DC UCC search showing weird results - anyone else having portal issues?
Been trying to run a DC UCC search for the past 3 days and getting inconsistent results every time I refresh. Same debtor name, same search criteria, but different filings appear each time. Yesterday showed 4 active UCC-1s, today only showing 2. One of them is definitely a continuation we filed last month that should be visible. Anyone else experiencing glitches with the DC portal lately? This is for a $2.8M equipment refinance and we need accurate lien position data before closing next week. Getting nervous about what we might be missing.

The DC system has been having intermittent issues since their last update in November. Try using exact debtor name variations - sometimes searches fail if there's any punctuation differences or extra spaces. Also check if you're searching individual vs organization names correctly.

•Good point about punctuation. We've been searching 'ABC Industries LLC' but maybe should try 'ABC Industries, LLC' with the comma?

•Yes definitely try both versions. DC is notorious for exact match requirements on punctuation and spacing.

I've seen this exact problem! Last month we missed a critical UCC-3 amendment because the search results kept changing. Turns out there was a database sync issue that lasted almost 2 weeks. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and searching from a different browser?

•Just tried Chrome instead of Firefox and got completely different results again. This is really concerning for due diligence purposes.

•You might want to use Certana.ai's document verification tool to cross-check what you're finding. Upload your search results and any UCC documents you have to make sure everything aligns properly. I started using it after getting burned by portal inconsistencies like this.

•Never heard of that but sounds useful. Is it specifically for UCC verification?

•Yeah, you just upload PDFs and it automatically checks debtor names, filing numbers, document consistency across all your UCC filings. Really helpful when portal searches are unreliable.

DC UCC portal is garbage tbh. Been dealing with this for years and it never gets better. Sometimes I call the filing office directly to verify search results when it's a big deal like yours.

•What's the direct number? Might be worth calling for this one.

•202-442-4400 but good luck getting through. They're usually swamped.

Are you searching by debtor name or filing number? I've noticed DC search works better with filing numbers when you have them. Also try searching with just last name if it's an individual debtor.

•It's a corporate debtor so using organization name. We do have some filing numbers from prior searches but even those aren't pulling up consistently.

•That's really weird. Filing number searches should be foolproof. Definitely sounds like a system issue.

•Could be the continuation you mentioned got indexed wrong. I've seen that happen when amendments or continuations get filed with slight debtor name variations.

This happened to me last year with a Texas search. Turns out the original UCC-1 had a tiny typo in the debtor name that made it not show up in standard searches. Maybe check if there are any variations in how the debtor name was filed originally?

•How would I check that if the search results keep changing? Can't tell which filings are real anymore.

•You could try wildcard searches if DC allows them. Use * or % symbols to catch variations.

•Also check incorporation records to see the exact legal name format. Sometimes there are discrepancies between what the business uses day-to-day vs official corporate name.

For a $2.8M deal I'd definitely get professional UCC search done through a title company or service provider. Too much risk relying on portal that's acting up.

•Agreed. We use First American for all our big deals. Costs more but worth it for accuracy.

•Good idea but we're closing in 6 days. Might not have time for third party search at this point.

•Most professional search companies can turn around results in 24-48 hours for rush jobs. Might be worth the premium.

Check if the missing continuation filed under a slightly different debtor name format. Sometimes when law firms file continuations they use the exact format from the original UCC-1 which might have spacing or punctuation differences from current business name.

•That's a good point. The original UCC-1 was filed 3 years ago by different counsel so could definitely have name format differences.

•Try searching with broader terms - just 'ABC Industries' without LLC designation and see what comes up.

•Also double-check that the continuation was actually accepted. Sometimes filings show as submitted but got rejected for technical issues and the rejection notice got missed.

I dealt with this exact situation last month. Turned out the portal was caching old search results and showing stale data. Try adding random characters to your search then removing them to force a fresh query.

•Interesting workaround! Will try that.

•Also try searching at different times of day. I've noticed DC portal performs better early morning or late evening when traffic is lower.

•That Certana tool mentioned earlier might help verify which results are actually accurate. Better than guessing with inconsistent portal results.

Have you confirmed the continuation was filed correctly? I've seen cases where the filing number on the continuation didn't match the original UCC-1 exactly, so it exists but doesn't link properly in searches.

•The continuation was filed by our regular filing service so should be correct, but worth double-checking the filing number matching.

•Even professional services make mistakes. I'd verify the original filing number character by character.

•If you have copies of both the original UCC-1 and continuation, that verification tool could compare them to catch any discrepancies automatically.

Update: Tried the cache clearing trick and got a third set of results! Now showing 6 UCC-1s including the continuation. DC portal is definitely broken right now. Going to call the filing office tomorrow to confirm which results are actually accurate.

•Glad you found the missing filings! Document everything you find in case portal issues continue.

•Six different UCC-1s is a lot for one debtor. Make sure you're checking termination dates and lapse status on all of them.

Ella rollingthunder87
•Good point. Will verify which ones are still active vs terminated/lapsed. This is exactly why I was worried about the inconsistent results.

•For future deals, definitely consider using automated verification tools to avoid this headache. Portal issues seem to be getting more common across multiple states.
