EDD SDI Overpayment: Accidentally reported full-time work, how to fix $365 mistake?

I messed up and sent in the wrong form to EDD saying I was back to work full-time. Truth is, I'm only working a couple days a week and still qualify for partial SDI. Now I got a notice of overpayment. Anyone dealt with this before? I wanna fix it ASAP cause I heard its a nightmare to correct stuff with EDD. The overpayment is like $365 and I can pay it back right away, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Should I call the main EDD line or the Benefits Overpayment Section? Any advice on what to say when I get through?

I found a way to solve EDD overpayment correction issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdY4ug_HwL8

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? Sometimes they can help cut through the red tape with EDD. Worth a shot if you strike out with the regular channels.

Have you considered just ignoring it and hoping it goes away? (I'm kidding, don't do that. But man, it's tempting sometimes with how frustrating EDD can be

Haha, I wish we could! But yeah, ignoring it probably isn't the best strategy. 😅

Remember, the person you talk to at EDD is probably just as frustrated with the system as you are. A little kindness goes a long way. Kill 'em with kindness, as they say!

True! I've found that being nice sometimes gets you farther in these situations.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Wait, seriously? $20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

I get the skepticism, but I've used it twice now. Beats spending hours on hold or getting hung up on. Just sharing what worked for me 🤷‍♂️

How long did it take to get through using that service?

I think it depends on the time of day you call. I used it in the early afternoon and got through in about 30 minutes.

Anyone else feel like we need a support group for dealing with EDD? 😂 "Hi, my name is [redacted] and I've been trying to reach EDD for 3 months"

Count me in too! We could all use some moral support and humor given the EDD circus.

Pro tip: If you can't get through on the phone, try reaching out via social media. Sometimes their Twitter support is surprisingly responsive.

Really? I always thought social media was just a black hole for customer service. Good to know there's hope!

Unpopular opinion: Despite all its flaws, we're lucky to have a system like EDD. Try dealing with unemployment in some other countries. Not saying it's perfect, but it could be worse.

Lol, definitely not. Just trying to keep some perspective. Trust me, I've had my share of EDD headaches too

Keeping things in perspective is important. Sometimes we forget that other places might have it even tougher.

Been there, done that. Call the Benefits Overpayment Section directly. They're the ones who can sort this out quickest. When you get through, explain the mistake clearly and offer to pay right away. They'll appreciate the honesty and willingness to fix it.

Just a heads up, EDD has been updating their systems lately. Make sure you're using the most current forms and check their website for any new procedures. They love to change things without telling anyone 🙄

Thanks for the heads-up! I think I'm still using an older form—better update that ASAP.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I'll try calling the Benefits Overpayment Section first thing tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🤞

Here's what you should say: "Hello, I made a mistake on my form and accidentally reported returning to full-time work. I'm actually working reduced hours and still qualify for partial SDI. I received an overpayment notice for $365, which I can pay immediately. Can you guide me on how to correct this and process the payment?" Be polite, clear, and have all your info ready. Good luck!

I had a similar issue last year. Make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. Even if they say it's resolved over the phone, request a confirmation email or letter. Trust me, you'll thank me later if anything goes sideways.

That's a great tip! After dealing with EDD, having written proof is like having an insurance policy.

PSA: Always double-check your forms before submitting! I know it's a pain, but it can save you so much hassle down the line. Learned that one the hard way 😅

lol welcome to the wonderful world of EDD 🎪🤡 where the rules are made up and the forms don't matter

$365 overpayment? You got off easy, my friend. I'm still battling a $5k overpayment from 2021. EDD is like a black hole where logic and reason go to die.

Oof, that's rough. How did that even happen?

Long story short: EDD miscalculated my benefits, paid me too much for months, then decided it was somehow my fault. Still fighting it 🙃

That's terrible! I can't believe they can make such a big mistake and then make you responsible for it.

Ugh, EDD is such a mess 🤦‍♀️ I swear they make these forms confusing on purpose. Good luck getting through to anyone tho, their phone lines are always jammed

Totally agree! I remember calling them once and I was on hold for what felt like an eternity. It's like they want to make it as hard as possible to reach them. 😅
