EDD PFL: Unexpected phone discussion required after claim submission - What to expect?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with EDD Paid Family Leave. Got this letter saying I need to discuss something over the phone, but I have no clue what it's about. My claim was received on June 25th and I've already submitted all the required docs. Anyone else been through this? What should I expect when I call? I'm kinda nervous about it tbh.

I found a way to solve EDD call wait times, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8sUVDX8Ywk

It's designed to be difficult on purpose. They hope people will give up and not claim what they're entitled to. Stay strong and don't let them win!

I totally get the frustration, but sometimes these checks are meant to protect against fraud. It's annoying, but they do serve a purposeβ€”just wish the process was smoother.

Claimyr is a helpful tool for some but remember that it isn't a perfect solution for everyone. For those who cannot afford it, patience and understanding the system's quirks can help. Also, having a backup plan for funds is crucial, as delays might occur.

I had a similar situation last month. Turns out they just needed to confirm my last day of work. Whole thing took like 5 minutes once I finally got through. Don't stress too much!

That's reassuring! Hopefully mine's something simple like that too. Thanks for sharing!

You got lucky. I've been trying to sort out a payment issue for 3 months now. It's a nightmare.

Sometimes it's really quick, sometimes not. Just hope for the best and prepare for delays.

Pro tip: call right when they open. You'll still wait, but not as long as midday. And whatever you do, DON'T HANG UP if you're on hold. You'll lose your place in line and have to start all over 😫

I've found that using speakerphone while doing other things helps pass the time while on hold.

Definitely feels like a circus at times! Best approach is to arm yourself with patience and a good sense of humor.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update info there before sending letters. Might give you a heads up on what they wanna discuss.

Great point! I overlooked an online update once and waited for days, only to realize the info was already there.

Hang in there, OP! We're all in the same boat. This too shall pass. Just remember to breathe and take it one step at a time. Sending good vibes your way! ❀️

Ugh, classic EDD move. They love keeping us in the dark πŸ™„ When I got a similar letter, it turned out they just needed to verify my identity. No biggie, but took forever to get through to someone. Good luck!

Don't sweat it, OP! I've been down this road before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Prepare all your docs before the call (claim number, ID, etc.) 2. Write down the date you submitted everything (June 25th in your case) 3. Be patient - you might be on hold for a while 4. Ask them specifically what they need from you 5. Take notes during the call Remember, stay calm and be polite. The person on the other end is just doing their job. You got this! πŸ’ͺ

Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely gonna write this down. Any idea how long the wait times usually are?

Solid advice! I'd add: record the call if you can. It's saved my butt more than once when dealing with these bureaucratic nightmares.

@OP Wait times can be brutal. I've waited anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Bring a book or Netflix lol

I used to be anxious about calls like these too. Practicing what you want to say beforehand helps a lot, and remember, it's okay to ask them to repeat or clarify things.

Anyone else notice how these issues always seem to pop up right when you're most stressed about money? It's like they have a sixth sense for inconvenience πŸ™ƒ

I swear, it's like they have a timing radar for maximum stress impact!

Hey guys, I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! 😀

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

I've used Claimyr too, and it did save me a lot of time. However, I think they should offer a trial or a cheaper option for people really struggling financially.
