EDD contacted me about PFL claim - what to expect next?

Hey everyone, I just got contacted by EDD about my paid family leave claim. Has anyone else had this happen recently? What should I expect next?

Max Knight

Congrats on hearing back! That's a good sign. When I got contacted, they just wanted to verify some info. Make sure you have all your docs ready. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up! Did they ask for anything specific? I'm nervous about missing something important.

They mostly wanted to confirm dates and make sure my employer's info was correct. Nothing too crazy, don't stress! 😊

Ugh, I've been waiting for weeks and still nothing. Anyone know how to actually get through to a real person there?

I feel ya. The wait is brutal. I found this site (claimyr.com) that has a calling tool. It dials the menu, stays on hold, and connects you when an agent picks up. Costs $20 but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😡

I know it sounds steep, but after wasting hours trying to get through, it was worth it for me. Saved me a ton of stress.

It's legit, I promise. They even have reviews on Trustpilot. But yeah, do your research first!

Make sure you keep a record of all your communications with EDD. It can be a lifesaver if theres any confusion later on.

I'm in the same boat, OP. Just got contacted last week. They asked for some additional medical documentation. Apparently, thats pretty common for PFL claims.

Oh man, I hope they don't need more docs from me. My doctor's office is so slow with paperwork 😫

Pro tip: call your doc's office and explain its for EDD. Sometimes they'll expedite it if they know its for a claim!

Anyone else notice that EDD seems to be moving faster lately? I filed my claim 2 weeks ago and already got a response. Maybe they finally got their act together?

LOL good one. EDD and 'got their act together' in the same sentence 🤣

Idk, I've noticed things moving quicker too. Maybe all those news stories about delays lit a fire under them?

Here's what you need to know about EDD contacting you for Paid Family Leave: 1. Verification: They'll likely want to verify your information. This includes personal details, employment info, and reason for leave. 2. Documentation: Be prepared to provide additional documentation. This could be medical certificates, birth certificates (for bonding leave), or other relevant papers. 3. Timeline: After initial contact, the process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on your case complexity. 4. Questions: They might have specific questions about your claim. Be honest and provide as much detail as possible. 5. Next Steps: They should outline what happens next. This could be approval, request for more info, or in some cases, denial. 6. Appeals: If there's any issue, remember you have the right to appeal decisions. Remember to respond promptly to any requests. Delays on your end can slow down the whole process. Good luck with your claim!
