Y'all need to chill. The EDD is dealing with millions of claims. Of course it's gonna take time. Just be patient and stop whining.
I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed my medical form 3 weeks ago and still showing as pending. From reading through all these comments, it seems like 4-6 weeks is pretty normal unfortunately. I'm definitely going to try the fax option that @Ava Johnson mentioned - didn't even think of that! Also going to follow @Jamal Carter's advice about calling my assembly member if it goes much longer. This whole process is so stressful when you're already dealing with health issues. Hang in there @Mateo Martinez, sounds like we just have to ride it out 😔
Same boat here! Just hit the 3 week mark myself. It's so frustrating especially when you're already dealing with health stuff and financial stress. Thanks for mentioning the fax tip - I'm definitely going to look into that too. We really shouldn't have to jump through all these hoops just to get the help we need. Hope yours gets processed soon! 🤞
I'm a new mom dealing with this exact same issue! Just wanted to add that you should also double-check if your claim includes any "pre-delivery" disability days. Sometimes EDD counts those toward your total 8 weeks, which can be confusing. I learned this the hard way when I thought I was missing weeks but it turned out they had already paid me for some bed rest time before delivery. Also, if you do end up needing to appeal or resubmit paperwork, don't let it delay filing for PFL - you can run them concurrently as long as the dates don't overlap. Hope you get this sorted out soon! Being a new parent is hard enough without EDD drama 😅
Oh wow, I hadn't thought about pre-delivery days being counted toward the total! That could totally explain what happened. I did have some complications toward the end that required me to stop working a few days before delivery, so maybe those days are already included in my 6 weeks. I'll definitely check my claim details to see if that's the case. And thanks for the heads up about running SDI and PFL concurrently - that's really good to know since I was worried about timing everything perfectly. This community has been such a lifesaver with all the helpful advice! 💕
Hey Aisha! First off, congrats on your little one! 🎉 I just went through this exact situation a few months ago. You're absolutely right that c-sections should get 8 weeks of SDI, not 6. Here's what worked for me: 1. Log into your EDD account online and check if your claim shows "cesarean delivery" or just "normal delivery" - this is crucial! 2. Contact your doctor's office ASAP to confirm they submitted form DE 2501 with the correct delivery method marked 3. If they marked it wrong, have them resubmit with "cesarean section" clearly indicated 4. Keep copies of EVERYTHING - your discharge papers, doctor notes, anything showing it was a c-section I had to wait about 2-3 weeks for the correction to process, but I did get those missing 2 weeks paid retroactively. Don't let EDD's phone system discourage you - keep trying or use one of the callback services mentioned above. You've got this mama! 💪
As someone who went through a similar back injury situation, I just wanted to add that it's totally normal to feel nervous about returning to work, especially with a physical job. Since you mentioned your work involves heavy lifting, you might want to ask your employer about any accommodations they can make during your first few weeks back - like lighter duties or modified tasks. Many employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations under the ADA. Also, don't hesitate to communicate with your doctor if you start having increased pain after returning. It's better to address issues early rather than push through and risk a more serious re-injury. Good luck with your return to work!
That's really great advice about asking for accommodations! I hadn't thought about that but it makes total sense. My employer has been pretty understanding so far, so hopefully they'll work with me on modified duties for the first few weeks. I'm definitely going to keep a close eye on how my back feels and not try to be a hero about it. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's reassuring to hear from someone who went through something similar.
I went through something very similar with my SDI claim last year! The remaining benefit amount definitely threw me off at first too. Just to add to what everyone else has said - when you do go back to work, make sure you keep all your documentation from EDD about when your claim officially ended. I had to provide proof to my employer's HR department that my disability leave was properly closed out. Also, if your workplace has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), they might be able to help you navigate the transition back to work and any accommodation requests. The first few weeks back can be mentally challenging too, not just physically. Take care of yourself!
I went through this exact same nightmare a few months ago! What finally worked for me was calling EDD directly and explaining the ID.me situation. They were able to put a note on my file and process my claim through their alternative verification process. The number is hard to get through to, but keep trying early in the morning (like 8:01 AM sharp). Also, if you have any physical documents like your SSN card, birth certificate, or previous tax returns, have them ready - they might ask you to mail or fax copies. Don't lose hope, there are ways around this ID.me mess!
I just went through this exact same issue last month! Here's what finally worked for me: I called the EDD disability line at 1-800-480-3287 and pressed 1 for English, then 4 for disability, then 0 to speak to a rep. When I explained my ID.me was suspended, they transferred me to their technical support team who was able to bypass the ID.me requirement and let me file over the phone. It took about 2 hours total (including hold time) but they processed everything right then and there. Also, make sure you have your Social Security number, previous employer info, and medical documentation ready before you call. The key is being persistent and explaining that the ID.me suspension is preventing you from filing your claim. Don't give up - there are definitely workarounds!

Anyone else notice that SDI seems to be getting worse lately? I swear it wasn't this bad a few years ago. Budget cuts maybe?

•Yep, I've heard they're understaffed and overworked. Doesn't excuse the poor service, but might explain it.

•It's definitely gotten worse since COVID. They're probably still catching up.

I'm dealing with something similar! After my third attempt sending docs, I started taking screenshots of everything in their online portal and keeping detailed records. One thing that helped me was sending a secure message through the SDI Online portal in addition to mailing/faxing - at least then you have a digital trail showing you contacted them. Also, try calling right at 8 AM when they open - I finally got through that way after weeks of busy signals. Don't give up, you'll get your payment! 💪

•This is really helpful advice! I didn't know you could send secure messages through the online portal - I'll definitely try that along with calling at 8 AM sharp. Having a digital trail sounds like a smart way to cover all bases. Thanks for sharing what worked for you! 🙏
