EDD Leave Extension & PFL Activation: Filed in Oct, No Updates. What to Do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my leave extension and PFL activation. I filed for an extension back in October, but I haven't heard anything back yet. Has anyone else been in this situation? I'm wondering if I should call EDD to check on the status or if there's a better way to handle this. Also, I want to make sure PFL knows about my claim end date. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, I feel ya. The EDD is such a mess rn. I had to wait MONTHS to hear back about my claim. Have you tried checking your online account? Sometimes they update stuff there without sending notifications.

Thanks for the tip! I've been checking my online account obsessively, but no updates there either. It's so frustrating 😫

Pro tip: screenshot everything in ur account. EDD has a habit of 'losing' info 🙄

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

I was skeptical too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

$20 to actually talk to a human? might be worth it at this point lol

Here's what I'd do: 1. Keep trying to call EDD directly. Early mornings tend to have shorter wait times. 2. Send a message through your online account asking for a status update. 3. If you have a disability insurance claim, contact that office separately about PFL. 4. Consider contacting your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes expedite things. 5. Document EVERYTHING. Dates, times, who you spoke to, etc. Hang in there! The system is frustrating, but persistence usually pays off.

This is solid advice. I'd add: if u do get thru, ask for a reference number for the call. It helps if u need to follow up later.

am i the only 1 who thinks its ridiculous we have to jump thru all these hoops just to get basic info about our claims? 🤡 the whole system needs an overhaul fr

Quick question - when you say you filed in October, was that for the original claim or the extension? The timeline matters for processing.

It was for the extension. My original claim was from July.

Gotcha. Yeah, extensions can take longer to process. Still, 3+ months is excessive. Def time to start making some noise.

Not to be that person, but have you checked your spam folder? I almost missed an important EDD email cuz it went straight to spam 🤦♀️

OMG I didn't even think of that! Checking now... but nope, nothing there either. Good suggestion tho!

I had a similar issue last year. Turns out there was a glitch in their system and my extension request never actually got processed. Had to refile. Might be worth asking specifically if they can see your extension request in the system.
