EDD PFL claim delay: Doctor's late paperwork, no response, returning to work soon - Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my EDD claim and could use some advice. I filed my claim about a week ago, but my doctor didn't send in the paperwork until a few days later. Now I'm stuck waiting and haven't heard anything back from EDD. I'm getting anxious because I need to know if I was approved and when I can expect payments. To top it off, I'm heading back to work soon after only being off for a couple weeks on PFL. Anyone been through something similar or have tips on what I should do next?

Have you tried checking your claim status online? Sometimes it updates there before they actually contact you. Just a thought!

I've been refreshing the page like crazy, but no updates yet. Fingers crossed something changes soon!

Pro tip: Set up email notifications for your EDD account. Saved me from obsessively checking the website.

I've had mixed results with online updates, but when they work, it can be a real time-saver!

Hot take: the whole system needs an overhaul. It's 2024 and we're still dealing with this archaic bs? Come on, California!

Itโ€™s understandable to feel anxious during this time, especially with the delays in communication from EDD. First, ensure all your documentation is in order and keep a copy of everything. If you havenโ€™t already, try reaching out to EDD through their online portal or by phone as others have suggested. Using tools like Claimyr can be effective if youโ€™re looking to bypass long hold times, but consider that it comes at a cost. It's essential to weigh the urgency of your situation. Additionally, contacting your local assembly member, as mentioned, can sometimes expedite the process. Meanwhile, stay proactive by regularly checking your claim status online and setting up notifications to alert you of any changes. Lastly, remember to take care of your mental health during this frustrating process. Stay persistent and explore all the suggested avenues, and hopefully, youโ€™ll receive the assistance you need soon.

I found a way to get someone on the phone without the endless hold times. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken ๐Ÿ˜ค

I agree it's frustrating, but sometimes convenience comes at a cost. It might be worth it if you're desperate for answers.

Friendly reminder to document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online update. You never know when you might need that info later. Trust me on this one.

Ugh, the waiting game with EDD is the worst! I've been there, buddy. Your best bet is to call them directly and ask about the status of your claim. Be prepared to wait on hold for a looong time though. ๐Ÿ™„

Agreed, but calling in the morning around 8 am has worked for me. It reduces the wait time a bit. Worth a try!

Just a heads up, with the new fiscal year starting, there might be some delays in processing claims. I heard they're updating their systems or something. Might explain the hold-up.

Have you considered reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help expedite EDD claims. Worth a shot!

This! ๐Ÿ‘† My assemblyman's office was a game-changer. They got my claim sorted in a week after months of radio silence from EDD.

When you do get through to EDD, make sure to ask these questions: 1. Has my claim been approved? 2. Do I need to submit any additional paperwork? 3. When can I expect to receive payments? 4. How will my return to work affect my payments? 5. Are there any specific steps I need to take when I go back to work? It's important to get all of this information to avoid any delays or misunderstandings. Good luck!

Thanks for the list! This is really helpful. I'll make sure to ask all of these when I finally get through to someone.

Great advice! I'd also suggest asking about any potential overpayment issues. Those can be a real headache later on.

Also, inquire about any appeals process in case there's an issue with your claim. Better to be prepared!
