EDD Claim Processing Time and Payment - Recent Experiences?

Hey everyone, I just filed a claim and I'm wondering about the processing time and payment. Anyone have experience with this recently? How long did it take for your claim to be processed and to receive payment?

I filed my claim about 3 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back. The waiting game is killing me! 😫 Anyone else in the same boat?

3 weeks? You're lucky! I've been waiting for 2 months now. This system is so broken πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Hang in there! Mine took about 4 weeks to process. It sucks, but it'll come through eventually.

2 months?! Thats insane. How are we supposed to survive like this? 😑

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20? Thats kinda steep just to talk to someone...

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Can you give more details about how it works? Do they guarantee you'll get through?

β€’

Sure! You just go to their website, choose the department you need to call, pay the fee, and they start calling for you. When they get a real person, they connect you. No guarantee, but it worked for me first try.

Here's what I've learned about claim processing times: β€’ Initial claims usually take 2-3 weeks to process β€’ If there are any issues or they need more info, it can take up to 6 weeks β€’ Payments typically start within a week after your claim is approved β€’ Continuing claims are usually processed within 3 days Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Wow, thanks for the detailed breakdown! This is super helpful. Do you know if theres any way to check the status of a claim online?

β€’

Yes, you can check your claim status on the EDD website. Just log into your account and look for the 'Claim Status' section. It's not always up to date, but it's a good starting point.

Has anyone tried contacting their local representative? I've heard that can sometimes speed things up.

β€’

I did this! It actually helped a lot. My rep's office contacted EDD on my behalf and my claim was processed within a week after that.

How do you even find out who your local rep is? πŸ€”

Just google '[your city] state representative'. Most have contact forms on their websites. Good luck!

Pro tip: make sure all your paperwork is filled out correctly and you have all the required documents ready. A lot of delays happen becuz of simple mistakes or missing info.

THIS! πŸ‘† I made a typo on my SSN and it delayed my claim by a month. Triple check everything!

Anyone else notice that the processing times seem to vary depending on what type of claim you file? My UI claim took forever, but my SDI claim was processed super fast.

0 coins

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I think different departments handle different types of claims. SDI seems to be more efficient for some reason.

Just wanted to share my recent experience - I filed my PFL claim about 5 weeks ago and finally got my first payment last week! The key things that helped me were: 1) Making sure I had all my medical documentation ready upfront, 2) Following up with my doctor to submit the required forms quickly, and 3) checking the EDD website regularly for any requests for additional info. The waiting is really stressful, but hang in there everyone! πŸ’ͺ

Thanks for sharing your experience @Kolton Murphy! 5 weeks is actually not too bad compared to some of the horror stories I've been hearing. Quick question - did you have to call them at all during the process, or did everything go through smoothly just by submitting online? I'm at week 2 right now and getting anxious about whether I should try calling or just wait it out.

Just wanted to add my recent experience to help others - I filed my PFL claim 6 weeks ago and am still waiting for approval. What's been most frustrating is the lack of communication from EDD. I've called multiple times but can never get through. However, I did notice that when I log into my online account, there's sometimes a message asking for additional documentation that wasn't mentioned in the original application. My advice: check your online portal at least twice a week, even if you haven't received any emails or mail notifications. There might be requests sitting there that could be holding up your claim! Has anyone else experienced this issue with missing notifications?

0 coins

@Luca Russo Yes! I had the exact same issue. I was waiting for weeks thinking they were just processing my claim, but it turns out they had requested additional medical records that I never got notified about. The request was just sitting in my online portal. Once I submitted the documents, my claim moved forward pretty quickly. It s'so frustrating that their notification system doesn t'work properly - you really do have to check manually all the time. Thanks for sharing this tip, hopefully it helps others avoid the same delay!

I'm currently at week 3 of waiting for my PFL claim to process and reading all these experiences is both reassuring and nerve-wracking! πŸ˜… Based on what everyone's shared, I've been checking my online portal religiously (thanks @Luca Russo and @Benjamin Johnson for that tip!). One thing I haven't seen mentioned much - has anyone had luck submitting additional supporting documentation even if EDD didn't specifically ask for it? I'm thinking of proactively sending in extra medical records just to avoid potential delays. Also, for those who got approved, did you receive any kind of confirmation email or notification when your claim status changed, or did you just have to keep checking the portal? This whole process is so stressful when you're already dealing with family care responsibilities! πŸ˜”

@Carlos Mendoza I totally understand the stress you re'going through! I m'new to this process myself but from what I ve'been reading here, it seems like being proactive with documentation could actually help. I d'say go for it with the extra medical records - worst case scenario they already have what they need, but it might prevent delays if they were going to ask for it later anyway. As for notifications, it sounds like the system is pretty unreliable based on everyone s'experiences, so definitely keep checking that portal regularly. Sending you good vibes that your claim processes smoothly! 🀞 This whole situation is tough enough without having to worry about bureaucratic delays.

Thanks for starting this thread @Zoe Papanikolaou! I'm in a similar situation - just submitted my PFL claim last week and already feeling anxious about the wait. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really helpful, even if some of the timelines are pretty scary 😬 I'm definitely going to take the advice about checking the online portal regularly and making sure I have all my medical documentation organized. It's frustrating that we have to be so proactive just to avoid unnecessary delays in a system that's supposed to help us during difficult times. Has anyone found it helpful to keep a log or checklist of what they've submitted and when? I'm thinking of starting a simple spreadsheet to track everything so I don't miss anything important.

@Zoe Stavros That s'a really smart idea about keeping a spreadsheet! I wish I had thought of that when I started my claim process. It would definitely help keep track of what you ve'submitted, when you submitted it, and any follow-up actions needed. You could include columns for things like document type, submission date, confirmation numbers, and status updates. Given how unreliable the notification system seems to be based on everyone s'experiences here, having your own tracking system could be a lifesaver. I m'definitely going to start doing this for my own claim going forward. Thanks for the suggestion and good luck with your claim! 🀞

I'm also new to this process and just filed my PFL claim yesterday. Reading through all these experiences is both helpful and a bit overwhelming! It sounds like the key takeaways are: check your online portal constantly, have all medical docs ready, and be prepared to wait 4-6 weeks minimum. The inconsistent notification system seems to be a real problem - I'm definitely going to follow @Luca Russo and @Benjamin Johnson's advice about checking for requests that might not get properly sent out. @Zoe Stavros your spreadsheet idea is brilliant! I'm going to set one up today. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it really helps to know what to expect even if the process is frustrating. Fingers crossed we all get through this smoothly! 🀞
