EDD SDI Online login error - 'System Unavailable' message appearing for anyone else?

I've been trying to login to my SDI Online account for the past 2 days to check on my disability payment status and keep getting a 'System Unavailable' error message. The message says to try again later but it's been almost 48 hours now! Has anyone else experienced this recently? I need to certify by Friday or I'll miss my payment cycle. Is the system down for maintenance or something? My internet is working fine for everything else. Starting to panic a little since I really need this payment to come through on time.

yep same here since yesterday morning. super annoying!! tried on my phone and laptop, same error. edd needs to fix there crap lol

Ugh, thanks for confirming I'm not the only one at least. Did you call them? I tried calling but got stuck in that automated system forever.

This happens every quarter when they update their payment processing systems. It usually lasts 2-3 days and should be back up by tomorrow. Don't worry about your certification deadline - when this has happened before, EDD has extended the deadlines for everyone affected. Just check back tomorrow morning and you should be able to get in.

Not always true, last time this happened in October they didn't extend anything and people had to get backpay. The system is completely unreliable!!

I HATE THIS!!!! Third time this year the system crashed when I needed to certify. Called the main number 45 TIMES today and couldn't get through to anyone. This is ridiculous - some of us depend on this money for MEDICATIONS and RENT! How are we supposed to manage when they can't even keep their website running?

I understand your frustration, but there's actually a way to get through to an agent quickly. I've been using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you bypass the phone queues and get connected to an EDD agent. It helped me resolve my payment delay issue last month. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd The SDI representatives confirmed to me that even if the online system is down, they can still process certifications by phone, so it might be worth trying.

is this for unemployment or disability? i keep getting confused with all these different edd programs lol

This is for State Disability Insurance (SDI), not unemployment. They're different programs but both through EDD. SDI is when you're unable to work due to illness, injury, or pregnancy.

Just FYI - I was just able to log in about 10 minutes ago! The system seems to be back online now. I had the same error message for the past day and a half, but it's working for me now. Maybe try again?

OMG THANK YOU! Just tried again and I'm in too! Finally. Was able to complete my certification. Such a relief!

this happens like every other month i swear. my cousin works in IT and says their whole systems running on like 1980s technology or something. government needs to update there stuff!!

For future reference, if this happens again, you should know that the maintenance windows are usually posted on the EDD homepage, but they're easy to miss. They're typically scheduled between 11:30 PM and 3:30 AM on weekends, but sometimes emergency maintenance happens with little warning. Always try to certify at least 2-3 days before your deadline to avoid these issues.

That's really helpful, thanks! I'll definitely certify earlier next time and check for those maintenance notices.

When I had this problem I just kept refreshing the page like 20 times and eventually got in. Their servers are terrible.

I've been on SDI for chronic health issues for a few years now, and this seems to happen every few months. My doctor mentioned there are actually a couple different times you should avoid using the system: 1) around the 1st and 15th of the month when payments are being processed, and 2) during tax season when their systems are overloaded with people accessing tax documents. Just passing that along since it's helped me avoid most of these issues.

@Collins Angel SDI can actually last up to 52 weeks one (year for) a single disability period, but if you have ongoing chronic conditions, you might need to reapply with new medical documentation. Some people cycle on and off SDI depending on their health conditions. It s'different from the regular short-term disability that many people think of.

I had the same issue last week and found that clearing my browser cache and cookies helped. Sometimes the EDD site gets stuck with old session data. Also, if you're still having trouble, try using a different browser or incognito/private mode. I've noticed Chrome works better than Safari for the EDD site. Hope this helps someone avoid the stress I went through!

That's a great tip about clearing the cache! I'll definitely try that next time before panicking. I was using Safari when I had the issue, so maybe switching to Chrome would help too. It's frustrating that we have to troubleshoot basic website functionality for something as important as disability benefits, but at least there are workarounds. Thanks for sharing!

I'm new to SDI and this is really scary! I just applied last month for a back injury and was supposed to certify for the first time this week. Reading all these comments about system crashes and payment delays is making me so anxious. Does this mean my first payment could be delayed too? I'm already struggling financially since I can't work, and I was counting on this payment to cover my bills. Should I be doing anything differently as a new claimant to avoid these issues?

Hey @Tobias Lancaster, I totally understand your anxiety - being new to this system can be really overwhelming! From what I've seen in this thread, it sounds like the system is back up and running now, so you should be able to certify. A few tips that might help: try to certify a few days before your deadline (not last minute), clear your browser cache if you run into errors, and keep the EDD phone number handy just in case. The good news is that even when there are delays, EDD usually processes everything eventually - it's just stressful waiting. You've got this! And don't hesitate to ask questions here - everyone's been really helpful sharing their experiences.

I've been dealing with SDI for about 8 months now and can confirm this system outage pattern is unfortunately pretty common. What really helped me was setting up email notifications through my EDD account (if you can access it when the system is working) - they'll send you reminders about certification deadlines and sometimes maintenance windows. Also, I keep screenshots of my certification confirmations just in case there are any disputes later. The system being back online is great news! For anyone still having issues, sometimes switching between the mobile app and desktop site can work when one isn't loading properly.

This is really helpful advice about the email notifications and screenshots! I wish I had known about these features when I first started on SDI. The screenshot tip is especially smart - I've heard horror stories about people having to prove they submitted their certifications on time when the system glitched. Thanks for sharing these practical tips, it's exactly the kind of insider knowledge that makes navigating this system so much easier for newcomers like me!

I'm so glad to see the system is back up and working! I've been lurking in this community for a while but this is my first time posting. I had a similar issue earlier this week - couldn't log in for about 36 hours and was getting really stressed about missing my certification deadline. Reading through all these comments has been super helpful, especially the tips about clearing browser cache and trying different browsers. It's reassuring to know this is a common issue and not just something wrong with my account. Definitely going to start certifying earlier in my window and set up those email notifications that @NeonNebula mentioned. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions - this community is a lifesaver for navigating the EDD system!

Welcome to posting! I'm fairly new to this community too and it's amazing how helpful everyone is here. Your experience sounds exactly like what I went through last month - that 36-hour period of not being able to access the system is so stressful when you're depending on these benefits. I'm definitely taking notes from all these experienced members about the email notifications and early certification. It's such a relief to know these outages are "normal" (even though they shouldn't be) and that there are workarounds. Thanks for sharing your story - it helps to know others are going through the same struggles with this system!

I'm new to this community and just wanted to say how grateful I am for all the helpful advice shared here! I've been on SDI for about 3 months now and had no idea about some of these tips like setting up email notifications or taking screenshots of certifications. I actually experienced a similar login issue about 2 weeks ago and ended up calling the phone line multiple times with no luck. Next time I'll definitely try the browser cache clearing and switching browsers first. It's both frustrating and comforting to know these system outages are so common - frustrating because we depend on these benefits, but comforting because it means it's not just me struggling with the technology. Thanks to everyone who shares their experiences and solutions here - it really makes navigating this whole system less overwhelming!

Welcome to the community! It's really great to see how supportive everyone is here. I'm also relatively new - just joined a few months ago when I started having my own EDD issues. The learning curve with this system is definitely steep, but reading through threads like this one has been invaluable. I had no idea about the screenshot tip either until I saw @NeonNebula mention it - now I make sure to document everything! It's unfortunate that we have to become experts in troubleshooting government websites just to access our benefits, but at least we can help each other out. Thanks for sharing your experience too - the more people who contribute their stories, the more we all learn about navigating these challenges.

I'm new to SDI and this community has been incredibly helpful! I've been reading through all the comments and taking notes on the troubleshooting tips. I actually just started my disability claim this month for a chronic condition and had no idea about the email notifications or taking screenshots - definitely setting those up! It's both reassuring and frustrating to see how common these system outages are. At least I know now to certify early in my window and have backup plans. Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences and making this process less scary for newcomers like me!
