EDD website now showing PFL claim status online? Big change from last year?
Anyone else notice EDD actually updated their system?? I took 6 weeks of baby bonding leave last April after my daughter was born, and back then I had to wait FOREVER for a letter in the mail to know if my claim was approved. Super frustrating. Now I'm applying for my remaining 2 weeks of PFL (just filed yesterday) and I'm shocked that I can actually see the status online! When did this change happen? The website shows my claim status, estimated payment amount ($1,250/week), and even gives an estimated processing timeline. Is this new for everyone or did I just miss this feature before? Would have made my life so much easier last year!

Yes! They rolled out updates to the UI Online portal in late 2024. The new claim status tracking features were part of a larger system upgrade. It used to be completely ridiculous - file a claim and then just wait blindly for weeks with no visibility. I went through that nightmare with my first baby in 2023. The upgraded system now shows: - Claim status (pending/approved/denied) - Estimated weekly benefit amount - Processing timeline - Any missing documentation It's a HUGE improvement from the old system where you had to constantly call or wait for mail. Still not perfect, but at least now we can actually see what's happening with our claims!

•That explains it! What a relief to not have to go through the mail waiting game again. Do you know if they fixed that weird gap issue between SDI and PFL? Last time I had to call like 20 times to fix the transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding.

•The system has been gradually updating since last fall. I work in HR and have been helping employees with maternity leave claims. The full status tracking features went live in December, but they've been adding functionality in phases. Some people had partial access earlier depending on claim type. They prioritized baby bonding PFL claims for the updates since those were causing the most customer service calls.

They definitely changed it! I remember calling EDD literally 47 times when I filed for my PFL claim in June 2024 because there was NO way to check status online. Their old system was from like 1995 I swear. But here's a tip if you still need to talk to someone (because let's be real, the website will probably break at some point): I used Claimyr to get through to an EDD agent in like 20 minutes instead of spending all day hitting redial. Their video shows how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 Saved my sanity when I had to fix an issue with my last certification. The website is claimyr.com if you need it. Definitely worth it if you're trying to reach EDD about your baby bonding claim!

•Does that service actually work? I'm suspicious of anything claiming to get through to EDD easily... I've wasted HOURS of my life listening to that hold music only to get disconnected.

The online status checking is new but DON'T TRUST IT!!! My claim showed "approved" for 3 weeks but I never got paid. When I finally got through to someone they said there was a "system flag" that the website didn't show. THE SYSTEM IS STILL BROKEN. Always call to verify anything important, don't just trust what the website says.

I filed my baby bonding PFL claim in February 2025 and could see the status online then, so it's been working for at least a few months. The online system is definitely an improvement over the old mail-only approach, but be careful about relying on it completely. One important tip: even with the online status checking, you should still monitor your mail and email. Some critical notices only come through those channels, especially if there are issues with your claim. I had a situation where the website showed everything was fine, but they mailed me a request for additional documentation that I almost missed. Also, the transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding still requires a separate application process. Make sure you complete form DE2501F for disability (pregnancy) and then DE2508 for PFL (bonding). The website won't automatically transition you from one to the other.

•Thanks for the warning about checking mail too! Just checked my mailbox and sure enough there was something from EDD that I almost missed. Looks like they sent a confirmation letter even though I can see everything online.

Just a quick update - I called EDD using that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier, and the rep confirmed they've been rolling out these online features gradually over the past 6 months. She said by June 2025 they'll have even more features active including the ability to upload additional documents directly through the portal instead of faxing/mailing them. Apparently, the funding for these upgrades was approved in late 2023, but it took a while to implement. Tech moves slowly in government!

•LOLOL "tech moves slowly in government" is the understatement of the century!! 🤣 They're finally catching up to where private companies were in like 2010. Only took them 15 YEARS! Still can't believe how many trees they've killed with their obsession with paper forms.

One more thing to be aware of: while the online status features are helpful, there are still some limitations. The system updates overnight in batches, not in real-time. So if something changes with your claim during the day, you won't see it reflected online until the next day. Also, for those transitioning from pregnancy disability (SDI) to baby bonding (PFL), you still need to submit a separate PFL application. The system won't automatically roll you from one program to the other, even though they're both administered by EDD. Make sure you submit your baby bonding claim (DE2508) before your SDI benefits end to avoid any gap in payments.

•That's exactly what happened with my first claim! Had a 2-week gap where I got no benefits because I didn't know I needed to file the PFL claim before my disability ended. Wish they made that clearer in their instructions.

This is so helpful to read everyone's experiences! I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and planning to take both pregnancy disability and baby bonding leave. Reading this thread makes me feel way more prepared than I was with my first baby in 2022 when I had NO idea what I was doing with EDD. Quick question for those who've used the new online system - does it show your remaining benefit balance clearly? Like if I'm entitled to 8 weeks of baby bonding but only use 6 weeks initially, will I be able to see that I still have 2 weeks left for later use? With my first, I never used my full entitlement and had no clue how much I had left until it was too late. Also @Omar Farouk thanks for that tip about the overnight batch updates - that explains why I've seen some delays when checking claim status on other state benefit sites!

•Yes! The new system does show your remaining balance pretty clearly. I just checked mine yesterday and it breaks down how many weeks you've used vs. your total entitlement. It shows something like "4 weeks used of 8 weeks available" for baby bonding. One thing to keep in mind though - you have to use your remaining PFL time within 12 months of your baby's birth, so don't wait too long! I learned that the hard way and almost lost my remaining 2 weeks. The website will show an expiration date for your unused benefits which is super helpful. Sounds like you're way more on top of this than most people are for their first time around. The combination of being able to see everything online plus reading experiences here should make the whole process much smoother for you!

This is amazing timing! I'm currently dealing with EDD for the first time (just had my baby 3 weeks ago) and was dreading the whole process based on horror stories from friends. But seeing that I can actually track my claim status online is such a relief! Just submitted my baby bonding PFL application yesterday and I can already see it's "under review" with an estimated processing time of 2-3 weeks. This is SO much better than the old system where you'd just submit paperwork into the void and pray. One question though - for those who've been through this recently, how accurate are those estimated processing timelines? Should I expect it to actually take 2-3 weeks or is that just a rough estimate? I'm trying to plan my finances around when the payments might start coming in. Also really appreciate all the tips about checking mail/email even with the online system and making sure to file the PFL claim before disability ends. This community is incredibly helpful for navigating all this bureaucracy!

•Congrats on your new baby! 🎉 From my experience filing in January, the processing timelines are actually pretty accurate now - much better than the old system. Mine took exactly 2.5 weeks from submission to first payment, which was right in their estimated range. One tip: set up direct deposit if you haven't already! It cuts down the wait time by a few days compared to waiting for a check in the mail. You can do this through the online portal in the payment preferences section. Also, even though you can track everything online now, I'd still recommend calling if you hit the 3-week mark without any movement. Sometimes there are small documentation issues that can hold things up, and a quick call can resolve them faster than waiting for a letter. Good luck with everything!

Wow, this thread is giving me so much hope! I'm due in May and have been absolutely dreading dealing with EDD based on all the horror stories I've heard from mom friends. The fact that they finally have a functioning online system feels like a miracle. Quick question for everyone - I work for a small company (only 8 employees) and my HR person has never dealt with PFL claims before. She's kind of freaking out about the whole process. Has anyone had experience with smaller employers who aren't familiar with the system? Are there any resources or guides that might help her understand what she needs to do on the employer side? Also, I'm planning to take my full 8 weeks of baby bonding leave right after my pregnancy disability ends. Based on what I'm reading here, it sounds like timing the transition is crucial. Should I submit my PFL application before I even give birth, or wait until I'm ready to transition from disability to bonding leave? Don't want to mess this up! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this is exactly the kind of real-world info that's impossible to find on the official EDD website! 🙏

•Hey @Yara Nassar! I totally understand your HR person's stress - I went through this with a small company too (only 6 employees). Here's what helped us: For your HR person, the EDD website actually has an employer section with step-by-step guides now. The main things she needs to know: she doesn't have to "approve" your PFL claim (that's between you and EDD), but she may need to provide wage verification if EDD requests it. Most small employers get nervous thinking they have to manage the whole process, but really EDD handles almost everything directly with you. As for timing - definitely wait until after you give birth to submit your PFL application! You can't file for baby bonding leave before the baby arrives. The key is to submit it during your last week or two of pregnancy disability, not before you go on disability. That way there's no gap between your disability ending and bonding leave starting. The online system makes this SO much easier to coordinate now. You can literally see when your disability claim is ending and time your PFL submission perfectly. Would have saved me so much stress last year when I had to guess at everything! Good luck with everything - sounds like you're way more prepared than most! 🍀
