I'm really stressed about my new unemployment claim. My previous benefits ran out in early June 2025, and I had to wait until November to reapply (not sure why the long wait). I finally submitted a new claim, but now my claim tracker shows 'some indications that I could not be eligible' and they scheduled a phone interview for 12/27. Between June and now, I worked for two different temp agencies. I left the first one because it was a hostile environment (seriously terrible situation!). The second temp agency only gave me work for a couple of days. Since then, I've been actively job hunting with no luck. Does anyone know if these short-term temp jobs will affect my new claim approval? Will leaving a hostile work environment count against me? I'm worried about the phone interview and don't understand why they're questioning my eligibility. This is my first time having to do a phone interview and I'm nervous about what to expect.
So I just got a Bank of America EDD debit card in the mail yesterday, which has me totally confused because I thought California EDD switched to Money Network cards a while back? I filed my claim about 3 weeks ago and was expecting the Money Network card they talk about on the EDD website. Did they switch back to BofA? Is this card even legitimate or is it some kind of scam? The letter looks official with EDD letterhead but I'm paranoid about identity theft these days. I'm afraid to activate it. Has anyone else received a BofA card recently instead of Money Network?
is the bofa card the one with the picture of the bear on it? i got one of those but thought it was fake lol
This thread has been really helpful! I'm actually in a similar situation - just received what looks like a legitimate BofA EDD card but was expecting Money Network. Based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like if you had a previous claim with a BofA card that's still valid, EDD's system automatically reuses it instead of issuing the new Money Network cards. For anyone else dealing with this: check your card's expiration date first - if it's from a previous claim and still valid, that's probably why you got BofA instead of Money Network. You can use it safely as long as your UI Online account shows "Debit Card" as your payment method. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences!
I'm seriously losing my mind trying to contact EDD. I've called the main number (1-800-300-5616) TWENTY-THREE times today. Every single time I get 'We're experiencing high call volume' and then it hangs up on me. I need to talk to someone because my certification is pending for some mysterious reason and I NEED this money for rent next week. I've tried calling at 8:01am, 10:30am, and just spamming calls after lunch. Nothing works. Does anyone have any actual working methods to get through? Secret phone numbers? Best times to call? I'm desperate here.
Update: I tried the Claimyr service that someone recommended here, and it actually worked! Got through to an EDD rep this morning. Turns out my claim was flagged for an eligibility review because my last employer contested it (even though I was laid off, not fired). The rep scheduled me for a phone interview next week and said my payments should release after that. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
Congratulations on finally getting through! That's such a relief. Your situation with the employer contest is actually pretty common - a lot of people don't realize that employers can dispute claims even for legitimate layoffs, which automatically triggers a review. The good news is that if you were truly laid off and have documentation (like a layoff notice or termination letter stating "lack of work"), the eligibility interview should go smoothly. Just make sure to have all your paperwork ready and be clear about the circumstances of your separation. The whole process is frustrating but at least now you're in the system and moving forward!
Finally finished serving my 10-week EDD penalty period for what they called a 'false statement' (I accidentally reported my gross income instead of net on ONE certification). Now I'm confused about what happens next. Do I just certify like normal for the next two weeks? Will I have to serve a one-week waiting period AGAIN even though I already did that at the beginning of my original claim? Or does the system immediately start paying me after I certify since I've already been penalized for 10 weeks? The EDD website is no help and calling is impossible. Just trying to budget so I know when money might actually hit my account.
I was working part-time while on unemployment and reported my gross income instead of net income on one certification. It was honestly just a mistake - I reported the amount on my paystub before taxes/deductions instead of after. Apparently that's considered a "false statement" even though I wasn't trying to cheat the system. Now I triple-check everything!
Just went through something similar recently! One thing I'd add is to make sure you have your bank account info updated and verified in your UI Online account before you certify. Sometimes after penalty periods, EDD will randomly flag accounts for additional identity verification or banking verification, which can delay payments even after you've served your time. Also, keep screenshots of your certification confirmations and payment history showing you completed all 10 penalty weeks. If there are any issues with your first payment, having that documentation ready can help speed up resolution. The EDD system isn't always great at tracking penalty completion automatically. Good luck getting back to regular payments - you've definitely earned it after 10 weeks of that nonsense!
I'm having a weird glitch with my bi-weekly certification this morning. I've completed all questions and selected 'No' for the 'Did you receive any other income based on work performed?' question, but when I get to the review page before submitting, that specific question shows up as unanswered! I've tried logging out and back in, cleared my browser cache, and even attempted on both my laptop and phone but getting the same issue. The system won't let me proceed because it thinks I skipped a question that I definitely answered. Anyone else experiencing this certification glitch today? My benefits are already delayed from a previous issue and I really can't afford another week without payment.
Update for anyone with the same issue: I got my certification to go through using the workaround that @profile2 suggested (clicking next to the radio button rather than on it). After submitting, I got the confirmation page right away, and my payment is now showing as pending in the portal. Hopefully it processes normally from here! Thanks everyone for your help.
I just ran into this exact same issue about an hour ago! The workaround with clicking next to the radio button instead of directly on it totally saved me. It's such a bizarre glitch - makes you wonder how many people get stuck on this and just give up trying to certify. Really hope EDD gets this fixed soon because missing certification deadlines over a website bug is incredibly stressful when you're depending on these benefits. Thanks to everyone who shared solutions!

Hey Sofia! I went through a similar situation a few months ago with temp work and an EDD interview. Just wanted to add that when they ask about your job search efforts since leaving those temp positions, definitely mention those 20+ applications you've been submitting - it shows you're actively seeking work which is a requirement for benefits. Also, if you have any email confirmations from job applications or responses from employers, keep those handy. Sometimes they ask for proof of your job search activity during the interview. The fact that you've been consistently looking for work since the temp jobs ended really supports your case. One more tip - write down a timeline of events before your interview (dates you started/left each temp job, when you reported the hostile environment, etc.). Having everything organized will help you stay focused during the call. You've got this!
