When will P-EBT cards reload in 2025? My kids got theirs in November but haven't seen January benefits
Hi CalFresh community! My 3 kids received their P-EBT 3.0 cards back in November 2025 with about $1,350 total on them. I was under the impression these would be reloaded monthly, but it's mid-January now and nothing has shown up. Does anyone know if there's a specific day of the month these cards reload? Or maybe I misunderstood how the program works? My kids are still eligible for free school meals, so I'm confused why we haven't gotten anything for January. Thanks for any info!

•Thanks for responding! Yeah the letter was definitely confusing. I thought it said something about monthly benefits but maybe I read it wrong. I guess I'll wait a bit longer before panicking lol

P-EBT 3.0 is actually not a monthly benefit like regular CalFresh EBT. The November 2025 issuance was a one-time payment covering several months of pandemic-related food benefits for eligible school children. The program provides retroactive payments for periods when schools had limited in-person attendance or COVID closures. There's no January reload scheduled. However, if additional school pandemic closures occur and are approved for P-EBT coverage, they would issue new payments, but that's not on a regular monthly schedule. You should keep the cards though, as any future payments would go to the same cards.

•Oh wow, thanks for clarifying! I totally misunderstood then. So basically these were just catch-up payments for past periods, not ongoing monthly benefits? That makes more sense why nothing showed up in January.

i got so confused with these P-EBT cards too!!!! the regular calfresh EBT loads monthly but these pandemic ones are different. my kids got cards in 2024 then nothing for months then suddenly got more $ in november 2025. its all whenever the government decides to give more i think

•That makes sense! I think I confused it with regular CalFresh which my sister gets monthly. At least I know not to expect anything specific now. Appreciate you sharing your experience!

To add some clarity: P-EBT 3.0 benefits are issued based on school pandemic closures or limited attendance periods. The November 2025 payment was actually covering eligible dates from the previous school year. The program requires federal approval for each issuance, so there's no regular schedule. If you're concerned about ongoing food assistance, you might want to apply for regular CalFresh benefits, which do provide monthly food assistance based on household income. You can have both P-EBT and CalFresh simultaneously if you qualify.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! That makes much more sense now. We don't quite qualify for regular CalFresh based on our income, but the P-EBT was a big help for a few months. I'll keep the cards just in case any future benefits get approved.

When I called about my kids' P-EBT I was on hold FOREVER and kept getting disconnected!! So frustrating. Finally my friend told me about Claimyr.com which helped me actually get through to a person. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 - basically they wait on hold for you and call you when they get someone. The worker confirmed P-EBT isn't a regular monthly thing like regular CalFresh. Saved me hours of frustration!

The whole P-EBT system is SO CONFUSING!!! My kids got cards in 2024, then more money in early 2025, and then another payment in November 2025. Each time the amounts were different and the timing was completely random. The CalFresh office keeps giving different answers when I call. One worker told me it was monthly, another said it was one-time only. MAKE UP YOUR MINDS PEOPLE!!!

•You're right that the communication about P-EBT has been inconsistent. To clarify: Each P-EBT issuance requires separate federal approval, which is why they come at irregular intervals. The November 2025 payment was for previous eligible school days, not for future benefits. Unlike regular CalFresh, P-EBT is specifically tied to pandemic impacts on school attendance.

wait is this the same as regular calfresh ebt? my family gets benefits on the 10th of each month but my neighbors kid got a different card and she said it was some school thing??

•No, they're actually different programs. Regular CalFresh EBT benefits come monthly on a schedule based on your case number. P-EBT is specifically for eligible schoolchildren during pandemic-related school closures or limited attendance. The cards look similar but P-EBT cards have the student's name (not the parent's) and are specifically for pandemic food benefits. You can have both programs if you qualify.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses! I think I understand now - P-EBT isn't a regular monthly benefit but rather special payments for pandemic-related school disruptions. I'll keep the cards in case future payments are approved, but won't expect monthly reloads like I initially thought. Really appreciate all the clarification!
