EDD DE 2517-17 Notice: Need help adjusting claim date for SDI
Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my state disability claim. I got this notice (DE 2517-17) saying I need to adjust my claim date. Apparently, the beginning date has to be at least one day after my last day of work. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do next? I'm worried about not getting paid on time.

Ugh, I've been there. It's such a pain dealing with all this paperwork. Here's what you need to do: • Get your last day of work info ready • Call them ASAP • Tell them you got the DE 2517-17 notice and need to adjust your claim date • Give them your last working day • Ask them to update it for you After the call, make sure to get any changes in writing or check their online portal to confirm everything's good. Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I had to do something similar last year. Just make sure you're super clear about your last day worked - they can be real sticklers about that.

•Quick question - do you know if there's a time limit on making these adjustments? I'm in a similar boat but I've been putting it off 😬

•@profile 3 Don't put it off too long! I think you have like 10 days from when you get the notice, but don't quote me on that. Better to call ASAP and get it sorted.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•20 bucks? That's kinda steep just to talk to someone...

•I get the skepticism, but honestly, after spending hours trying to get through, it was worth it for me. Saved me so much time and frustration.

•How long did you have to wait once they started calling?

•@profile 10 It took about an hour, but I just went about my day and they called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than being stuck on hold myself.

Has anyone else noticed that the EDD seems to be extra strict lately? I've been hearing so many stories about claim dates being off by just a day or two and causing all sorts of problems.

Quick tip: take screenshots of EVERYTHING. Every notice, every confirmation, every email. You never know when you'll need to prove something later.

idk why they make this so complicated. in other countries, this stuff is automatic. we're living in 2023 and still dealing with this nonsense 🤦♀️

•Preach! 🙌 My cousin in Canada says their system is so much easier.

•Yeah but other countries have higher taxes to pay for those systems. It's not all sunshine and rainbows

•@profile 16 fair point, but I'd rather pay a bit more in taxes than deal with this stress tbh

Hey OP, just curious - how long did it take for you to receive that notice after you initially filed your claim?

Pro tip: if you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try calling right when they open in the morning. I've had better luck that way.

•This! Also, avoid calling on Mondays if you can. Those are usually the busiest days.

I went through the exact same thing a few months ago with the DE 2517-17 notice! The key thing is to be super precise with your dates. When you call, have your employment records handy - pay stubs, termination letter, anything that shows your exact last day of work. The disability claim start date has to be the day AFTER your last day worked, not the same day. I made that mistake initially and had to go through this whole correction process. Once I got it sorted out, my payments resumed normally. Just don't wait too long to call - they're pretty strict about the response timeframe on these notices.

•Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This is really helpful. Just to clarify - when you say the disability claim start date has to be the day AFTER your last day worked, does that mean if I worked on a Friday, my claim should start on Saturday? Also, how long did it take for your payments to resume once you got everything corrected?
