EDD only approved 1 day of disability when I was out for 2 weeks! How to fix?

I'm so frustrated with my disability claim. I was out of work for two whole weeks, but they only approved my claim for one day! Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm also waiting on approval for my next two weeks of paid family leave. Any advice on how to get this sorted out?

Ugh, that sucks! I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling them? It's probably just a clerical error, but getting through to someone can be a nightmare.

I've been trying to call all morning, but I keep getting stuck on hold forever. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I usually have better luck getting through that way.

lol good luck with that. i swear they have like 2 people working the phones 🙄

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Got through in about an hour instead of wasting my whole day.

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. Is it worth it?

For me it was. I was losing way more than $20 worth of time trying to get through on my own. Plus, the peace of mind was priceless.

This happened to me too! Turns out they had entered my return-to-work date wrong. Double-check all the dates on your claim and make sure they match your doctor's note.

The system is so broken. I've been dealing with claim issues for months now. It's like they're trying to make it as difficult as possible for us to get the benefits we're entitled to. 😤

Preach! 🙌 Sometimes I wonder if they do it on purpose to discourage people from claiming.

Guys, let's not assume malice. The system is just outdated and overwhelmed. Still sucks tho

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your documentation: doctor's notes, work absence records, and any communication you've had with the disability office. 2. Call the disability claims office. Be prepared to wait on hold for a while. When you get through, calmly explain the discrepancy between your actual time off and what was approved. 3. If the phone rep can't help, ask to speak with a supervisor or claims specialist. 4. If you still can't resolve it over the phone, submit a formal appeal in writing. Include copies of all your supporting documents. 5. For your new claim, make sure all dates are clearly stated and match your supporting documentation. 6. Keep detailed records of all your interactions with the office, including dates, times, and names of who you spoke with. Don't give up! It's your money, and you're entitled to it. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: if you have a union rep or HR department, they might be able to help too.

have you checked your online account? sometimes they update stuff there before sending out notices

I'm in the same boat, buddy. Been trying to sort out my claim for weeks. This whole system is a joke. Good luck!

I went through something similar a few months ago. What really helped me was requesting a "claim reconsideration" through their online portal. You can upload additional documentation there, and it seems to move faster than phone calls. Also, make sure you have your doctor's original note stating the exact dates you were unable to work - sometimes they only process partial information from medical providers. The key is being very specific about the dates and having all your paperwork in order. It took about 3-4 weeks, but I eventually got the full amount I was owed retroactively.
