SDI claim confusion: Extra payment, need more medical info for EDD?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my SDI claim and could use some advice. I was certified after 10 weeks, but now I'm not sure what's going on. I've got a doctor's appointment coming up next week, and I'm wondering if I need to provide more medical info to EDD. Also, they paid me for two extra days, which is confusing. Has anyone dealt with something similar? What should I ask when I call them?

Emma Davis

Anyone else feel like they need a law degree to understand all these EDD rules and regulations? 🎓⚖️ I swear, every time I think I've got it figured out, there's some new twist.

Seriously! I've read more legal jargon in the past month than I have in my entire life. EDD should come with a translator 😅

Plot twist: it's all made up and the points don't matter 🤡

Yes! It's like a never-ending legal maze. A guidebook or even a simplified FAQ would help so much.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like they're playing a really unfun version of Monopoly with EDD? Pass GO, collect $200, oh wait, we need more documentation, go back three spaces 🎲🏦

Lmao this is too accurate. Except instead of going to jail, you just get stuck on eternal hold 📞💀

Haha, this made my day! Feels exactly like that. EDD really knows how to keep us on our toes.

idk man, the whole system is a mess. I've been trying to get my claim sorted for 3 months now. Every time I call, I get a different answer. It's like playing EDD roulette 🎰

Oof, that sounds rough. Any tips for keeping track of all the different info they give you?

I started keeping a log of every call - date, time, who I spoke to, what they said. It's a pain, but it helps when they try to say "we never told you that" 🙄

A log is a lifesaver! You can also use apps that record calls (with consent) for your records. Helps to have proof when you need it.

Hey, just a heads up - make sure you're super clear about your work status when you talk to them. I had a friend who got in trouble because there was a misunderstanding about whether she could work part-time or not. Better safe than sorry!

Important reminder! Misunderstandings can lead to big headaches down the line. Clarity is key.

Friendly reminder to everyone: be nice to the EDD reps when you call. They're probably just as frustrated as we are with the system. A little kindness goes a long way! 💖

This! I used to work in a call center (not EDD) and being nice really does help. They're more likely to go the extra mile for you.

Absolutely! Patience and kindness can sometimes open doors quicker than anger and frustration.

Hot take: the whole system needs an overhaul. It's 2024 and we're still dealing with fax machines and snail mail? Come on, California, get it together! 🐌📠

Preach! I work in tech and it blows my mind how outdated their systems are. No wonder there are so many issues.

Ugh, dealing with EDD is like pulling teeth. I swear they make it confusing on purpose. Here's what I'd do if I were you: 1. Gather all your medical docs before calling. They love paperwork. 2. Write down your questions beforehand. It's easy to forget stuff when you're on the phone. 3. Ask them point-blank if they need more info from your doc. 4. Find out why they paid you extra. Could be a mistake, could be in your favor. 5. Get the name of whoever you talk to. Makes follow-ups easier. Good luck, hope you get it sorted!

Solid advice! I've been through a similar situation, and having all your documents ready definitely speeds up the process.

I had a similar situation. Turns out the extra days were because of how they calculate the weeks. Don't spend that money tho, they might ask for it back 💀

lol welcome to the EDD circus 🤡 I've been dealing with them for months and it's always something new. One time they overpaid me and then wanted it back. Another time they underpaid and I had to fight to get what I was owed. My advice? Document EVERYTHING.

Thanks for the heads up. How long did it take you to resolve the overpayment issue?

Oof, it took like 3 months of back and forth. Keep all your pay stubs and correspondence. Trust me, you'll need em.

Has anyone tried the EDD website chatbot? Is it actually helpful or just another digital brick wall?

For simple inquiries, it's fine. But for more personal or detailed matters, I wouldn't rely on it.

Pro tip: when you call, ask to speak to a tier 2 specialist right away. The first person you talk to usually can't do much. Also, call early in the morning if you can. Less wait time.

Hey OP, don't forget to check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important EDD emails end up there. Learned that one the hard way 🤦‍♂️

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

I've heard mixed reviews about Claimyr. It seems effective for some, but not all. Does anyone else have experience with it?

Okay, here's the deal with SDI claims. I've been through this rodeo before: 1. Always over-communicate. If you're not sure if they need more info, send it anyway. 2. Those extra days might be because SDI weeks start on a Sunday. So if your claim started mid-week, they might pay you through the end of that week. 3. Keep a calendar of all your doctor's appointments and when you sent in paperwork. 4. If your doctor takes you off SDI, make sure you get that in writing ASAP. 5. Don't assume anything. Always ask for clarification. 6. If you get conflicting info, ask for a supervisor. Remember, you're your own best advocate. Don't be afraid to push for answers. Good luck!

I've been in a similar predicament with EDD before and I understand how frustrating it can be. Based on my experience and the advice from others in this community, here are some steps you could follow: 1. **Documentation is Key:** Ensure all medical documents, appointments, and communications with EDD are well-documented. Over-prepare rather than under-prepare. 2. **Direct Communication:** Sometimes, directly asking if more medical information is needed can clarify matters quickly. 3. **Understanding Payments:** The additional two days of payment could be due to the way SDI calculates weeks. Double-check with EDD to ensure this isn't a clerical error that might need to be corrected. 4. **Utilize Tools:** While Claimyr might seem like an additional cost, its effectiveness has been vouched for by some users, though it's wise to consider if it fits into your budget. 5. **Get Help from Representatives:** Reaching out to local representatives or assembly members might expedite the process if you're stuck. 6. **Be Assertive but Kind:** Patience combined with assertiveness often produces the best result when dealing with bureaucracy. 7. **Consider Alternatives:** If the EDD chatbot or call center isn't working for you, try their website FAQs or even community boards for additional insights. In sum, staying informed, organized, and proactive is your best strategy. Good luck, and hopefully, your claim gets resolved swiftly!

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help speed things up with EDD. Worked for me when I was stuck in limbo for weeks.

Amara Nnamani

I hadn't thought of that! Do you just call their office or is there a specific process for getting their help with EDD?
