SDI Payment Delay: 6+ Weeks After Giving Birth, No Funds Received. Help!
I'm pregnant and applied for SDI starting December 2nd. My due date was December 25th, but my baby came early on the 20th. It's been over 6 weeks since I applied, and I haven't received any payments from SDI after the 7-day waiting period. Does anyone know what could be causing this delay or how I can resolve it? I'm getting worried about finances and could really use some advice.

Have you checked if there are any pending documents or issues with your claim? Sometimes they need additional info and don't always notify you. Log into your SDI account and see if there's anything marked as incomplete or pending.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just checked my account and everything looks complete on my end. No pending documents or issues that I can see. It's so frustrating 😫

Yeah, I think you're right. I've been avoiding calling because I heard the wait times are insane, but I guess I don't have much choice at this point. 😞

I was in the same boat last year! It took them forever to process my claim. What worked for me was contacting my local assembly member's office. They have liaisons who can reach out to SDI directly and often get things moving faster. Google your district and give them a call!

Wow, I had no idea this was an option! Thank you so much for the tip. I'll definitely look into this. Did it take long for them to help you?

It took about a week for them to get back to me initially, but once they did, things moved pretty quickly. My claim was processed within 2 weeks after that. Good luck! 🍀

Hey there! Former EDD employee here. Here's a comprehensive guide to troubleshooting your SDI claim: 1. Double-check all your documents are submitted and correct. Even a small error can cause delays. 2. Ensure your doctor has submitted the medical certification. 3. If you've changed addresses recently, make sure SDI has your current info. 4. Check if your employer has submitted their required forms. 5. Look for any correspondence from SDI in your online account or mail. 6. If everything looks good on your end, it's time to contact them directly. For contacting SDI: - Try calling right when they open (8 AM) for shorter wait times. - Use the online contact form for non-urgent inquiries. - Consider the assembly member route as someone else suggested. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. I was desperate after weeks of trying to get through. For me, the $20 was worth it to finally get answers and get my claim moving.

Just tried it and it actually worked! Got through to someone in about 30 minutes. Tbh, I'd pay double that to avoid the usual 3+ hour wait 😅

Faxing? What year is it? 😂 But seriously, I'll try anything at this point. Do you know what number to fax?

lmao ikr? But don't knock it till you try it! The fax number should be on their website. Just send a brief letter explaining your situation and include your claim number. Fingers crossed for you! 🤞

This might sound crazy, but have you tried reaching out on Twitter? Sometimes public callouts get faster responses. Just be careful not to share any personal info!

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online interaction. If you end up needing to escalate, having a paper trail can make a huge difference.

That's a great idea! I'll start keeping a log. Do you think it's worth recording phone calls too? (If it's legal in my state, of course

Absolutely! Just make sure to inform the rep you're recording at the start of the call. CYA all the way!
