EDD account still has maiden name - Can I submit SDI claim for maternity leave or update first?
Hey everyone, I'm about to start my maternity leave and I'm submitting my SDI claim this week. I've got a bit of a problem though - my maiden name is still on my EDD account even though I changed it 3 years ago. Does anyone know if I can update this before submitting my claim? Or should I just submit under my maiden name since they ask for SSN anyway? I'm worried about messing up the claim and delaying my benefits. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Congrats on the baby! š I went through something similar last year. Here's what I learned: ⢠You can update your name on your EDD account, but it might take a few days to process ⢠If you're in a hurry, you can submit under your maiden name - just make sure to note your current legal name somewhere on the form ⢠Have a copy of your marriage certificate handy, they might ask for it ⢠Double check that your employer has your correct name on file ⢠If possible, call EDD directly to explain the situation before submitting Hope this helps! Good luck with everything!

ā¢Thank you so much for the detailed response! This is super helpful. I think I'll try to update my name first and if it takes too long, I'll submit under my maiden name. Fingers crossed it all works out!

ā¢Good advice here. Just wanna add - make sure you keep ALL your paperwork. The EDD can be a real pain sometimes and you might need to prove everything later.

ā¢Ugh, the EDD is such a nightmare to deal with. I swear they make everything 10x more complicated than it needs to be. š

I had the exact same issue! I ended up submitting under my maiden name and it worked out fine. Just make sure you're consistent with all your info across the board.

ā¢That's reassuring to hear! Did you have any issues with payments or anything after submitting?

ā¢Nope, everything went smoothly! Just took a couple weeks to start getting payments, but that's normal.

whatever you do, DO NOT submit under your maiden name if its different from whats on your w2s/paystubs. i made that mistake and it took MONTHS to sort out. not worth the headache trust me

Has anyone actually managed to get through to EDD on the phone lately? I've been trying for days and it's always busy or they hang up on me. š¤

ā¢I found a way! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20 but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

ā¢I'm skeptical. $20 just to make a phone call? Seems like a scam to me.

ā¢I get the skepticism, but it's legit. I was desperate after trying for weeks and it actually worked. Saved me hours of frustration. But yeah, it sucks we have to pay extra just to talk to someone. š¤·āāļø

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get our benefits? The system is broken af š¤

Quick question - does anyone know if changing your name on your EDD account affects your claim history or anything? I'm worried about messing up my past claims.

ā¢As far as I know, it shouldn't affect past claims. Your SSN stays the same, so that's what they use to track everything. But maybe double check with EDD to be sure?

Heads up yall, I heard EDD is implementing a new system soon. Might wanna wait a bit before making any account changes if you can. Just in case it messes things up during the transition.
