When are P-EBT 3.0 cards being mailed out in 2025? One-time or multiple payments?
Does anyone have info about when the new round of P-EBT 3.0 cards will arrive? I have 2 elementary school kids who receive free school meals, and I heard California approved a new P-EBT program for 2025. Are these cards loaded just once, or will they get multiple payments throughout the year? I checked the BenefitsCal website but couldn't find any clear timeline for when we might expect them in the mail. My kids' school said they'd be distributed "soon" but that was over a month ago. Getting worried because grocery prices keep going up!

•Thanks! That's helpful to know some are already going out. Did she have to activate it or anything? And was the envelope clearly marked as P-EBT or did it look like regular mail? I'm worried I might have thrown it away by accident...

P-EBT 3.0 cards for 2025 are being mailed in phases based on county and school district. The official CalFresh website states distribution began March 15th and will continue through June 2025. Each eligible child receives one card with a single payment amount based on how many school days they qualified for free/reduced meals (typically $8.28 per eligible school day). The cards come in white envelopes from "California P-EBT" and require activation by phone. Keep your mailing address updated with your child's school to ensure delivery. Unlike regular CalFresh benefits, P-EBT is a one-time payment for the entire 2024-2025 school year, not a monthly benefit.

I've been trying to get through to someone at the P-EBT hotline for days about this same issue. The automated system is useless and I keep getting disconnected after waiting 45+ minutes. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get a callback from an actual P-EBT specialist yesterday. They confirmed cards are being mailed on a rolling basis through June and explained my kids' cards should arrive by end of April based on our zip code. They have a quick video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 The specialist also confirmed it's a single payment, not monthly, and told me exactly what to look for in the mail so I don't miss it.

•Thank you!!! I'm going to try this because I've been getting nowhere with the regular hotline. Did they give you any specific info about how much the payment will be? Is it based on how many days your kids were in school?

To clarify some confusion I'm seeing: P-EBT 3.0 and CalFresh are different programs, though both provide food assistance. P-EBT is specifically for families with children who would receive free or reduced-price meals at school. The 2025 P-EBT 3.0 benefit amount is calculated at $8.28 per school day for qualifying students. Important details: - Cards are mailed once, with a single payment (not recurring monthly) - Benefits remain valid for 274 days from issuance - No application is required if your child already receives free/reduced meals - P-EBT cards look different from regular EBT cards (white with "P-EBT" on them) - You must activate by phone using your child's date of birth and the last 4 digits of their case number (included in the letter) If you have questions about your specific case, you'll need to speak with a representative directly.

•Wait I'm confuse... my kids are on Medical so they automatically get the free lunch at school but we don't get CalFresh. Will they still get the P-EBT cards? And how will they know where to mail them if I never applied for anything?

Yes, if your children automatically receive free lunch through their Medi-Cal eligibility, they should still qualify for P-EBT 3.0. The school district provides the student information and address to the P-EBT program administration. The cards will be mailed to the address on file with your children's school, so make sure that's current. This is why it's important to ensure your address is updated with the school office. If you've moved recently and haven't updated your information, you should contact the school immediately.

•Oh thank goodness! Yes their school has our current address. I was worried we'd miss out because we never applied for anything specific. Does this mean we'll get 2 separate cards (one for each kid)?

When I called about this last week they told me the cards were delayed because of a "printing issue" whatever that means. The whole system is so frustrating! Last year my daughter got a card but my son didn't even though they're at the same school with the same lunch program. Make it make sense!!!

Thanks everyone for the helpful information. I called my kids' school this morning and they confirmed all student information was submitted to the P-EBT program in February. They said cards for our district should start arriving mid-April through May based on alphabetical order. I'll watch for the white envelope and make sure not to throw it out! Really appreciate all your help figuring this out.

•Great to hear you got some clarity! One more tip: when the cards arrive, activate them immediately. The P-EBT phone system can get overwhelmed when many cards arrive at once, and some people report waiting days to get through. Also, write down the card numbers and PINs somewhere safe after activation in case you need to report a lost card later.
