EDD: ID and Driver's License linked to wrong account - Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. Just found out my ID number and Driver's License number are linked to someone else's account. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm not sure how it happened or what to do next. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Luca Romano

Oof, that's rough buddy. I had a similar issue last year. First thing you should do is gather all your documents - ID, driver's license, any EDD correspondence. Then when you call, explain the situation clearly and ask what steps you need to take to fix it. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Did it take long to resolve when you went through it?

It took about 2 weeks for me, but I've heard it can vary. Just stay on top of it and don't be afraid to follow up!

This happened to my cousin! Turns out it was identity theft. Make sure you check your credit report ASAP!

Ugh, the EDD system is such a mess. I swear they make these mistakes on purpose to make it harder for us to get benefits. 🙄

C'mon guys, let's not assume malice. The system is overloaded and mistakes happen. It sucks, but they're trying their best.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

$20 to talk to someone at a government agency? That's ridiculous. This system is so broken.

I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Write down when you discovered the issue and any other relevant details. 2. Gather all your identification documents (ID, driver's license, social security card, etc.) 3. Contact the EDD immediately. Be prepared to wait on hold for a while. 4. When you get through, explain the situation calmly and clearly. Ask for a case number or reference number for your issue. 5. Request written confirmation of your report and any steps they're taking to resolve it. 6. Follow up regularly until it's resolved. 7. Consider placing a fraud alert on your credit reports, just in case. 8. Keep an eye on your mail for any communications from EDD. Remember, stay patient but persistent. These things can take time to resolve, but don't let them forget about your case. Good luck!
