CalWORKs recertification approved yesterday - will benefits load on time for my regular issuance day (2nd)?
I just finished my CalWORKs recertification process and I'm worried about when I'll actually see the money. My interview was on the 29th, and they finally finished processing everything yesterday (showed completed in BenefitsCal). My regular benefit day is the 2nd of each month for my Cash Aid. Does anyone know if I'll still get my benefits loaded on time tomorrow or will there be a delay because the recertification was just approved? Really counting on having this money for rent since my landlord doesn't care about benefit delays...

If your recertification was approved and showing as 'completed' in BenefitsCal yesterday, you should still receive your benefits on your regular issuance date (the 2nd). The system is automated for benefit issuance and as long as the worker completed processing in time, the benefits should be loaded normally. Sometimes it can take up to 24 hours after processing for the system to update though.

•Thank u! Thats a big relief. I tried calling this morning but of course just got the automated system. Would be nice if they'd just tell us this stuff when we do our interview!

Omg mine was exactly the same boat last month!! I panicked because my interview was 2 days before my issuance date and benefits came right on time. As long as its showing completed in the system youre good!!

it really depends on your county i think. mines orange county and they are ALWAYS late after recert. like 3-4 days late minimum. so frustrating when bills are due but what can you do

•Ugh that's what I'm afraid of... I'm in San Bernardino County. My worker said everything was approved but didn't say anything about when the money would actually show up. Seems like they should tell us this important info!

•Each county can be different, but generally if it shows as completed in the system by the day before your issuance date, you should receive your benefits on time. The exception is if your recertification was submitted very late or had missing verification documents. In those cases, there can be delays of 3-5 business days after approval.

Did u have to submit any additional documents? When i did my last recert they said it was approved but then sent me a verification request for paystubs 2 days later and my benefits were delayed til I submitted them. Check ur BenefitsCal account for any pending verification requests

•No they didn't request anything else. I brought EVERYTHING to my interview so she said i was good to go. The BenefitsCal just says Completed for my renewal. No tasks or anything showing.

This happens ALL THE TIME with CalWORKs and it's ridiculous! They expect us to just magically know how their stupid system works. I've been on Cash Aid for 3 years and had delays TWICE after recertification even though they said I was approved. It's because they enter it in the system but sometimes it doesn't process until the next payment cycle. And good luck trying to reach anyone to fix it when it happens!!! 🤬

•If you're having trouble reaching your CalWORKs worker, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me actually get through. They hold your place in line and call you back when a real person answers. Saved me hours of waiting. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE and their website is claimyr.com. I was skeptical but it actually works when you absolutely need to talk to someone about a benefit issue.

In most counties, as long as your CalWORKs recertification was processed and showing as "completed" in the system at least 24 hours before your normal issuance date, your benefits should be available on your regular day. The fact that BenefitsCal shows it as completed is a good sign. However, there are a few things that could potentially delay it: 1. If you had any WTW (Welfare to Work) participation issues during your last certification period that weren't resolved 2. If there were changes to your household composition or income that required additional verification 3. If you're approaching your 48-month time limit and the system needs manual adjustment If your benefits aren't available on the 2nd, call your county office first thing in the morning. Ask specifically about the "issuance status" of your benefits, not just whether you're approved.

•Thank you for this detailed answer. I'm exempt from WTW right now because I have a child under 24 months, so that shouldn't be an issue. And I've only been on CalWORKs for about 18 months total so not close to the time limit. Fingers crossed everything loads normally tomorrow!

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that my benefits did load on time this morning! So if anyone searches this in the future - yes, benefits CAN load on your regular day even if recertification was just completed the day before. Thank you all for your help!

So happy to see this worked out for you! I'm going through my recertification right now and was worried about the same thing. My interview is next week and my issuance date is the 15th, so this gives me hope that if everything gets processed in time, I won't have to stress about delays. It's really frustrating how they don't explain the timing of when benefits actually load after approval - seems like basic info they should tell everyone during the interview process.
