatically when needed? Your timeline is exactly what I'm hoping for!
