Lost EDD account number - how to recover or contact someone at EDD?

I lost access to my EDD account number and I'm not sure how to get it back. Has anyone else dealt with this? I've been trying to call them but it's impossible to get through. Any advice on how to recover my account number or speak to someone at EDD?

I heard they're updating their systems soon. Maybe wait a few weeks and try again? Might save you some headache.

Source? Haven't seen anything about system updates.

Just something I heard from a friend who works there. Could be wrong tho, my bad if so.

I went through this exact same nightmare last month! What finally worked for me was calling the 1-800-300-5616 number repeatedly using redial until I got through (took about 200+ attempts over 3 days). When I finally got a human, they were able to look up my account number using my SSN and date of birth. Another trick - try calling right at 8am when they open, that's when you have the best shot. Also keep any old benefit payment stubs or mail from EDD as backup - your account number is usually printed on those documents. Don't give up, it's incredibly frustrating but you'll get there!

Interstate claim confusion - applied for EDD after moving back from Iowa

OK so I'm super confused about how to handle my unemployment situation. I moved to Iowa last year for a job opportunity (manufacturing sector) that seemed promising but the company downsized after about 13 months and I got laid off. I decided to move back to California since my family is here and the cost of living was actually getting pretty high there too. It's been 3 weeks and I haven't found work yet despite applying everywhere. My savings are getting low and I need to file for unemployment, but I don't know if I should file here in California or if I have to go through Iowa's system since that's where I was working? Their website is so confusing and when I called their unemployment office, I got disconnected twice. Does anyone know how this works with interstate claims? Do I apply through California EDD or Iowa Workforce Development? I paid into the system for 4 years in CA before moving to Iowa if that makes any difference. Thanks for any help!!

One more important thing: if you do file an interstate claim through California, make sure to follow up if you don't hear anything after 2-3 weeks. Interstate claims often get stuck in processing because the two states have to communicate with each other. Sometimes you need to call and give them a nudge to check on the status. Just be persistent!

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely keep an eye on it and follow up. Really appreciate all the help from everyone here.

Just want to add that you should also gather all your documentation before filing - pay stubs from Iowa, your separation notice/termination letter, and any correspondence about the layoff. Interstate claims require more documentation than regular claims, and having everything ready upfront will help speed up the process. Also, if you had any vacation pay or severance from your Iowa employer, make sure to report that accurately as it could affect when your benefits start. Good luck with your claim!

Last payment stuck in pending after reporting work - how long for EDD to issue final check?

Seems like I'm at the end of my unemployment journey (thankfully found work!) but now I'm stuck waiting on my final payment. I certified for these last two weeks on Sunday - first week I had zero work hours, but for the second week I reported my new job and all my earnings like they ask. My payment for both weeks is showing as 'pending' in the system instead of 'paid' like usual. Is this normal when you report work for the first time? Does anyone know how long EDD typically takes to process your final payment when you start working again? I've got some bills coming due and was really counting on this last check coming through on time.

my friend had this happen and she was NEVER PAID for her last 2 weeks!!! she called and called and eventually gave up because she started her new job and didnt have time to waste on hold anymore. EDD just STOLE her money and there was nothing she could do!!! hope you have better luck but dont hold your breath!!!

While delays can certainly happen, it's extremely rare for EDD to never pay eligible benefits. Most likely, your friend either had an unresolved eligibility issue or there was some other complication with her claim. EDD doesn't simply "steal" money - they're obligated by law to pay eligible benefits, even if the process can be frustratingly slow sometimes.

I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago when I started my new job. The pending status is definitely normal - it's EDD's way of making sure everything checks out before they issue your final payment. In my case, it took about 12 days from certification to when the payment finally showed as "paid" in my account. A few tips that might help: Keep checking your UI Online account daily because sometimes the status changes without any notification. Also, if you have any documentation from your new employer (like your start date confirmation or first pay stub), keep those handy in case EDD asks for additional verification. The good news is that once it processes, you should get the full amount you're entitled to. For me, the first week (no work) came through at full benefit amount, and the second week was a partial payment based on my earnings that week. Hang in there - it's frustrating but the money will come through!

EDD account locked after phone number change - urgent help needed

So frustrated right now! I just changed my cell phone carrier last week (got a way better deal with T-Mobile) but now I can't log into my EDD account at all. When I try to sign in, it says they need to verify my identity by sending a code to my phone number on file - which is my OLD number that I don't have access to anymore! I've tried the "forgot password" option but it still wants to text my old number. I really need to certify for benefits this Sunday and I'm panicking. Has anyone dealt with this before? What's the quickest way to update my phone number when I can't even get into the system? Help!!

For everyone having this issue, here's the process EDD follows for security reasons: 1. Phone number changes MUST be verified by a representative (this is to prevent fraud) 2. You will need to provide multiple forms of identity verification 3. The representative needs to manually override the system security block 4. Once updated, you should receive an email confirmation (if you have email on file) 5. System updates generally process overnight, so you should be able to log in the next day If you need to certify urgently and can't access your account, ask the representative to note this in your file. In some cases, they can process your certification over the phone or provide a one-time override code to access your account. Also, while you're talking to them, make sure to verify ALL your contact information is current - not just your phone number but also mailing address and email.

Update: I finally got through! Used the Claimyr service that someone mentioned above and got connected to a rep in about 20 minutes. They were able to update my phone number after verifying my identity. Said I should be able to log in tomorrow morning to certify. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad to hear you got it resolved! For anyone else reading this thread who might face similar issues in the future, here are a few additional tips: 1) Always update your contact info with EDD BEFORE changing phone carriers if possible, 2) Keep your old phone active for at least a week after switching to handle any lingering 2FA issues with various accounts, and 3) Consider adding an email address as a backup recovery method in your EDD account settings once you regain access. Phone number changes are one of the most common reasons people get locked out of their accounts, so planning ahead can save a lot of stress!

EDD unemployment eligibility after 12 months on SDI - work history requirements?

I just finished collecting disability benefits through SDI for almost exactly 12 months (had a pretty serious back surgery + complications). My doctor finally cleared me to return to work, but I just found out yesterday that my position was eliminated during my leave. I'm trying to figure out if I can qualify for regular unemployment now. The problem is, do I have enough work history to qualify? Before my disability leave started, I was employed full-time for about 2.5 years at the same company, but obviously I haven't been working this past year while on SDI. Does EDD look at my work history before my SDI claim started? Or am I disqualified because I haven't technically "worked" for 12 months? I'm really stressed about this because my savings are almost gone after being on reduced income through disability, and I need to know if I can count on unemployment while job hunting. Anyone been through something similar?

Final update: My claim was approved! The weekly benefit amount is based on my earnings before SDI, just like you all said. They did schedule a phone interview, but it was just to confirm that I didn't quit and that my position was actually eliminated. One weird thing though - my claim is showing a "standard base period" rather than the alternate base period. Not sure if that's normal for transitioning from SDI to UI, but the amount seems correct based on what I was making before disability. Thanks everyone for your help! This has been such a stressful situation, and I'm relieved to have some income while I job hunt.

Great news! The standard base period is actually correct in your case. The alternate base period is only used when you don't qualify under the standard calculation. Since you had sufficient earnings in your standard base period (from before your SDI), that's what they used. Congratulations and good luck with your job search!

Congratulations on getting approved! Your story gives me hope as someone who might be facing a similar situation soon. I'm currently 8 months into an SDI claim for a knee replacement and complications, and my employer has been making hints about "restructuring" while I'm out. Quick question - when they scheduled the phone interview, how much notice did they give you? And did they ask for any specific documentation about the job elimination, or was your word sufficient? I'm trying to prepare for what might be coming if my job disappears too. Really glad things worked out for you after such a stressful year!
