EDD PFL application submitted but no status update - where to check progress?

Applied for PFL after having my baby 2 weeks ago and got the confirmation email saying EDD received my application. But I haven't heard anything since then! When I log into my account, I can only see that I submitted the application - there's literally nowhere that shows if they're processing it or what's happening. I thought there'd be some kind of status bar or progress indicator? Is there a different place I'm supposed to check? Getting worried because our savings are running thin and I need to know when to expect payment. Any help appreciated!

theres no status bar, its super annoying. you just wait till it either shows approved or they send you something in the mail. took like 3 weeks for mine.

3 weeks? Ughhh I was hoping it would be faster. Did you get any emails or just check the online account?

The EDD online system is pretty basic compared to other government portals. For PFL baby bonding, you won't see much of a "status" update until a decision is made. The system will eventually show either "claim filed" or "claim established" and payment info once approved. Typically takes 10-14 calendar days for processing if everything is in order with your application. If you're approaching the 2-week mark, you can try calling them directly to check status, though getting through is incredibly difficult. I recommend calling right when they open at 8am.

Thank you for this info! I'm almost at the 2-week mark so I'll try calling tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed I can actually get through to someone.

I just went through this exact same thing!! It's SO frustrating that there's no way to see what's happening with your claim online. I kept checking multiple times a day and suddenly one day it just showed as approved with a payment issued. No emails, no notifications, nothing. I actually got the debit card in the mail before I even saw the online status change. When did you submit your DE2508 form? They count the processing time from when they receive the COMPLETED application, not just the initial submission. If your doctor or employer was slow getting their part in, that could be why it's taking longer.

I submitted everything together - my part, doctor's certification, everything - on May 2nd. Today's the 15th so it's been almost 2 weeks. I'm going to try calling tomorrow. This is so stressful!

After i had my baby i waited 3 WEEKS before my PFL got approved, and tha was after i had already been on SDI for pregnancy. they dont seem to have any way of checking status which is crazy in 2025! like we should be able to see if someone is at least looking at our application...

I know the anxiety of waiting for PFL benefits all too well - been there twice! A couple things to understand about the EDD system: 1. The online portal doesn't show claim status because their system is still partially paper-based behind the scenes (ridiculous, I know) 2. If you're transitioning from SDI pregnancy disability to PFL baby bonding, it can take longer as they have to close one claim and open another 3. First payments typically take 14-21 days if there are no issues, subsequent payments are faster The most reliable way to check status is to actually get an EDD representative on the phone. I wasted HOURS trying to get through until someone recommended I use Claimyr (claimyr.com). It basically calls EDD for you and connects you when an agent is available. Saved me so much frustration! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 Once you get through, ask the rep to check if there are any issues with your application that need to be resolved. Often they can approve it on the spot if everything is in order but stuck in their backlog.

does that service actually work? ive been calling eveyday for a week and never get through

Thank you for explaining all this! I spent all morning trying to call EDD but kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. I'm going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow. At this point I'd do anything to just talk to a real person and find out what's happening with my application!

Don't stress too much! This is completely normal with EDD PFL claims. For both of my kids, I had zero visibility into the claim status until suddenly money appeared on my EDD debit card. The online system is really just for certifying ongoing eligibility, not for tracking application progress. One thing to check - did you receive the physical letter in the mail confirming your claim was received? It's usually a form notice that arrives a week after you apply. If you got that, you're likely in good shape and just need to wait. Also, make sure you've set up the benefit payment options in your online account (either debit card or direct deposit). Sometimes claims get held up if this isn't completed. If it goes beyond 3 weeks total, then I'd definitely recommend escalating by contacting your state assembly member's office. They have special channels to EDD and can often get things resolved quickly.

I did get a letter in the mail about a week after applying that confirmed they received everything. And I set up direct deposit when I first created my account. Hopefully that means everything is on track and I just need to be patient (so hard when bills are due though!).

whatever u do DONT KEEP SUBMITTING MORE APPLICATIONS!! my friend did that when she got impatient and it totally messed everything up, they had to sort thru multiple claims and it delayed her $ by like 2 more weeks

Oh no, definitely won't do that! Good to know.

So I called using that Claimyr service that someone mentioned above, and I actually got through to a real person at EDD yesterday! The rep said there's a huge backlog of PFL claims right now because of some system update they did in April that caused problems. She checked my claim and confirmed it looks good, no issues, just waiting in line to be processed. She said I should see an update within a week and recommended I set up text alerts (which I didn't even know was an option). To do this, log into your account, go to Profile -> Contact Information, and there's a spot to opt into text notifications. At least that way you'll know right away when something changes!

Thank you SO much for this info! I'm going to check out the text alert option right now. And that makes sense about the system update causing delays - wish they would communicate that to applicants though instead of leaving us wondering!

i hate how they make this process so stressful when your already dealing with a newborn!!! shouldnt be this hard to get benefits we PAID FOR through our taxes!!!!

Technically, PFL is funded through the SDI contribution on your paystub, not general taxes. But I completely agree that the process should be more transparent and user-friendly, especially for new parents!

UPDATE: My claim was finally approved today! For anyone else going through this, here's what worked for me: 1. I used Claimyr to get through to EDD (took about 25 minutes total instead of endless redialing) 2. The rep confirmed my application looked good but had been stuck in their backlog 3. She manually moved it forward in their system 4. The next day my online account updated to show approval and payment issued So if you're waiting, definitely try to speak with someone directly. They can often help speed things up once they actually look at your claim. Thanks everyone for your advice!

I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now! Applied for PFL 10 days ago after my daughter was born and the waiting is killing me. Reading through all these comments is both reassuring and frustrating - reassuring that this seems to be normal, but frustrating that EDD still hasn't figured out how to give people basic status updates in 2025. I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow and set up those text alerts. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know we're not alone in this!

I'm in the exact same boat! Applied 8 days ago and checking my account obsessively every day hoping to see some kind of update. It's so nerve-wracking when you're already stressed about finances with a new baby. Based on what everyone's shared here, it sounds like 2-3 weeks is pretty normal, but I'm definitely going to try calling through that Claimyr service if I don't hear anything by next week. Hang in there - sounds like we just have to be patient with EDD's outdated system!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Just had my son 3 weeks ago and applied for PFL immediately. The lack of transparency in their system is honestly ridiculous - like you said, there's no status bar, no progress indicator, nothing! I've been logging in daily just staring at the same "application submitted" message. Based on what I'm reading here, it sounds like 2-3 weeks is unfortunately normal, but I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service someone mentioned. The idea of spending hours redialing EDD every day sounds like torture, especially when you're already exhausted from sleepless nights with a newborn. Really hoping they modernize their system soon because this waiting game is so stressful when you're already dealing with reduced income and new baby expenses. Thanks for posting this - at least now I know I'm not the only one dealing with EDD's terrible communication!

I feel you so much on this! Just went through the same thing with my baby girl born last month. The EDD system is honestly from the stone age - no status updates, no communication, nothing! I ended up having to use that Claimyr service too because I couldn't get through on my own after trying for days. It's crazy that in 2025 we have to pay a third-party service just to talk to our own government agency! But it did work - got connected to a rep who was able to check my claim status and give me a realistic timeline. Definitely recommend trying it if you're still waiting after 3 weeks. Hope yours comes through soon - the financial stress on top of new parent exhaustion is no joke!

Just want to echo what everyone else is saying - the EDD system is SO frustrating with no status updates! I went through this exact same thing when my twins were born last year. Applied right away and then just... silence for weeks. No emails, no updates, nothing in the online portal except "application received." What finally worked for me was calling my state assemblyman's office after about 3 weeks of waiting. They have a direct line to EDD and can actually get answers. The staffer there told me that EDD has a massive backlog but that my claim was progressing normally. Two days after that call, my benefits suddenly appeared in my account. I know it's another hoop to jump through when you're already exhausted with a newborn, but if the Claimyr service doesn't work out, definitely try contacting your local representative's office. They're used to helping constituents with EDD issues and it's a free service. Hang in there - the money will come, it's just EDD's terrible system making everyone panic!

That's really helpful advice about contacting your assemblyman's office! I didn't even think of that as an option. It's so frustrating that we have to go through all these workarounds just to get basic information about our own benefits. I'm at day 12 since applying and getting more anxious by the day. If I don't hear anything by next week, I'll definitely try both the Claimyr service and reaching out to my local representative. Thanks for sharing what worked for you - it gives me hope that there are actually ways to get through this bureaucratic maze!

I'm currently going through this exact same nightmare! Applied for PFL 9 days ago after having my baby and it's like my application disappeared into a black hole. The EDD online system is absolutely useless - just shows "application submitted" with zero indication of what's happening behind the scenes. Reading through everyone's experiences here is both comforting and infuriating. Comforting to know this is "normal" but infuriating that in 2025 we still can't get basic status updates on our own benefits! I've been checking the portal multiple times a day like it's going to magically update. I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service if I don't hear anything by next week. The thought of spending hours every day trying to get through to EDD while dealing with a newborn sounds like torture. It's ridiculous that we have to pay a third party just to communicate with our own state agency, but at this point I'll try anything. Thanks for posting this and to everyone who shared their experiences - at least now I know what to expect and that there are ways to actually get through to a real person when the system inevitably fails us!

I'm so glad you posted this! I'm dealing with the exact same situation - applied for PFL 11 days ago and it's like staring into a void. The EDD system really is from another era. What's helped me stay somewhat sane is setting up those text alerts someone mentioned earlier (go to Profile > Contact Information in your account). At least then you'll get notified the second something changes instead of obsessively checking the portal like I was doing! Also, from reading everyone's timeline here, it seems like most people are hearing back right around the 2-3 week mark, so you're probably close. I'm planning to try Claimyr next week if I don't hear anything soon. Hang in there - we shouldn't have to jump through all these hoops but at least there are workarounds that actually work!

I'm going through this exact same frustrating experience right now! Applied for PFL 6 days ago after my baby was born and the complete lack of status updates is driving me crazy. It's 2025 and we literally have better tracking for pizza deliveries than for our own government benefits! Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful though - sounds like 2-3 weeks is unfortunately the norm, and there are actually some workarounds to get through to EDD. I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service if I don't hear anything by next week, and I just set up the text alerts that someone mentioned (had no idea that was even an option). It's so reassuring to know I'm not the only one dealing with EDD's stone-age system, but also infuriating that new parents have to go through this stress when we're already exhausted and worried about finances. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions - this thread is going to save my sanity over the next week or two!

I totally feel your frustration! I'm actually in a very similar boat - applied for PFL about a week ago and have been refreshing that useless portal constantly hoping for any kind of update. It's wild that we can track a $5 package from across the country in real-time but can't get basic info about our own benefits! Thanks for mentioning the text alerts - I had no idea that was even a feature and just set it up. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been such a lifesaver. It's good to know that 2-3 weeks seems to be the standard timeline, even though it feels like forever when you're waiting. I'm bookmarking that Claimyr service too in case I need to use it next week. Hang in there - sounds like we just have to ride out EDD's outdated system!
