Can EDD agents expedite my PFL baby bonding claim before the 14-day processing time?
So frustrated right now! Just submitted my baby bonding PFL claim yesterday after finishing my pregnancy disability. The EDD website says I have to wait 14 days for processing, but I can't wait that long - we're already struggling financially with the baby expenses mounting up. Has anyone successfully called EDD and gotten an agent to process their claim faster? I've heard mixed things about whether they can actually help speed things up or if calling is just a waste of time. My little one is already 3 weeks old and every day without benefits is stressing me out!

Unfortunately, that 14-day processing timeline is pretty standard and there's not much you can do to expedite it. I went through this last year with my twins. The agents can check the status of your claim, but they don't have the authority to push it through faster - the claims go through a specific processing queue. Make sure your DE2508 form was filled out completely and your doctor's certification is correct, as any missing info will delay it further. Hang in there!

•Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Did yours actually take the full 14 days? I'm also worried because I think I might have entered my return-to-work date wrong on the form and I don't know if that'll cause problems.

•17 days?! That's so long! Did you have to keep calling to find out when it was approved or did they notify you?

The 14-day processing period is built into their system and yes, you do have to wait unfortunately. However, there are a few things to know: 1. The 14 days is business days, not calendar days 2. If your PFL is a continuation from Pregnancy Disability (SDI), make sure you check that box on the DE2508 form - this can sometimes speed things up 3. If you're transitioning from SDI to PFL, your claim should be linked in their system already 4. Agents can see your claim status but cannot expedite processing If you need to correct information on your application (like your return-to-work date), you should definitely call ASAP to fix that before it causes delays. The waiting period is frustrating but is just part of the process.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I did check the box for transition from SDI, so that's good. I'll try to call tomorrow to fix that return date. It's just so stressful not knowing when the money will come through with a newborn to take care of.

NOBODY AT EDD CARES ABOUT YOUR TIMELINE!!! They operate at their own pace and don't give a crap if you're waiting. I literally had to wait 23 DAYS for my baby bonding claim to process last year and had to borrow money from family. The system is completely broken. Even if you manage to get through to an agent (GOOD LUCK WITH THAT), they just tell you to keep waiting. It's all a joke.

•Same experience here. My baby was 6 weeks old by the time I got my first payment.

I was having the same issue last month and was desperate to reach someone at EDD. After spending hours trying to get through the regular phone line with no luck, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that connects you with an EDD agent usually within 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 I used it and actually got through to an agent who confirmed my claim was in process. They couldn't expedite it, but at least I could verify everything was correct so it wouldn't get delayed further. Gave me peace of mind instead of wondering if I'd filled something out wrong.

Im not sure about speeding up the process but make sure all ur paperwork is correct! My husbund filled out my bonding form wrong and it delayed everything by 3 extra weeks. The baby was almost 2 months by then and we nearly missed a rent payment. Check that ur doctor filled their part right too. So many things can go wrong with those stupid forms.

•That's my biggest fear! I'm going to double check all my paperwork tonight. Did you have to submit correction forms or anything when your husband filled it out wrong?

To directly answer your original question - no, calling an agent won't expedite the claim processing. The 14-day window is the minimum processing time, and while agents can't speed it up, they CAN help if: 1. You need to correct information on your claim 2. Your claim has been pending longer than 14 business days 3. You need to check if any documentation is missing I recommend waiting until at least the 10th business day before calling to check status. If you're transitioning from pregnancy disability to baby bonding, your claim should process more smoothly since you're already in their system.

•Thanks for the clarification. I'll wait until next week before I start calling. Glad to know that transitioning might make it smoother. It's my first baby so everything about this process is new and confusing!

When I had my baby last year I got paid the full 14 days after filing even though I submitted everything right away. I think they just batch process claims or something. But the first payment included everything from my filing date, not just from the approval date. So you should still get paid for the full benefit period.

•That's really good to know - at least I'll get backpaid from my filing date. I just wish they made this process easier for new parents!
