DMV Written Test Appointment Impossible to Get - License Expiring Soon! Help!
I'm in a real pickle here. My driver's license is expiring soon and I need to take the written test, but I can't find any available appointments online. Every single place I check says there are no slots open. I've got to get this done before July or my license will expire. Anyone have any tips on how to snag an appointment or alternative options? I'm getting desperate here!

Ugh, I feel your pain! The DMV appointment system is a total nightmare. Have you tried calling them directly? Sometimes they have cancellations that don't show up online.

ā¢Good luck with that lol. I spent 3 hours on hold last time I tried calling the DMV. Its like they dont want us to renew our licenses š

ā¢Yikes, that sounds rough. Maybe try calling right when they open? Might have better luck then.

Pro tip: Check the website at midnight. Sometimes they release new appointments then. I managed to snag one that way last month.

Have you considered going to a different county? Sometimes less populated areas have more availability. It might be worth the drive if you're really in a time crunch.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Qx3ceuzXYcQ

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

ā¢Totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

ā¢How does it work exactly? Do they just keep redialing until they get through?

ā¢From what I understand, they use some kind of AI to navigate the phone menus and detect when a human picks up. Then it calls you. Pretty clever stuff!

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before and I've got some tips that might help you out: ⢠First off, don't panic. The DMV usually has a grace period after your license expires. Check your state's rules, but you might have some extra time. ⢠Try checking for appointments at different times of day. The system often updates in the early morning or late at night. ⢠Look for DMV offices in smaller towns or suburbs. They tend to be less busy and might have more openings. ⢠Some states offer online practice tests. Take advantage of these while you wait for your appointment. It'll make the actual test a breeze. ⢠If all else fails, show up in person and explain your situation. Sometimes they can squeeze you in, especially if your license is about to expire. ⢠Lastly, start this process earlier next time. Set a reminder for yourself 6 months before your license expires. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

ā¢Some states do allow online renewal now. But yeah, the system could use a major overhaul.

Have you tried walking in without an appointment? I know it's not ideal, but sometimes they'll take walk-ins if they have cancellations or no-shows.

ā¢I hadn't thought of that! Do you know if they tend to be more lenient with walk-ins early in the day or later?

ā¢In my experience, earlier is usually better. Fewer people and the staff isn't burnt out yet. But YMMV!

Oof, been there done that. The DMV is like playing the lottery, except instead of winning money, you win the chance to stand in line for hours š

Hey OP, just a heads up - some states are offering extensions on expiring licenses due to the backlog from COVID. Might be worth checking if that applies in your area!
