EDD account doesn't show hyphenated married name - help fixing for disability claim?

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my disability claim. My account doesn't have my full married name on it. It's just my maiden name, but I need it to show my hyphenated last name. Has anyone dealt with this before? What's the best way to get this fixed? I'm worried it might cause issues with my claim.

Ugh, I feel your pain! I had a similar issue when I got married. Here's what worked for me: 1. Call EDD directly (be prepared to wait forever) 2. Have your marriage certificate ready 3. Explain the situation calmly 4. Ask them to update your name in the system 5. Get a confirmation number or email It took about a week for the change to show up in my account. Good luck!

Thank you so much! Did you have any trouble with your claims during the name change process?

Nope! Everything went smoothly once I got through to them. Just make sure to follow up if you don't see the change after a week or so.

This is solid advice 💯 I wish I'd known this before I spent hours trying to figure it out on my own!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I'm skeptical. $20 just to make a phone call? 🤔

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

Can confirm, I used it last week and got through in like 30 minutes. Game changer!

Whatever you do, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Keep a log of who you talk to, when, and what they say. Trust me, it'll save you headaches later if there are any issues with your claim.

That's great advice, thank you! I'll definitely start keeping track.

Hey OP, just wondering - did you file your claim with your old name or the new one? Might make a difference in how you approach this.

I filed with my old name because that's what was on my account. Should I have used the new one?

Nah, you did the right thing. Always use the name that matches your current EDD records. Just make sure to get it updated ASAP.

Pro tip: if you cant get thru on the main line, try calling one of the foreign language lines and then ask to be transfered to an english speaking rep. works like a charm sometimes

Dude, that's genius! 🤯 Gonna try this next time I'm stuck on hold for hours.

idk if this helps but I had to fax in a copy of my marriage license to get my name changed. took forever but it eventually worked

Ugh, name changes are THE WORST. I'm still dealing with this mess 6 months after getting married. Social Security, DMV, bank accounts, now EDD... it never ends! 😫

Preach! 🙌 Sometimes I wonder if it was worth the hassle lol

I went through this exact same thing! Here's what worked for me: I called the EDD disability line first thing in the morning (around 8am) and explained that I needed my hyphenated married name updated to match my legal documents. They were actually pretty helpful once I got through. Make sure you have your marriage certificate, driver's license, and Social Security card all showing your new name before you call. The rep told me it could take up to 10 business days to update in the system, but mine showed up after about 5 days. Don't worry - it shouldn't affect your claim processing as long as you get it sorted out soon. Good luck!
