PFL payment missing for FMLA leave dates 2/10-2/16 - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I was on FMLA leave and was supposed to get PFL (Paid Family Leave) for the dates 2/10 to 2/16. The thing is, I didn't receive any payment for those days. I had a vacation planned during that time, but since I was on FMLA, I didn't get paid for it. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Any advice on how to handle it when I call them?

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready before you call. You'll need to explain that you were on approved FMLA and expected PFL payment for those specific dates. Be prepared for them to ask for additional documents. Good luck!

ā¢Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely gather all my docs before calling. Any specific papers you think I should have on hand?

ā¢Np! I'd say have your FMLA approval letter, any PFL claim forms you submitted, and paystubs from before and after your leave. Oh, and any communication you've had with HR about it. Better to have too much than not enough!

I swear, the system is designed to be confusing on purpose š FMLA is unpaid leave, but PFL should cover you if you filed correctly. Did you submit all the necessary paperwork for PFL?

This happened to me last year! It turned out to be a processing error on their end. I had to call multiple times and escalate to a supervisor before it got sorted out. Don't give up!

ā¢Oh man, that sounds like a headache. How long did it take to get resolved?

ā¢It took about 3 weeks of back-and-forth calls. Keep detailed notes of every convo, including names and dates. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

Here's what you need to know about PFL and FMLA: ⢠FMLA is unpaid, job-protected leave ⢠PFL provides partial wage replacement ⢠You can receive PFL benefits while on FMLA ⢠PFL is administered by the state, while FMLA is a federal program ⢠Make sure your employer properly designated your leave as both FMLA and PFL ⢠Check if there's a waiting period for PFL in your state ⢠Some states require you to use accrued paid leave before PFL kicks in When you call, ask specifically about the status of your PFL claim for those dates. If they say it wasn't processed, ask why and what you need to do to get it approved retroactively. Don't let them brush you off!

Oof, dealing with PFL can be a real pain. I found a method to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

ā¢Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

ā¢Totally get the skepticism, but it's legit. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny when you're dealing with time-sensitive stuff like this.

ā¢How does it work exactly? Do they just keep calling until they get through?

ā¢Yeah, basically. They have a system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold. When a real person answers, it calls you. No more mind-numbing hold music! šµš«

This is why I always tell ppl to keep a paper trail of EVERYTHING. Emails, forms, even screenshots of online submissions. The bureaucracy is real, y'all ššš

I went through something similar last year! The key thing is to be really specific when you call - don't just say "I didn't get paid." Tell them exactly: "I was on approved FMLA leave from 2/10-2/16, submitted my PFL claim properly, but received zero payment for those dates." Also ask them to check if your claim was processed at all or if it got stuck somewhere in the system. Sometimes they'll say it was "under review" and never actually got processed. If the first person can't help, politely ask to speak with someone who handles PFL claim discrepancies specifically. You got this! šŖ
