CalFresh EBT deposits happening tonight or tomorrow morning? Need to grocery shop ASAP
Does anyone know exactly when CalFresh benefits post to our EBT cards tonight? My card is completely empty and I'm running on fumes here. My benefits always come on the 4th, and technically that's today, but do they actually deposit at midnight? Or is it like sometime tomorrow morning? I'm seriously exhausted but will force myself to stay up and go to the 24-hour grocery store if benefits will actually post at 12am. Otherwise I'll just sleep and go tomorrow. This is my first month with the 4th as my benefit date (used to be on the 10th but got switched during recertification for some reason). Thanks for any info!

CalFresh benefits are usually deposited between 12am-6am on your assigned day. It's based on the last digit of your case number. Since you mentioned the 4th is your day, that means your case number probably ends in 4. Most counties process the deposits overnight, but I've noticed they're usually available by 2am in most cases. I wouldn't stay up specifically waiting - you'll likely have them when you wake up tomorrow morning.

•Thank you!! I'm way too tired to wait until 2am anyway lol. First time cutting it this close with groceries but some unexpected expenses this month threw everything off. Appreciate the info!

•That's not how it works for everyone though. Mine never comes before midnight and sometimes doesn't show up until like 4am. Don't give false hope lol

I've been on CalFresh for 3 years and my benefits CONSISTENTLY deposit between 1-3am on my assigned day. I'm on the 8th of the month schedule but the timing should be the same regardless of your day. Don't stay up - you're just torturing yourself! Also be aware that sometimes the EBT system does maintenance overnight which can cause delays - I've had times where benefits didn't show up until 8am because of system updates. Go get some sleep!

•Wow thank you for the detailed info! I've never heard about the maintenance thing, good to know. Definitely going to sleep now - was just panicking because my kids have been asking for snacks and I literally have nothing left. I'll just explain we're going grocery shopping first thing tomorrow.

If you've recently had your benefit date changed during recertification, I'd absolutely double-check that the 4th is actually your correct date. Sometimes there are miscommunications during the recertification process and you might have misunderstood. I'd hate for you to be expecting benefits tomorrow when they're actually scheduled for a different day. You can verify your exact benefit date by: 1. Checking your most recent Notice of Action letter 2. Looking at the BenefitsCal website under your case details 3. Calling the EBT customer service number on the back of your card If you need to speak with someone at your county office to confirm but can't get through, try Claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold with the CalFresh office for you and call you back when a real person answers. Their video demo shows how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8

The EBT system is SO FRUSTRATING sometimes!!! Mine was supposed to deposit on the 1st and didn't show up until the 3rd this month with ZERO explanation!! Called and got the runaround about "processing delays" but they couldn't tell me why it happened! So don't even count on it being there on the "right" day sometimes!

•This is actually not normal and you should file a complaint if it happens again. CalFresh benefits are required by federal law to be made available on your assigned day. If they're consistently late, the county office has to investigate why.

•That's a good idea! I've checked the app already but sometimes the app isn't as up-to-date as the phone line. I'll do that in the morning.

Just to provide some additional context: CalFresh benefits in California are distributed over the first 10 days of each month based on the last digit of your case number. If your case number ends in 4, you'll get benefits on the 4th. Benefits are uploaded overnight, usually starting around midnight, but the exact timing varies by county and processing systems. One thing to note - if the 4th falls on a weekend or holiday, your benefits should still be deposited on that day (unlike some other government benefits that shift to the previous business day).

•Ugh wish ALL government benefits worked on weekends! My disability payment always gets pushed to Friday when it falls on a weekend and then CalFresh is still on its normal day and it messes up my whole budget system!!!

Hey, just wanted to check if your benefits came through this morning? I've been hearing about some counties having system delays this month and was curious if you got yours as expected.

•Yes! They were there when I woke up at 7am. Thanks everyone for the help! Got groceries this morning and we're all set now. For anyone searching this in the future - benefits did post overnight on my assigned day (the 4th).
