EDD claim status check impossible - 'maximum callers' message every time. How to actually reach an agent?
I've been trying to check on my EDD claim status for days now. Every time I call, I get the 'maximum callers on the line' message and they hang up on me. I've spent almost a full business day just calling and recalling with no luck. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you finally get through to an agent?

I found a way to solve EDD claim status phone issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDfkhBowuvo

Ugh, I feel your pain! I was in the same boat last month. It's like trying to win the lottery just to talk to a human being. š

ā¢I swear they do this on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits. It's a disgrace!

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

ā¢$20? That's steep for something that should be free. Is it really worth it?

ā¢I was skeptical too, but after wasting days trying to get through, $20 seemed worth a shot. It worked for me on the first try. Saved me so much time and frustration.

ā¢How long did you have to wait once it connected you?

ā¢It took about 2 hours total, but I didn't have to do anything. The service called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than constantly redialing myself.

Here's what I've learned after dealing with EDD for months: ⢠Best times to call are right when they open or an hour before closing ⢠Use the trick where you press 1-2-4 as soon as the automated message starts ⢠If you get through to any department, ask them to transfer you ⢠Be persistent! Sometimes it takes 50+ calls to get through ⢠Check your online account regularly for updates ⢠If all else fails, contact your local assembly member's office Hope this helps someone! Stay strong, we're all in this together. šŖ

ā¢Wait, what's this 1-2-4 trick? Can you explain more?

ā¢Sure! As soon as the automated message starts, quickly press 1, then 2, then 4 on your keypad. It sometimes bypasses the queue and gets you to a human faster. It doesn't always work, but worth a try!

have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds old school but I got a response within 48 hours after sending a fax lol

This is why we need to overhaul the entire unemployment system. It's not equipped to handle high volume situations like covid or recessions. We deserve better!

ā¢100% agree. The system is archaic and needs a complete redesign.

Pro tip: if you have Twitter, try tweeting at the EDD account. Sometimes they respond and can help escalate your case. Worth a shot!

I've been dealing with this for 3 months now. Lost my job, can't get through to EDD, bills piling up. I'm at my wits end. Any advice on how to stay sane through all this?

ā¢Hang in there, friend. Have you looked into local food banks or rent assistance programs? They might be able to help while you sort this out.

ā¢Been there. Try to establish a routine, even if you're not working. It helps maintain a sense of normalcy. And don't be afraid to reach out for mental health support if you need it.

I feel your frustration completely! I had the same issue for weeks. Here's what finally worked for me: I started calling at exactly 8:00 AM when they open, and I'd redial immediately after getting the "maximum callers" message. It took about 40 tries one morning, but I finally got through. Also try calling on Tuesdays or Wednesdays - Mondays and Fridays seem to be the worst. The key is persistence and timing. Don't give up, you'll eventually get through! The wait time once connected was about 2 hours, but at least I was in the queue.

ā¢Thanks for the detailed advice! I'm definitely going to try the 8 AM strategy. Did you find that the agents were more helpful in the morning, or was it just easier to get through? Also wondering if there's a specific number you called or if the main line worked best for you?

I've been in the exact same situation! After weeks of getting nowhere with the phone system, I finally had success with a combination approach. First, I used the online contact form on the EDD website - even though they say it takes 5-7 business days, I got a response in 3 days. Second, I called my state assembly member's office and they actually have a dedicated EDD liaison who helped escalate my case. The assembly office route was a game changer - they got back to me within 24 hours with an update. Also, if you're tech-savvy, there are browser extensions that can auto-redial for you, which saved my sanity. Don't lose hope, there are ways around this broken system! šŖ

ā¢This is super helpful, thank you! I had no idea about contacting the assembly member's office - that's brilliant! Which browser extensions did you use for auto-redialing? I'm definitely willing to try anything at this point. The online contact form tip is great too, I'll submit one today. Really appreciate you sharing what actually worked! š

I'm going through the exact same nightmare right now! Been calling for over a week with zero luck. The "maximum callers" message is so frustrating - like they're not even trying to help us. I'm going to try some of these strategies mentioned here, especially the 8 AM calling time and contacting my assembly member. It's crazy that we have to jump through all these hoops just to access benefits we're entitled to. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least I know I'm not alone in this mess! š¤
