Wrong work address on EDD SDI claim - fix or file new application?
I submitted my disability claim through SDI Online last Tuesday and just realized I made a really silly mistake. I accidentally entered my home address in the 'employer address' section instead of my actual workplace address! I was filling out the form late at night after my surgery and was pretty medicated, so I guess I wasn't thinking clearly. Now I'm freaking out that my claim will be denied or delayed because of this error. Should I call EDD to correct this information (if that's even possible), or would it be better to just file a completely new claim with the correct employer address? I'm worried about having duplicate claims in the system and making everything worse. Has anyone dealt with address corrections on an SDI claim before? My doctor already submitted the medical certification, so I'm not sure what the best approach is here. Help!

Don't file a new claim! That will only confuse things and likely create a duplicate in the system. You should call EDD to fix the address error. This is a common mistake and they have procedures for correcting information on claims. Just be prepared to wait on hold for a long time - it took me 3.5 hours to get through last month when I needed to update my phone number.

•Thank you! I've been trying to call but keep getting disconnected after the automated system. Is there a specific time of day that's better to call?

•3 weeks?! Oh no, I really can't afford any delays. My rent is due in 2 weeks and I was counting on this payment.

I had this exact issue last year! Call the EDD SDI office and request a DE 2501C form (Statement of Correction). You can use this form to correct information on your original claim. Make sure to clearly indicate what needs to be changed (incorrect employer address → correct employer address). The most important thing is that your claim has the correct employer ID number (EIN) - the address is secondary. If you got the EIN right, this should be a fairly simple fix. They can verify your employment with the employer ID even if the address is wrong. Don't file a new claim as this will definitely cause confusion and potentially flag both claims for fraud investigation, which would seriously delay your benefits.

•Thank you so much for the specific form name! I'll ask for the DE 2501C when I call. I'm pretty sure I entered the correct EIN, so hopefully this won't be too bad to fix.

I put my doctors address wrong and it took FOREVER to fix!!! The EDD system is such a nightmare. They kept transferring me between departments and nobody seemed to know what they were doing. So frustrating!! 😡😡😡

If you've been having trouble getting through on the phone, you might want to check out Claimyr. I was in a similar situation with an address error on my claim and spent days trying to reach someone at EDD. A friend recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an EDD representative in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd It saved me so much frustration after spending hours listening to that awful hold music only to get disconnected. The EDD rep I spoke with was able to update my employer address immediately, and my claim processed normally after that.

•Yes, it's legit. I was skeptical too, but it actually works. They basically navigate the phone system for you and call you back once they get through to a real person.

I work as an HR benefits specialist and deal with SDI claims regularly. Here's what you need to know: 1. Wrong address alone won't derail your claim IF your employer name and EIN are correct. 2. The best approach is calling EDD at 1-800-480-3287 to request a correction. Early morning (8:00-8:30 AM) tends to have the shortest wait times. 3. Have your claim ID, SSN, and correct employer address ready when you call. 4. If you can't get through by phone, you can also submit a written correction request. Go to the SDI Online portal, select "Contact EDD" and explain the error clearly in your message. 5. While your claim is processing, it's also helpful to notify your employer's HR department about the error so they can confirm the correct information if EDD contacts them for verification. The correction shouldn't significantly delay your claim as long as your medical certification is already submitted and your employer verifies your employment.

•Thank you for such detailed information! I'll try calling first thing tomorrow morning at 8am. My employer's HR knows about my claim, so I'll give them a heads up about the address error too.

When I had a similar issue, I had luck by going to my local EDD office in person. Way faster than dealing with phone trees and being disconnected. Bring your ID and claim information and they can usually help you on the spot. Just google "EDD office near me" to find the closest one.

•Good point - you should call the office first to confirm they handle SDI claims before making the trip!

Just wanted to check in - were you able to get your address corrected? If you're still having trouble, you can also ask your employer to contact EDD directly to confirm your employment details. Sometimes this can help expedite things from their end.

•Yes! I finally got through this morning after trying for three days. The representative said it was a simple fix and that my claim should process normally. She said the employer address is mainly used for verification purposes, and since my EIN was correct, it shouldn't have affected my claim processing. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help!

That's great news that you got it resolved! For anyone else dealing with similar issues, I've found that persistence really pays off with EDD phone calls. Also, if you're calling about a correction, having your claim confirmation number ready speeds things up significantly. The representatives can pull up your case much faster with that number rather than searching by SSN. Glad everything worked out for you Sean!

•This is such helpful advice! I'm new to this community and currently dealing with my first SDI claim - it's so overwhelming trying to navigate the EDD system. Having the claim confirmation number ready is a great tip that I wouldn't have thought of. It's really reassuring to see how supportive everyone is here and that most issues can be resolved with persistence. Thanks for sharing your experience!
