How to check SDI claim approval status and get disability insurance info?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to check on my existing claim and get some info about disability insurance. Has anyone gone through this process recently? I'm not sure if my claim has been approved yet and I'm getting a bit anxious. Any tips on how to confirm the approval or what I should know about disability insurance would be really helpful!

I just went through this last month! It can be pretty confusing, but here's what I learned: • First, check your online account if you have one. Sometimes the status is updated there before you get any mail. • If you can't find info online, try calling the disability insurance office directly. Be prepared for a long wait time though. • Make sure you have all your claim numbers and personal info ready when you call. • Ask about the timeline for approval and when you can expect to receive benefits. • Don't forget to ask about any additional documentation they might need from you or your doctor. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

•Thank you so much for this detailed response! 🙏 I'll definitely check my online account first. Do you remember how long it took for your claim to be approved?

•No problem! Happy to help. For me, it took about 3 weeks from when I submitted everything to when I got the approval. But I've heard it can vary a lot depending on how busy they are and if they need any additional info.

•This is great advice! I'd also add that its important to keep copies of EVERYTHING you submit. The system can be a real 🤡 show sometimes and you dont want to lose any important docs.

Ugh, good luck dealing with the disability office. I've been waiting for 2 months and still haven't heard anything back. It's like they're playing hide and seek with our claims 🙄

•Same boat here. Its ridiculous how long they make us wait. Have you tried calling them?

•Yeah, I've called like 5 times. Each time they just tell me to 'be patient' and that they're 'processing claims as fast as they can'. Starting to feel like I'm talking to a brick wall 🧱

•Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. I finally got through that way and actually got some helpful info!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

•20 bucks to skip the hold time? Sign me up! 💸 Our time is worth more than that anyway.

Just a heads up, make sure you understand the difference between State Disability Insurance (SDI) and long-term disability insurance if you have it through your employer. They're two different things and the processes can be pretty different.

has anyone else noticed that the online system is always down for 'maintenance' whenever you actually need to use it? 🤔 I swear they do it on purpose lol

•omg yes! 😂 It's like they know exactly when I'm gonna try to log in. Murphy's law of government websites I guess

Quick question for the OP - how long ago did you submit your claim? Might help to know so we can give you a better idea of what to expect.

•I submitted it about 4 weeks ago. Starting to get worried because I haven't heard anything back yet.

•4 weeks isn't too bad actually. I'd give it another week or two before really starting to worry. But definitely try calling if you haven't already!

Hey! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now. One thing that helped me was setting up text alerts through the EDD website if you haven't already - they'll send you updates when there's any change to your claim status. Also, if you have a doctor involved in your claim, sometimes they can provide updates on whether EDD has requested additional medical documentation. I know the waiting is stressful, but hang in there! The system is slow but it does work eventually. Keep all your confirmation numbers and reference materials handy for when you do get through to someone.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't know about the text alerts - that sounds like a game changer. How do you set those up exactly? I've been checking my account manually every day like a crazy person 😅 Also good point about the doctor - I should probably touch base with them to see if EDD has reached out for anything additional.
