EDD claim showing $0 due to compromised SSN - sent verification docs, what's next?
I submitted my unemployment claim back in October through mail, and I got a notice saying my benefits were $0 because my SSN was compromised. They told me to get verification from the Social Security office. I did that and sent all the documents to both EDD offices. I included three documents confirming my annual earnings, a letter from SSN confirming my number, a copy of my driver's license, and even my property tax bill to prove my address. What should I do next? Has anyone else dealt with this?

Ugh, that sucks! I've been in a similar boat. Have you tried calling EDD directly? Sometimes getting someone on the phone can help move things along faster.

•I've tried calling but its impossible to get through. I've been on hold for hours and then get disconnected. Its so frustrating!

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 mins of waiting last week. Good luck! 🍀

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤦♂️

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

•How long did you have to wait after using the service?

•It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit by the phone. They called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than being stuck on hold all day!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Follow up with a phone call to EDD. Be persistent. 2. Contact your local state representative's office. They often have liaisons who can help with EDD issues. 3. File an appeal if you haven't already. You have 30 days from the date on your notice. 4. Keep copies of EVERYTHING you send. 5. Check your UI Online account regularly for updates. 6. Consider reaching out to the EDD via social media (Twitter can be surprisingly effective). Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Don't give up!

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely follow these steps. I hadn't thought about contacting my state rep or using social media. You're a lifesaver! 🙏

•This is solid advice. I'd add: document every call, including date, time, and who you spoke with. It can help if you need to escalate later.

This happened to me last year. Turns out someone had filed a fraudulent claim using my SSN. It took forever to sort out, but I finally got it resolved. Hang in there!

•Oh no, that's scary! How long did it take you to get it sorted out? Did you have to do anything special?

•It took about 3 months 😩 I had to file a police report for identity theft and send that to EDD along with all the other docs. It was a nightmare but eventually got fixed

•3 months?! Ugh, I hope mine doesn't take that long. Thanks for sharing your experience tho, at least I know it's possible to get it resolved!

Have you considered reaching out to a local news station? Sometimes the threat of bad publicity can light a fire under these agencies. Just a thought!

I'm curious, did you receive any kind of confirmation when you sent in all those documents? It might be worth following up to make sure they actually received everything.

•No, I didn't get any confirmation 😕 That's a good point tho, I'll def follow up on that. Thanks!
