Need to extend PFL from 2 weeks to 1 month - advice needed!
Hey everyone, I need some advice. I'm currently on Paid Family Leave for 2 weeks, but I'm realizing I need to extend it to a full month. Has anyone gone through this process before? What should I expect when I call to request an extension? Any tips or things I should be aware of? Thanks in advance for your help!

I've been through this before. It's not too complicated, but you gotta be prepared. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the PFL office ASAP. Don't wait until the last minute. 2. Have a good reason ready. They might ask why you need the extension. 3. Get a note from your doctor if possible. This can really help your case. 4. Be polite but firm. Sometimes you gotta push a little to get what you need. 5. Keep all your paperwork organized. They might ask for additional docs. 6. Follow up if you don't hear back within a week. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

•Quick question - do you know if theres a limit to how many times you can extend? I might need to do this soon too

•@profile 3 I think it depends on your situation and the state you're in. In my experience, they were pretty flexible as long as I had good documentation. But def check with the PFL office directly!

ugh good luck dealing with the bureaucracy. I tried to extend mine and it was a nightmare. Spent hours on hold and got nowhere 🤮

•Same here! Its like they make it difficult on purpose. The whole system needs an overhaul tbh

•Guys, I found a way to skip the hold times! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then calls you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•@profile 7 Yep, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it worked like a charm. Saved me from pulling my hair out lol

•@profile 8 I get it, but think about how much your time is worth. For me, not having to sit on hold for hours was totally worth it. To each their own tho!

Have you considered talking to your employer first? Sometimes they can be more flexible than you'd think. might save you some hassle with the PFL office

whatever you do, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Keep a log of who you talked to, when, and what they said. Trust me, itll save your butt if theres any confusion later

•I think it mostly affects new claims, not extensions. But don't quote me on that lol. The govt websites are so confusing 🤔

pro tip: if you can, try calling right when they open. I always have better luck getting through early in the morning
