EDD Unemployment: No benefits for 5+ weeks, can't reach anyone - Help!
I haven't received my unemployment benefits in over a month. I'm getting really worried because bills are piling up. I submitted my continued benefits form, but I can't get through to anyone on the phone to confirm if they received it or if there's a problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to actually talk to a human at the unemployment office?

I heard a rumor that they're prioritizing new claims over continued benefits. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

That doesn't make any sense. Why would they do that?

Sounds like fake news to me. Don't spread rumors, it just makes everyone more anxious.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from them end up there. Just a thought!

I'm so sick of this. We're just trying to survive here and they make it impossible. Anyone else feel like the system is designed to make us give up? π‘

Preach! π It's like they think we're all trying to scam them or something. We just want what we're owed!

Calm down, Karen. They're probably just understaffed and overwhelmed. It sucks but getting angry won't help.

Has anyone tried going to the unemployment office in person? I'm thinking about camping out there until someone helps me lol

I tried that last week. They're not letting people in without an appointment, and guess what? You can't make an appointment without talking to someone on the phone first. It's a catch-22 π€‘

Bring a tent and some snacks. Maybe we can start an Occupy Unemployment movement π

Hey OP, how long ago did you submit your continued benefits form? Sometimes it can take a few weeks to process, especially if there's a holiday or something.

It's been about 5 weeks now. I know they say to allow time, but this seems excessive. I'm getting really worried.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken π€

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through. Worth every penny IMO.

How long did you have to wait once you used the service?

Anyone else notice that the website is always "under maintenance" when you try to log in? It's like they're actively trying to stop us from getting information π€

Has anyone tried contacting their state representative or senator? I've heard they can sometimes help push things along with unemployment issues.

I did this! It actually worked. Took about a week, but I finally got a call back from unemployment after my rep's office reached out.

There are online fax services you can use. Just Google it. Welcome to the 21st century, unemployment office! π

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, OP. Many people are facing similar issues with unemployment benefits during these times. One resource to consider is Claimyr, which helps facilitate calls with unemployment representatives, often bypassing long waiting times. While Claimyr's service costs $20, users have reported positive experiences with the platform. Nonetheless, it's important to weigh the cost against potential benefits. The state unemployment systems are currently overwhelmed due to unprecedented demand, leading to significant delays in processing claims and resolving issues. In addition to reaching out to your local representative, as suggested, you might also consider contacting a legal aid office for advice if the issue persists. They can often provide guidance on your rights and any steps you can take. Keep pressing on all available channels, including email and online contact forms, and maintain a record of your attempts to contact them. It's a stressful time, but stay persistent and proactive.

Check if your area has any rent assistance programs. Some places are offering help due to COVID.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Connor Murphy
Yeah, I've tried that. No luck. I even set an alarm for 5 minutes before they open and still couldn't get through. It's so frustrating!

Same here. I've tried calling at opening, lunch time, and right before closing. Nothing works. It's like playing the lottery π°

Here's what I've learned after dealing with this for months: 1. Be persistent. Call multiple times a day if you have to. 2. Have all your info ready when you call. They'll ask for your SSN, claim ID, etc. 3. Check your online account regularly for updates or messages. 4. If you can't get through by phone, try emailing or using their online contact form. 5. Consider reaching out to your local representative. They sometimes can help push things along. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system is overwhelmed, but keep trying. Good luck!
